~Emerald Flames~

Post by Illusia »

She stirred from sleep as she heard his breathing next to her, placing a kiss on his lips as she slipped from the emerald silk sheets and his arms, she sat on the edge of the extravagant bed and turned to look back at the sleeping man that had captured her heart. She smiled to herself as she watched him still in sleep, emerald eyes moved over the length of him beneath the sheets, laughing softly to herself as she stood. Her muscles were quite sore as she padded into the bathroom and began a hot steaming bath to soothe her body and attempt to wake her from her sleep. Emerald eyes peeked around the doorway, another smile turning her lips as she watched him for a moment longer before turning back to her bath. She turned the water off as the steam began to fog the mirrors within the bathroom and she slid into the tub, moaning softly as the water touched her tender skin, leaning back she had time to ponder over the events of the last few days, as she closed her eyes and sank deeper into the bath...

She had heard his voice while she was on the Isle talking with Esper that night, the duels had been slow and they had been discussing matters of the upcoming season. She turned towards the lagoon as it's defensive maneuvers began to churn to life...

"Open up, I bring cookies!"

She laughed to herself and shook her head as she sent a thought through the bond of the Isle towards him, letting him know that she was not within the Tower walls but on the Isle herself. The emerald flames flickered to life as she saw him within, his arms wrapped around her body as the last of the flames tickled at her skin. She took lean against his form, smiling to herself. The three of them spoke late into the night and then there was only the two of them after the rings had closed. They sat together and caught up on the time missed between the two of them. She had explained the recent events to him, but to her surprise he had known all of it already and said that was what had awakened him fully the night of her attack. She was confused at how he could have known so much in so little time of his return, but she smiled to him as they sat across from one another sharing tea. She gazed into the very soul of the man before her and she could feel that there was something that he had wanted to tell her for a very long time, but she was not able to pinpoint it as her attentions were shifted as the shadows and auras of the Isle shifted, announcing the arrival of another. Her whole body tensed and the brand on her back began to pulse with what seemed as life...It was him...the assasin and she knew it and Dracos knew as well.

She was overtaken by a moment of fear and could not move, but she forced herself to rise as she saw Dracos moving to protect her. She paused yet again...he would protect her, but why...because he loved her or because their bond of friendship was so strong...It was her fight and she was determined to fight it herself, that was the woman she was as she stepped forward, shattering the shield he had drawn as her dagger flew forward. She could hear the man, but because of her confusion she was not able to let her bond form between the Isle and her so she had thrown the dagger blindy out of rage and paid dearly as she felt the burning sensation of the assassin's dagger slice at her left side. She fell to her knee as darkness consumed her and she faught it weakly as the poison began to flow through her body. Before she passed out from blood loss, weakness and the affects of the poison she was able to toss out a few more daggers, what good they did, she was not sure as she slumped against the sands of the Isle.

He had been able to get an attack off successfully thanks to Illusia and his handywork, and he moved quickly to her side as the assassin growled in pain. "Illusia..." His focus was not on the assassin any longer now that he had vanished but on the woman in his arms. He slid his hand underneath hers and over the wound and sighed softly shaking his head as he examined it. Soft singing parted his lips as warmth coursed through the both of them. coughing he fell back clutching at his left side.

Her eyes fluttered open as she pushed herself up off of the sands..."Dracos?" emerald eyes searched frantically for him, as she looked downwards and saw the blood staining his robes. "Oh Dracos damn ye..." She moved quickly to his side, a quick word as a dagger was palmed in her hand and she sliced his robes on the left side to access the wound, muttering. "I tol' ye tha' was m'fight, nae yers...Ye dinnae 'ave ta risk yer life fer m'. Now look at ye...takin' m'wound...m'scars...Dracos whate'er am I goin' ta do wit' ye? I'd swear after tha show ye put on this eve tha' ye were in love wit' m' an 'idin yer feelin's." All the while she was working at his wound, removing a glowing blue vial from her cloak and pouring the liquid on his wound so that she could work the poison orb from it.

He continued to smile up towards her as she worked at his wound. "Illusia I did so because I care for you a great deal and I would never hide anything from you, let alone my love for you." He pushed himself up with a grunt and let his lips brush against hers and then fell back on the sands grinning.

His words startled her as she finally emerged victorious, though his kiss startled her even more, the poison serpent orb dancing in the palm of her hand as she looked down to him, gazing deeply into his eyes as he spoke, her voice was barely audible as she choked out the words. "Then...am I ta understan' tha' ye are in love wit' m'?"

