Summer Settings (June/July)

Post by Ebon Ilnaren »

Biergartens in RhyDin
With the advent of summer and warmer weather Biergartens have popped across the city attached to cozy restaurants, noisy pubs, artisan breweries and your favorite beer hall. These open garden spaces might feature old wooden tables or sleek chrome-top bars, and a stocky dwarf can sit beside a wookiee as they swap stories from their childhood. Awnings and umbrellas provide shade from the sun and shelter from the spring rains while horse carts and hover cabs pick their way through traffic for a beer after work. In a place where time and space converge you can find just about any drink or food your heart desires in the Streets of RhyDin.

Does your business have a Biergarten or a Wirtsgarten? Feel free to post below!

Campsites in the Wilds
Along the lower banks of the Tiamori River and the shores of Little Kaiju Lake, a number of campsites are available for those who wish to spend a weekend--or longer--exploring the untamed region known as the Wilds. Whether you're looking to pitch a tent and rough it, or enjoy cabin living close to nature for a while, there's a campsite for you! Trails lead across the Tiamori into the forests for hiking or hunting, while those with a love of the water can go canoeing, rafting, or even tubing down the river. Explore caves bedecked with wondrous rock formations or go look and listen for signs of bird or beast. Don't go too far from camp, though! Remember that the Wilds earned that name for a reason.

While it wasn't exactly a traditional biergarten, the shops that lined Sullivan Mews in Old Market banded together to add some public seating to their narrow cobblestone street that was already closed to all but foot traffic.

Each morning, the bookseller wheeled out two bookshelves full of used paperbacks, and stacked a pile of cushions and pillows beside them for anyone to get comfortable in the metal chairs and settle in with a book. The florist opened its shutters to a dazzling display of flowers and plants, and made mini bouquets for some of the nearest tables. Sandwiched between them, the art gallery, PUBLIC, kept its door wide open inviting any and all to stop in for a look at its current showing. And its owner, Lucy Mitford, had worked with some local artists to temporarily loan some sculptures for placement among the seating.

Down near the end of the Mews, the cafe was happy to provide anyone with coffee or tea to enjoy with their book, and maybe even a more satisfying bite to eat. As the afternoon approached, on the other end of the row, the wine store opened tasting bottles and growlers, selling wines by the glass and craft brews by the pint, along with some fruit, cheese, and olives that paired well with the drinks.

For the summer, Sullivan Mews had transformed itself into a very nice spot indeed.

Nicole's Bistro opened their garden service at the end of May. For the summer, they served a variety of beers, ales, and spirits imported across from the multiverse. Romulan ale, Turian brandy, and wheat beer from the Outer Rings were among the offerings. Live music happened on weekends with open mic hours for anyone that wanted show off their musical talents.
