25 Years of Magic - Back to School

Post by Claire Gallows »

Tuesday August 4th - 8 PM - 2 AM RET (ET)

As the Umbra School of Magical Arts prepares for its grand opening and inaugural school year, students city wide are feeling the hype for their first day at USoMA and other schools around RhyDin City. To celebrate both the coming year, the new year, and twenty-five years of magic on Twilight Isle, we will be giving visitors a sneak peak tour of the new school as well as a chance to duel in the school's new rings, inspired by the Isle's four Keeper rings; Anemoi, Titan, Poseidon, and Tartarus.

Those that duel in all four rings throughout the night will take home a limited edition memory keeper on a chain. The first two to accomplish this will have scholarships at USoMA named for them (or a loved one if they so choose).

To sweeten the pot and to give the Duel of Magic community a chance to leave a lasting legacy on Twilight Isle, those that accomplish certain achievements will be given first chance naming rights for several of USoMA's features, including the East and West wing towers and libraries, the courtyard, the observatory, and even the school's dueling and sports pitch.

Come out, enjoy some food and drink, blast your friends apart, and support Twilight Isle and the soon to open Umbra School of Magical Arts!

The Rings:

Echo of the Vortex:
The ground of this ring appears to be made of a stiff breeze and wispy clouds that open up to an endless void below. You can’t see precisely where you step but the differing sections offer multiple levels for multi-tiered dueling. Gusts of wind allow combatants to hop from cloud to cloud and makes it feel like one can fly. The dry, heated winds of the west berate the ring and make it hard to catch your breath.

Echo of the Crag:
Mountainous spears of rock pierce the grounds of the ring, fusing and smashing against one another to create a mid-level playing field with pillars of earth climbing to higher platforms. These platforms tilt and tumble, crashing down on the ring with the slightest provocation. Beneath that is a labyrinthine maze made of precarious footing and with a penchant for unexpected rock slides.

Echo of the Deep:
A tidal surge rises around the walls of this ring, creating a solid pillar of oceanic water. Like Poseidon, wild coral reef and pearly white sand gurgles and crashes upwards to form a solid ground level for the ring. Fish and other aquatic beasties swim throughout the ring, oblivious to the magic flying around them. Both combatants in the ring will find themselves miraculously able to breathe beneath the water’s surface. Towels will be on hand for spellslingers once they finish.

Echo of the Inferno:
Blackened, craggy levels make up the uneven ground of this ring. Self-contained fires crop up throughout and also create a barrier around the edge of the ring once both combatants are within. Small rivers of magma circle around the ring and smoldering, jagged rocks create a natural cover and an added dynamic as both spellcasters attack and defend.

With festivities split between the main dueling area and the school in the southwest part of the isle, a portal has been set up for easy travel between the two. Goblin guides are on hand for those that wish to traverse the forest instead, taking visitors along a course of rope suspended wooden walkways that offer a scenic but easy to walk path from the dueling rings to the school. At the school, staff is available to welcome visitors, providing tours of the common areas, the four houses, and the grounds before directing those wishing to duel for the night to the school's sports pitch, a rolling field surrounded on three sides by high reaching spectator stands. Servers at both the school and the main dueling venue pass trays of bite sized finger foods and miniature drinks to keep duelists and spectators alike fed and watered for the entire evening.

((As Claire (and I) won't be there for the full evening, if you fulfill any of the achievements listed on the main event post, please post to the thread with the round by round for the necessary duel. I will double check them tomorrow and make sure we don't miss anyone then contact anyone who earned naming rights or other prizes! ))
