TdR FAQ

Post by Random McChanse »

This is the thread where I will attempt to answer any OOC questions about the Tour that you all might have to the best of my ability.

If you have a question that you feel needs addressing, feel free to post in this thread and I'll add it to the FAQ. However, I request that you read the rules threads thoroughly before posting here, as several of the following questions are already stated either explicitly or implicitly in the rules.

Q1. Do I have to be on a team in order to participate in the Tour?

A1. Unfortunately, due to the way the Team stages are scored, every duelist has to be a member of a team in order to qualify for certain scoring criterion; so to simplify things and make it fair for everyone we decided to require membership on a team.

If you have no team to register with, no fear: just sign up in the orphan registration thread, and we will add you to one of the registered teams. Think of it as a chance to bond with people you normally wouldn't encounter in everyday dueling. :D

Q2. Do I have to participate in every stage to be competitive for a jersey?

A2. Not at all! Though participating in more stages certainly improves your chances of scoring high enough to hold a jersey, the scoring system is weighted so that duelists seeking particular jerseys only have major incentives to participate in specific stages of the Tour.

For those of us who want to concentrate only on the jersey for a specific discipline (RED/BLUE/GREEN), you only get large numbers of points from the Elimination, Brawl, and Team stages for your specific discipline. While participating in Regular stages for that discipline helps (and is something that you're probably already doing by participating in normal RoH dueling), it won't cause you to fall far behind if you don't participate.

For those seeking the overall jerseys (YELLOW/WHITE), you have a slightly more demanding schedule. Regular and Team stages are pretty much mandatory to stay competitive, so you'll have something to do each week of the Tour. However, Elimination and Brawl stages don't cause large swings in overall rankings even if an overall competitor manages to place high enough to score Tour Points (a considerable feat considering that they have to compete against the specialists going after that discipline's jersey), so they are quite easily skippable. Also, if you think about it, doing roughly two Regular or Team stages each week is equal to participating in at least four duels over an entire week, which isn't that much more demanding than the number of duels the average duelist participates in normal RoH dueling every week.

Q3: How are the number of fancies/feints/spells I have in a particular discipline determined in TdR duels?

A3: The same way they are in normal RoH dueling: according to the standings at the time of the duel. This means that if you go up in rank during the Tour, you can duel in TdR at that rank for as long as you can hold it.

Q4: Are TdR duels counted towards my WoL on the standings?

A4: The duels in the Regular and Team stages are called by official callers during official hours in the official room for that discipline, and no changes are made to the rules in those cases (other than the enforced "honor rule" about using no more than two fancies above your opponent), so yes, those duels count towards your WoL and you can go up/down in rank accordingly.

In the other categories, however, TdR duels do not count towards your WoL due to rule changes and different venues.

Q5. Why am I restricted to only two more fancies than my opponent?

A5. Basically, so higher-level duelists can't abuse the system as effectively by only fighting against low-level opponents and using their built-in advantage to maintain a higher PDPD throughout the Tour. I feel this would be especially prevalent in DoM, where the majority of players currently reside on either the top or the bottom rank of the standings. Therefore, I decided that implementing the "honor rule" in TdR duels would be a far better solution than restricting who in the Tour could duel whom.

Q6. Can I enter multiple characters in the Tour?

A6. Technically, yes, but as you cannot have more than one character participate in a elimination, brawl, or special stage, I wouldn't have two characters trying to go after the same specific-discipline jersey (red/green/blue). They can both go after the yellow or white jerseys, since you are allowed to have multiple chars in regular or team stages (they just can't duel each other).

Q7. Okay, I still don't get regular dueling. What am I supposed to do for that?

A7. What you do is during the three days a regular stage is being run (check the schedule for details) is drop by the RoH room for that sport during official hours, look for duelists that are in the Tour and not on your team (a separate list of participants will be posted after registration ends for easy reference), and duel two of them within that three-day period. All the rest of the work is done by us.
Don't underestimate me, for when I'm working I'm super shiny and sit on a post.

And I walk on ceilings, so try to mess with that, fool.