He nodded his head and smiled.

She let her eyes flutter open as she glanced around, still wanting to make
sure that she hadn't dreamed the last few days to life...and she knew she
hadn't. Fingertips traced over the workmanship of the ivory tub as she
smiled, taking a deep breath and submerging herself within the waters of
her bath. As she sat up, she fell back lauging softly and smiling as she
fell into thought once again...

------------------

"I...I need ta wash tha blood from m'..." She was confused...even startled
at his words. It was all to much to handle and she had to get away. Sliding from his side, she stood moving towards the waters edge and leaned down next to it, to wash away the mingle of her blood and his blood, scrubbing furiously at her skin and clothing. She crouched there for a few moments, gathering her thoughts as she looked out over the waters. She had begun to have feelings of her own for him in some fashion before she left the last time, but he knew that her heart belonged to another. She had made it very clear and so she buried those feelings within her as she had so many other times, and moved on. She shook her head...that other was gone now...she looked down the Isle to where the mark of her first love still bore deep into the heart of the Isle, but could be seen by no one any longer. Only to her, she smiled as she glanced then to the Tower of Fire.

Yes she had let it all go, that was why she had left the last time...to be
able to move on and let her past rest. She then turned and stood looking
to the man that laid on the sands, the man that would have given his last
breath for her tonight so that she might live...the man that had stolen her
heart...the man that loved her. It was time for her to live again, time
for her to be happy again. She smiled, her eyes glittered and danced in
the twilight night as she moved to his side again, helping him to his feet,
she buried her head against his chest...and for the first time in three
winters, Illusia wept...not of sorrow or pain...not of fear or
heartache...but of pure happiness and love.

"Shhh my love, no one will ever hurt you again. I will see to that." He
knew that he could not enter the Tower with her as she was not the Tower's Keeper, she alone was only granted entrance and after tonight, he never wanted to leave her side again. He looked down and gazed into her emerald eyes, smiling. "Stay with me tonight." It was neither a question or a demand, but a request as he smiled down to her. He had lost her once and he planned not to ever lose her again.

She nodded her head into his chest as she moved close to him once again,
shivering slightly as she thought about what had happened tonight. She
herself did not want to stay in the Tower alone tonight in case any other
attack was made and so she was thankful for his offer. Emerald flames
engulfed the pair as they were transported back to his house.

His home, upon first glance, appears nothing more than a tightly grown knot of trees. Only the faintly drawn runes on the third tree to the left of
the center indicate anything unusual. Dracos had opened this tree with a
nearly silent incantation and stepped inside. Up a short flight of stairs
and they were to the true front doors, gigantic wooden double doors with
carvings depicting a myriad of scenes. Of course, when he opened these
doors, ten feet tall and each six feet wide, it was revealed that they took
up the entire southern wall. When they closed behind the two they blended seemlessly and gave no indication that there were doors there. On the left were two wooden doors, one leading to a kitchen, the other to the master bedroom, on the right the two doors were repeated, one leading to a second bedroom and the other now led to Illusia's home. On the north wall was yet again something that took up the entire wall. Gigantic bay windows overlooking the forest. In front of the windows were two large, curving couches and a couple of well padded chairs. In the southwest corner sat the oddest thing...a minibar.

She was at a loss for words, all she could do was just watch
him...blinking in utter awe at the masterpiece he called his home, a deep
intake of breath as emerald eyes saught to keep up with the wonder before her, she smiled as she leaned close to him. "Tis magnificent
Dracos...m'ouse wit'in tha forests could nae e'er compare ta this

He smiled to her, holding her gently close with his right arm, his body was
alive with the sensation of simply holding her, though he felt inherent
magics interacting to cause this tingling feeling. "But it can
compare...by the nine hells, I even have a doorway to it if you ever want
to go back. Come here...I want to show you something." He started to move with her towards the windows. He stopped at the windows and pointed, his left hand actually moving through the glass, the surface rippling like water. "The windows serve for a wonderous view...and an overly large scrying pool."

She watched him, leaning against him smiling as she felt his strength
mingle with hers. She had never felt like this before. She knew that
there was something different this time. Something very different. She
had not even given it a second thought when they had touched on the
Isle...But her touch seemed not to bother him at all, this confused her and
at the same time sent her heart soaring to heights never known before. She turned to him with a smile..."I'll eventually 'ave ta send word back 'ome ta tha twins o' m'where'bouts now, so they dinnae worry o'er m'."

