Future updates will be added as replies to this thread so that the Duel of Magic community can be alerted to changes.

Change Log:

7/19/18: Updated to account for challenge change brought on with Loss Forgiveness. Posted Here.

6/20/19: Updated to account for change in Elemental Fury usage. Previous text: The Keepers have an extra spell at their disposal called Elemental Fury. It is incredibly powerful, but may only be used once per duel against other Keepers, and during challenge matches. . Now reads: The Keepers have an extra spell at their disposal called Elemental Fury. It is incredibly powerful, but may only be used once per duel in both regulation and challenge matches. Posted here.

6/20/19: Continued to note that the above change does not apply to Archmages for the same rationale that they are not able to use EF in challenges unless against another Keeper; Archmage already has enough of an advantage with both mage spells. See here.

6/18/2020 Updated two portions of the rules. One under reinstatement which read "There are two ways to be reinstated: send a message to the Standings Keeper requesting it, or it will be done automatically after a retired duelist fights two duels." has been correctly fixed to "There is only one way to be reinstated: Gain an activity duel and be reinstated automatically when the official standings are updated."

The second update was to better clarify the usage of Elemental Fury in regulation matches for the Archmage versus Elemental Keepers to correctly reflect this post: Changes to Keeper EF Rules. The old text read "*Does not apply to the Archmage. Please see The Archmage and the Archmage Tournament for information on why. " and has been updated to "*Does not apply to the Archmage. The Archmage may only use their Elemental Fury against an Elemental Keeper within a regulation match. This reflects the same reason as to why the Archmage may only use their Elemental Fury against a Keeper within the challenge match format.
The winner of the Archmage Tournament will then have a challenge match against the reigning Archmage, with the same rules as all other Keeper challenges. However, the Archmage will not be allowed to use Elemental Fury unless the challenger is another Keeper, in which case both will be able to use it for each duel. The rationale is that the Archmage already has enough of an advantage with both mage spells. The winner will be the Archmage for the next cycle, until the next Archmage Tournament.
7/15/2020: Updated Neophyte portion of the rules to reflect with changes listed here: Duel of Magic Changes: Updates to the Neophyte System & Future Ring of Klytus. While we view the Neophyte update as finalized, the Empowered Ring of Klytus can still be considered in the testing phase for the next couple of cycles. If the RoK changes are viewed as a positive we will update the rules to reflect it in the future.

Old Neophyte rule, bold is what was updated.
When a duelist reaches the rank of Mage, they may seek out a duelist to mentor. This duelist will be known as a Neophyte. They may perform this search any way they wish, be it an unofficial tournament, or an arbitrary selection based on any criteria they want. They can even just pick one out of the blue. A mage may only have one initial Neophyte, but once the Neophyte makes mage rank, this entitles the mentor to take on two Neophytes thereafter. The Neophyte sub-title is functionally identical to the Ring of Klytus, with the following exceptions: their mentor must be present in order to gain the benefit, and the neophyte may not use their mentor focus during a challenge match.

The neophyte focus may stack upon the Ring of Klytus focus, but not beyond the benefit of three focuses. Once a Neophyte becomes a Mage, they are automatically released from their Mage's mentorship. When a duelist is a Neophyte, they are listed on the standings with their mentor listed beside them. The relationship is not official until it is posted on the standings. The relationship can be terminated at any time by mentor or Neophyte.

7/15/2020: Removal of reference to the Arcanist Trials. Red highlight has been removed.
The Ring of Klytus is a powerful magical artifact that is awarded to the duelist with the most exemplary dueling performance of the cycle. Any duelist who begins the cycle below the rank of mage is eligible to earn the Ring of Klytus. Every duelist will be listed with their win ratio on a separate page of the standings (click Cycle Rankings), which is separated into three brackets. The bottom bracket lists duelists with less than four duels. The middle bracket lists duelists with four to seven duels. The top bracket lists duelists with eight or more duels. The bracket placement takes precedence over win ratio; that means a duelist with a 25% win ratio and four duels ranks above a duelist with a 66% win ratio and three duels. The duelist with the highest ranking at the end of the cycle will be awarded the Ring of Klytus, and will hold it until the end of the next cycle when it is awarded again. It may be declined, though, and will thus be offered down through the top bracket until a duelist accepts it. Duelists in the middle bracket and lower bracket are not eligible to accept the Ring of Klytus. Rankings are completed even though losses do not count against the records of those not participating in the Arcanist Trials.

