All-Time Madness--New Rules!

Post by Cassius Gaius Maximius »

All right...the overwhelming majority of the voters want me to finish up before I embark on the second edition. I've devised some new rules for the new edition, and because these new additions are partly what has roused my interest from it's torpor, I will be "beta-ing" two of the three changes in the remaining rounds of All-Time Madness 1.

1. Changes to the nomination process

There will be some changes to the nomination process, changes that are A: Designed to get new blood involved, and B: Expedite the nomination process. The nomination process will be as it was: Each RoH member can nominate, in a public OOC thread, three characters. I will have the final say on whether or not said characters get in..but in practice, being nominated will most likely mean that they are in. You may not nominate your own characters, no matter how accomplished they are. I know a lot of alts, but I don't know
all of them...so I'm asking you to please be cool and cooperate. The changes...

1A. The four duelists who were divisional champions in All-Time Madness I will be ineligible for All Time Madness II. However, in the event of an All-Time Madness III, they will all receive automatic entry.

This means that Dalamar Ar'Daumon, Siera Redwin, Avery Shiv Blade, and Cassius Maximius are all ineligible. However, they are automatically in All-Time Madness III should it occur.

1B. Every duelist in All-Time Madness I who won in the first round is automatically entered, excepting the divisional champions.

This means that out of 64 duelers, 28 are already in. This is to expedite the nomination stage. Also, frankly, there are some storied duelists who will be nominated constantly, and many of these won in the first round. So, this will also help to force people to use memories and imaginations. In the seeding stage, if a nominated duelist ends up tying points with a duelist who received automatic entry and they are vying for the last slot of a seed, the edge will go to the automatic entry. The automatic entries are: Shakira, Tareth Thorn, Raiyko Hideo, Adeena Maeax, Anubis Karos, Morgan le Fay, Jake Thrash, Cletus Ganderfald, Elijah Basia Uhr, Jesse Troyan, Topaz, Tarl Cabot, Max Quinlan Blue, Damien Mortis, Jeff Oakenshield, Miyamoto Unagi, Jaycynda Ashleana, Kalamere Ar'Din, Xenograg kathu-Darelir, Chris Graziano, Magnus Eques, G'nort Dragoon Talanador, Billy Ray Karnafexx, Baphelocutis est Lathodascia, Gloria Blaze, Athlstan, Karen Wilder, and AJay Bird. Like I said, quite a few names up there who would normally be nominated for something like this every time.

1C. Duelists who lost in the first round of All-Time Madness I and garnered 30 percent of the vote or less in their loss are ineligible for All-Time Madness II. Duelists who lost in the first round but garnered more than 30 percent of the vote in their loss are not given automatic entry, but they may be nominated.

This, along with Rule 1A, is to help allow for new blood. The following duelists are ineligible for All-Time Madness II: In the event of an All-Time Madness III, they can be nominated for that tournament: Rabmallet, Tormay Eludes, Valmion, Janella Vallonia, Farek, Gondar, Sascha Sau Bau, Verceterix Gavin Favre, Harris D'Artanian, Ian MacKenzie, Ulath ni'Fici, Ekth, "E" Smith, Soerl Lute, Goon, Lupton est Dracoern, Percival, Seamus MacDonnaugh, and MadMadMax.

The following duelists lost in the first round but can be renominated: Sartan, Cory Havoick, Rakeesh Sah Tarna, Tasslehofl Momus, Daegarth Mithmellon, Teagan Rielea, Lucian, Nova Gray Shadow, Condextint "Dexter" Montoya, Maria Graziano, Amaltea, Var Medici-Giovanni, Ellisa Morgan, Bran Bale.

2. All-Time Madness duels will from here on in be conducted as a "Best of Three".

Do Not Panic! I will not ask for your votes two or three times! This rule was added because I heard people say on a regular basis about how a certain match was so hard to choose from, and that they almost felt guilty about making a choice. This is designed to help allieviate that by giving some credit to the loser in a close match. It's also designed to help better reflect the closeness--or not-so-closeness--of a matchup.

Here's how it will go. There will be four voting options per match as opposed to the previous two:

Dueler A--two duel win

Dueler B--two duel win

Dueler A--three duel win

Dueler B--three duel win

First, I will tally up the total votes for Dueler A--both two duel and three duel--and compare them to the total votes for Dueler B. That decides the winner. Then, I tally up the total votes for a two duel win for both Dueler A and B, and compare them to the total votes for a three duel win. That will determine the length that this goes in fantasyland. This will not start with All-Time Madness II, but with the remaining matchups for All-Time Madness I. And finally, the one I like the best...

3. There will be a "simulation" accompanying the results of each duel. The simulation will be posted in the following round.

I admit it...this was pretty much inspired by my newfound infatuation with Deadliest Warrior. But I also think it's a neat idea, and given how it will run, may stimulate traffic to the DoS Archives.

"But how can you claim that these duelists will have used these moves?"

Simple...they already have at some point. I will grab a template of round by round results for challenge duels for each duelist...I'm thinking three. These will be spread out throughout the course of said duelist's career(or career-to-date) as much as possible, to grab a feel for development..or possibly decay. I will provide links to the results that are utilized. I will not copy the round by round moves of their opponents in these historical challenges, only their own.

Then, after the votes are in, I will look for results that, when pasted together, would result in a win for the person who won the voting, and paste them together. Like Change no 2, this will begin with the remaining rounds for All-Time Madness I.

Here's a simulation example...take Tormay and Neo..Neo was not in All-Time Madness I but very well could in the second one..Tormay was in the first one, but is ineligible for the second edition. Tormay's moves are on the left, and come from the second fall of his recent challenge win over Aya..the fall that he lost. Neo's results are on the left and come from the first fall of his two-duel challenge loss to Soerl.

TH/HC 1-0 Tormay
FLP/FDk 1 all
LC/HC 2 all
SH/LC, 3-2 Neo
LC/FCP 4-2 Neo
FSS/FLP 4-3 Neo
LC/TH 5-3 Neo

Here, I ended up not using the full moveset from either log, because a duel result concluded beforehand. In the event of a fantasy matchup between Tormay and Neo in which Neo won the vote, I would use something like this for the simulation. If Tormay won, I would look for a different end.

I really like these new rules. I especially like the simulation duel at the end there. That is some pretty cool stuff there!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this all shapes up, looks interesting.

Very cool Cass, I loved reading the blurbs about each character...really drummed up the memories. You had an incredible level of detail, great job! (And yes, I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to give my props all the same :D)
