The Glass Jubilee Regency Ball

Post by Angelic »

The owners of Whitedown Retreat and Spa are celebrating their first year in business with a garden gala.

Guests are greeted at the entrance to The Solarium with a champagne wall, inset with mirrored mosaics for a final check before venturing further into the gardens.

Reflective strands of mirrored glass have been woven into the greenery, magnifying the low lighting to cast glittering constellations on partygoers. Overhead, chandeliers dripping with flowers and crystals throw soft light onto the garden paths. Lining the walkways and dance floor, larger mirrors give the illusion of inaccessible, secret spaces.

Water features, illuminated by internal sources, provide soft noise to drown out the quiet conversations in secluded nooks.

Fresh fruits dominate the food service table, sharing space with local cheeses and small desserts.

A gelato station provides guests with a tasty way to cool off from the late spring heat.

Hidden away among the foliage, a string quartet plays an assortment of classical and modern songs. Loudest near the dance floor, they can be heard throughout The Solarium grounds.

Music

In the middle of the evening, a fireworks display accompanied by the live musicians provided a distraction for the guests. The show was clearly visible from within The Solarium but quieted by the dome, allowing those inside to enjoy the msuic.

((This thread is for attendance, outfits, and special mentions. The actual ball will be a live event on 05/29/22 at 8 PM ET hosted in #the-solarium. All are welcome. Please join us!))

Quicksilver Catering is providing drink and food tray service for the evening. Servers are dressed crisply, but their uniforms include reflective silver shirts - so glossy, one can see their own face under the right light. Their faces seem to change, however - illusions to change eye or hair color, add or remove features, which do not show up in the many mirrored surfaces at the ball.

Image

Among the water features is a deep pool connecting to the flooded depths of the Underground, with sea glass and shells and natural pearls dangling from the branches above. Water-dwelling servers and guests alike can be found here and in similar features; and among them is a sea elf named Maeral.

While encouraging guests to enjoy the charcuterie provided by land-dwelling servers, he also offers a modest but tasty variety of sushi and sashimi.

Quicksilver has also brought along a flair bartender in the same silvery uniform, a many-armed marilith named Esmerelda:

A talented multitasker, she keeps the drinks flowing whenever the guests need cocktails.

As the host of the Glass Jubilee, Angel leaned heavily into the regency influence and made sure his personal touch was on every detail, from cutlery to decor.

Ever the gentleman, he made sure to make his rounds in the crowd, keeping an eye out for anything amiss. Of course, any time he neared those quiet alcoves, he always discreetly averted his gaze.

Hidden within the folds of his cravat, almost wholly hidden away, there was a silver pin depicting a palette and brush.

Anya was in The Solarium from early afternoon until two hours before the ball, when she disappeared to get dressed. She returned washed, dressed, and fully on theme in time to greet the early guests. Throughout the night, she circulated for conversations and greetings except when she stepped away to lend accompaniment on the harp when the music called for it.

Ettyn was there early to assist with Whitedown's new water-dwelling clients and attendants - water access to the spa was a project she and Angel had been working on for the last month or two.

As Whitedown's other owners were doing, the slayer worked the crowd, talking to important clients and business partners in her confident, down-to-earth way.

She was wearing the necklace Anya had given her for Christmas, as well as the golden feather hairclip she'd given her more recently, and a dark green empire-waisted dress.

Though Cane happily spent the majority of the party behind a beautifully crafted cello, wearing a beautifully tailored suit complete with tails and dress shoes, he was occasionally found gracing the dance floor with anyone and everyone he could steal for a dance--most importantly a rather striking gentleman of the Southern persuasion.

Mac the Knife cuts a sharp figure in a suit, as they stroll into the Jubilee armed with a cane and a Deadman's top hat-- a sprig of clover rides stow away in the band, like a lookout. The suit is not Regency, but it is exquisitely tailored. Ettyn had won the battle about the vest, but Mac maintains a buttons-optional policy for that certain je ne sais quoi.

They follow the notes of clinking glasses to seek out a drink and experience no fewer than three stabs of coat-envy. Not that they would admit it, but Ettyn had been right about reach and lines making a jacket. As a Collector of many things -- secrets, accoutrements, grudges -- the evening is sure to be lively.

Much had gathered on Layla's plate after becoming the Director of the Crossroads Funeral Parlor (formerly the assistant director). She hadn't much time for socializing outside of work but this moment of brevity afforded to her for a night saw her visit for The Glass Jubilee Regency Ball.

She made sure to dance with Ettyn and lingered to chat until, as if knowing she was to be called upon, Layla looked to her smartphone and saw that there was a need for her assistance with newly incoming clients. She offered a smile and a soft kiss to Ettyn's cheek before departing for the evening.

Hearing that her friends were celebrating a year in business inspired Kira to make an appearance at the event. She would be certain to make as much time as she could to mingle and make herself present, especially among those she knew, allowing whim to dictate how late she remained before allowing herself to be called to other business.

Serenity would of course make her presence known to the people at large, for better or for worse, and would arrive in a wonderfully spectacular noblewoman's dress. Blues and silvers across the silky surface with navy blue accents. She looked every part the Silver Raven. She would be here with friends, but would likely mingle some.

The Governor donned a romantic pink ensemble made of floaty, silken fabric that draped curves and curled around her upper arms rather than her shoulders. Accents of diamonds and pearls, and a demure curled updo rounded out the look.

A songbird born in the chill of Winter on the cusp of Spring was in attendance on a whim. Silk underlay as white as snow, lace woven with silver and gold told a story of the love between the sun and moon. She would always keep their secrets.

Rhi and Eregor came out for a while to enjoy the party.

It had been years since Sabine dresses up or attended one of Rhydin’s events. Supporting one of her favorite businesses couldn’t be missed. The theme of the ball hit a little close to home, reminding her of her wedding with her (presumed to be) dearly departed husband. His timeline seemed to align with the regency era. It was a bittersweet night.

Dressing up didn’t seem to come with the same ease it once had but she did manage to find a pretty dress with elements that matched the theme. The spirit of the night was in the details. Her heart-shaped face had thinned as she grew from girl to woman and she was currently sporting a heavy bang with wisps of face framing layers to lessen the sharpness of her angles. The mess of dark hair was piled up on her head, not intricate but not completely undone.