11/13/2020: Re-adding mistakenly removed section under Neophyte.

Fixed lost text from update listed below,

When a duelist reaches the rank of Mage, they may seek out a duelist to mentor. This duelist will be known as a Neophyte. When a duelist is a Neophyte, they are listed on the standings with their mentor listed beside them. The relationship is not official until it is posted on the standings. The relationship can be terminated at any time by mentor or Neophyte.
Now correctly reads as:
When a duelist reaches the rank of Mage, they may seek out a duelist to mentor. This duelist will be known as a Neophyte. They may perform this search any way they wish, be it an unofficial tournament, or an arbitrary selection based on any criteria they want. They can even just pick one out of the blue. The relationship can be terminated at any time by mentor or Neophyte.
Reason: "and the neophyte may not use their mentor focus during a challenge match." had been wrongly deleted by mistake when "their mentor must be present in order to gain the benefit" was removed. We caught the mistake ourselves and thankfully there have been no issues (to our knowledge) where this had come up during challenges.

While a majority of the Duel of Magic Official Rules changelog is clarification and updating to currently in use rulesets, it is still important for the community to look these over. Ring of Klytus testing is also complete and the finalized version is listed further below.

The Twilight Isle description located here will be updated to:
Welcome to Twilight Isle.

Existing wholly within its own pocket dimension, there are many magical ways to reach the Isle. Eternally suspended in twilight, the rays of a setting sun stretch along the skyline with a veil of twinkling constellations and astral phenomenon acting as its backdrop. The eastern quadrant of the isle is dotted with mountainous terrain, though the highest stands in the far east and pierces through the very clouds, while the Dead Scar and its inhospitable land dwells within its shadow to the north and acts as a constant reminder to all of the folly of ill-used magic. Rich forests lie to the west, while to the south on either side of the lagoon, one can rest under the twilight sky in a field of grassy plains.

The rich blues of the lagoon and its soft sands in the south are what you will be met with upon entering the isle through one of its portals. The cheers of spectators, the sight of duelists matching wits and spells within rings that had been carved into the cooling lava during the Isle’s inception, and the crackling of St. Elmo’s Fire dancing among the aged trees that linger nearby. Your senses will tell you: This is an island of magic.

The dueling rings themselves are protected by magical wards, which are kept well cared for by those who watch over the isle and its sport and are unlike those seen in the realm of Rhydin. What they are is very much a mystery, so much so that any attempts to identify or meddle with them will end in failure. What is known is that these special wards prevent any spells from crossing its boundaries, and can heal wounds as duelists fight. After all, these duels are not to the death.

Could it be that you are without magic? There is no need for worry, as the nearby magical implementation rack will suffice. Be it with an enchanted sword in hand, or a more light weight magical wand charged and at the ready with spells, with these your dreams of dueling glory within the sport of magic are at your fingertips. Feel free to keep the item you’ve chosen, if you like. The rack is replenished regularly.

There are many other locales one can visit.. Have you seen the falling cherry blossoms of the Sakura Forest and the Twilight Pavilion? What about the Ragnarok Isle in the north west and its house of learning: The Studium? Perhaps you have heard tales of the wonders and rarities one could buy within the Twilight Market? Or the parties held in the Gloaming District? And much, much more…

Twilight Isle has much and more to offer its visitors. Won’t you join us?

While not all listed on the settings page we do want to offer what can be considered “Common Knowledge” to the in-character public about the mysterious Twilight Isle wards.
  • The Wards were replaced soon after the Ragnarok Incident in 2015 under the orders of then Duel of Magic Head Coordinator Claire Gallows-Farron.
  • The reason for this replacement was due to the unstable change in the flow of magic which caused the pocket dimension to be cut off from Rhydin for a short period of time and the discovery of Ragnarok Isle being the cause.
  • These wards are native to Twilight Isle.
  • The wards heal those who are within them during and after matches.
  • The wards act as a barrier and prevent any spells from crossing its boundaries to protect spectators from the magical combat taking place within the rings.
  • Trying to identify, through magical and/or other means, or attempting to tamper with the wards will end in failure.