"As for sending word to the twins...touch the windows and think about
them."

She tilted her head at him as she reached tentative fingers towards the
window, watching as it yielded to her touch, laughing softly with utter
delight. She thought about her homelands, the castle and her beloved
twins...Blinking as she could actually see them, she smiled as she sent her
thoughts to them...Thoughts of the events that had occured that night and
that she could now be found here and that she was safe and happy once
again. She saw them smile and hug one another, and Illusia knew then and there that everything was going to be fine...She turned from the window, the image fading out as she smiled up to him, brushing her lips against his. "Tis done."

He smiled, having witnessed her work the magic of the windows with ease,
only one other could do that besides himself. "Good...now let us get you
into bed so that you may rest..."

...A couple of days later...

----------------------------------

He 'slept' as he always had, oblivious to the world around him, but never without conscious thought. He didn't need to do this, but he had to have rest at some time during the day, so now he slept. His mind, usually focusing on the plans for the days to come, was focused backwards on this day, upon what had been transpiring between the recently returned Illusia and himself.

When he had first felt her presence on the Isle, he wasn't sure it was her...the woman who haunted his dreams these past months. Dark green eyes held disbelief when he had first truly seen her, though he knew that she was there. Her touch was ice-cold, but...strangely pleasant. He had to adjust his body's output to not be burned by it, but he still wanted to feel her against him. It was not truly apparent to himself how he felt about her, until that assassin tried to take her life. And at that moment Dracos knew that she was special, important, dear to his heart. After that fight, he willingly took the wound that was slowly killing her and bled for her...just a little, she was so fast.

A smile curled onto his sleeping features at the memory. Then they were in the here and now...his feelings for her growing by the minute, he knew what he had to do, he knew the pull he felt towards her, he had only felt it once before, years ago...but he knew that he loved Illusia Aradia Marcine with all his heart. And he knew too what he had to do. So the next moment, the next instant he could...he confessed his love for her and proposed...perhaps not that swiftly, but the mind was often wont to speed things up to touch upon the important bits. That smile on his sleeping lips grew broader...

-------------------------------

He smiled gently, turning his right hand to tilt her chin upwards, taking her lips in a gentle kiss. "I love you."

Returning the kiss as she smiled, "An I love ye Dracos."
He leaned down to kiss her earlobe before whispering softly, "This is going to be sudden..."

She arched a brow to him, as her heart seemed to skip a beat as she gazed up towards him. "Wha' tis goin' ta be sudden love?"

He lowered himself to his right knee before her, both of his hands taking her left as his dark green eyes gazed up at her.

Blinking, she watched him in wonder as she tilted her head downwards to him. "Aye Dracos, tis somethin' feignin' ye?"

He smiled gently, "No Illusia...everything is right..." He swallowed hard, "Now I have something to ask you..." His voice steadied slightly, "Illusia Aradia Marcine...will you...marry me?" He watched her, quietly, gazing up into her eyes, a smile on his lips though.

She blinked, her knees went weak at the words...she grew dizzy as she swallowed hard, blinking back the tears..."Drac...Dracos...I..." Only one man had ever proposed to her and he had abadoned her when she was taken from Rhydin, she looked away for a moment as she thought. She nodded to him as she looked out the window and swallowing hard, tears sliding down her face as she gazed back down to him. "I twould be 'onored ta be called yer wife Dracos."

He gazed up into her tear filled eyes, a smile on his face. "I love you Illusia..."

Her knees collapsed beneath her as she sank to the ground in front of him, burying her head in his shoulder, crying softly, murmuring in his shoulder. "An I love ye Dracos."
Come on, taste the emerald flames

...A day or so later...

---------------------------

She was soaring higher than any bird could ever fly...Her soul was at peace finally for the first time in many winters passed. The cold that had coursed through her for the past three winters had ceased to exist any longer...and the light and laughter returned to her heart. It was truly amazing how things had happened so quickly. She herself had never thought that it would happen this fast if she were to give her heart once again, and never in her deepest imaginations did she believe that she would be blessed with a man's heart as she was now.

Now he had to face the test that any man would have to face...He had to face her brother...Johnathan Ecorian Havoick, the reigning Overlord and current Keeper of the Tower of Water...She sighed softly, shaking her head with a smile. He was her keeper...her protecter, guide, rolemodel...best friend and confidant. He had been there for her to pick up the pieces when there was no one else...to guide her in her life when their father had left. He had protected her from many things, even herself at times. She smiled to herself. Cory had carried her through her roughest of times and she wondered to herself if he would be upset with her...with all the stress of the challenge and politics going about, he was a rare soul to find and confide in as of late, but she knew what had to be done...they both did and so she bathed and readied herself for the nights events...

--------------------------

...Later that night...

--------------------------

His attention captured again by movement nearby. Greeting Lusia and Dracos with a smile. "Have fun?"

She moved a bit closer to Cory, brushing a sisterly kiss to his cheek. As her lips brushed against his cheek, there was no coldness to counteract, no tingling...just warmth. "Congratulations on a defense well faught this eve, an I am sorry we could nae be 'ere fer tha whole challenge...but now tis done an I've need ta talk ta ye on other matters this eve iffin ye've tha time o' course.

"Thank you," Making himself more accessable.

Nodding. "Yer welcome," said as she stood at Dracos' side looking to him.

"Now what is it you need to speak with me about?" Looking expectantly back and forth between Illusia and Dracos.

He looked to Cory. "There is the matter of your sister that I have come to speak with you about Overlord."

Drawing conclusions on their current body language and what he'd seen recently in the ring. "Yes, which is?"

He straightens slightly, dark green eyes focused on Cory. "I have come to ask you, as her eldest male relative for your blessing." He pauses slightly, then clarifies further, "For the hand of Illusia Marcine in marriage."

She stood at his side and watched Cory, her whole body was tense as she watched him and she literally paled.

"Marriage?" Illusia's turn to bare the look.

She met her brother's gaze, emerald eyes staring straight into his own as she nodded to him.

Illusia and Dracos had their timing down on this, otherwise he might not be as compliant. "I'll extend my blessings."

She blinked, tilting her head, a bit stunned that he gave in so quickly and she smiled to him, but there was still another matter she had to discuss with him as she looked to Dracos, then she knelt in front of Cory, looking up to him as she had always done. "There is one other matter I must ask o' ye brother afore tha night is o'er."

He straightend and looked to Illusia as she knelt by Cory, dark green eyes curious.

"What may that be?"

She took a deep breath as she moved her left hand to lay over his own as she raised her eyes to look into his. "Will ye 'onor m' brother an give m' away on m'weddin' day? There is nae other tha' I wish ta stand by m'side on this day, save ye."

Places a hand on her cheek and flashes a beaming smile. "Of course I will." Taking hold of her left and promting her to stand. Then rejoining their grasp.

Tears filled her eyes as she smiled and stood before him, her fingers entertwining within his.

Dracos watched, silently, dark green eyes taking in the scene before him.

Congratulations you two. Offers Illusia's hand to Dracos. "Keep me informed of what I can do with the planning"

He takes hold of Illusia's hand gently, smiling at Cory warmly. "Thank you..." He looks back to Illusia, his eyes dancing. "There is still that other matter my love..." He leans in close and truly whispers, first an incantation to hold his words for her alone.

She blinked as her knees grew weak and she fell against Cory with the words.

She really was his little sister and it made him tingle with pride. Takes her in his arms.

She fell into his arms, her knees literally buckling beneath her as paled. "An I've jus' been informed there is yet one other matter brother."

"Do you ever stop?"

"Tis nae m'fault." Pouting as she steadied herself in front of him, taking his rather large left hand and placing it just below her navel against her stomach. "I am wit' child...ye are ta be an Uncle...'gain." Smiling, though still quite pale.

He straightend, dark green eyes calculating just how much time he had to displace away before Cory tried to smite him.

None! Smite! Rendered speechless, merely gesturing. Scratches the back of his neck. "I.. I'd like to speak with the both of you very soon. I'm just some time to let all this sink in." Even his speech was all muffed up.

"Aye Johnathan, whene'er ye are ready ye knows 'ow ta fin' m' aye?"

"Uh-hmm, good." Watching the two.

Laughs softly, shaking her head to him, grinning. "Do ye need yer little sister ta escort ye ta yer room er Tower so ye nae lose yer way this eve?"

Grabs the bottle by the neck and turns back to the couple. "No thanks. I find my way around. Got my friend to guide me." Lifting up the bottle.
