Paths lined with iridescent mushrooms mark the way to the chosen glade, open to the clear night sky and the warm light of two moons and a stream of stars. Upbeat music of harp, flute, and lute call people to dance on the verdant grass while singers’ voices lift up and join them to welcome both revelers and the spring.

Scattered throughout the clearing are several small piles of wood with the largest collection of Oak, Ash, Alder, Elder, and Yew at its heart. It is untouched, unlit. Waiting. Behind it is a small ridge of gnarled roots and stones smoothed with age; follow the moss stairs to the top where a throne for the May Queen sits, a flower crown upon the seat and a steadily burning torch nearby. Once she accepts her crown and chooses her Green Man, the Queen of May will use the endless flame to rekindle the Beltane Fires for the year.

Elsewhere in the glade, two sakura trees grow, their branches entwined in a lush arbor, their petals carpeting the ground where lovers will stand to take their vows. Nearby, tables hang heavily from outstretched tree branches, laden with food and drink (most notably the faerie wine never missing from these events), while others have piles of cushions and low tables beneath them for those who prefer to recline near the light of one of the smaller fires and enjoy the association of friends old and new.

For those going a’maying after the revelry, there are piles of blankets and wicker lanterns to help guide the way through the woods. Beware though, for even within the glade there are faerie rings, circles of mushrooms that can bring fae folk through the thinning Veil to party -- and whisk others away to their side!

The event will be starting at 8:00pm EST with the crowning of the May Queen around 9:00pm. Beltane fashion belongs here!

Mallory began her reign as May Queen in the spring, and ended it with the fire that kept people warm through the long winter. She selected a deep red gown with elements covered in a fine layer of brass befitting elemental fire, and a small crown of brass antlers, with her horns carefully painted the same shade. She wore the Key of Fire in the open, a brass ornament set with a fire opal that flickered and flared like her vibrant green eyes.

May 2nd was her birthday of sorts and thus in her mind, the entire Fires of Beltane celebration was in fact a celebration of her birth. Or formation, since she hadn't technically been born.

Jewell's dress was a tease, the multi-pointed, black scar over her hear visible beneath the sheer materials and real flowers that made up her outfit. Her blue hair was brushed to the side, tousled waves following over her shoulder. She wore no shoes, dancing lightly across the grass in bare feet.

She had been May Queen once many years ago. Now she attended merely as spectator. Having given up on the formalities and niceties of the event she decided to stay with a more natural look. Shunning the fancy designers of Rhy’din and high end fabrics Rekah went with a very modest ahem layer of red clay painted in swirls and lines across her legs, torso and arms. There were a few strategically placed dead, dry oak leaves. Leaving one to wonder how they were being held up in the first place. Two neat little hand prints were on each butt cheek. Nothing too fancy, just there in the same dark red clay.

Her turquoise hair was unfurled and untangled for once. It pretty much was a mess of riotous curls with flowers and seashells haphazardly stuck here and there.

And there was how Rekah would attend Beltane this year...

There was a fire in Bailey's belly -- literally. And so while it wasn't likely he'd stay long at the Beltane celebration, given his discomfort, he would at least be there long enough to see his friend light the flames, and to watch the title of May Queen pass from one friend to another.

Eden has always enjoyed attending the Fires of Beltane but somehow it felt different knowing that she had been chosen as the May Queen! She didn't entirely know what the job entailed, but she at least she was due to finish her dress just in time!

The best thing about a sleeveless dress is how much easier it is to tailor it around her wings!

Image

((Wing image is not exact! While Eden's wings are similarly translucent they are much more intricately veined. Her wings are symmetrical, mirror images on each side of her back. The silver veins stretch out along their curved expanse, creating the translucent panes. The wings are entirely unique---reminiscent of both Tinker Bell-style fairy wings and dragon fly wings. They float gently on the air in their own slow motion, irrespective of her body movements, lining up with the beat of her heart.))

Koyan chose ink and leather as his attire for the evening. Tribal flame tattoos covered his entire torso and arms, swirling across swarthy skin like they belonged there. In the middle of his back, high between his shoulder blades, was a detailed tat of a snarling lion's head. The butter-soft leather pants laced up the front, the waistband entrapped by a thick leather belt. Black boots completed the look. He wore his hair down and wild; there might have been a bead interwoven within the strands, small and difficult to make out from a distance.

Last year Max and her dress glowed. This year, Max may have still glowed, but there was a noticeable shimmering green wave that moved over the fabric of her evening’s gown as though the very material had been woven together from the night sky with the aurora borealis shining brightly in the sky. This took place whenever the young woman was near her Valentine, Alasdair Galloway. They arrived well after dark had settled and the fires had been lit, and could be seen dancing among the fairy lights, offering kind words and bright smiles to most everyone they saw that evening.

Aiden had decided to represent his heritage during the Beltane celebration. The armor, bracers and greaves were made a of a strong, dark leather done in the Grecian style. He wore a blue and white hooded cloak to add a hint of mystery to the look rather than the usual plumed helm. He'd left the bow and arrows at home, but the authentic (and sharp!) xiphos was tucked in a sheath at his hip.

Strange, he was a little more shy, and less likely to come out of the shadows, but now and again, he cheerfully tossed sakura petals and sweet dew over the celebrants. The silk hip cloth was soft and sheer, though he did preserve a bit of modesty with strategically worn velvet.

Mist was there, after all, it was very difficult to disguise the bold glow of golden eyes and the shimmer of his runes. Quiet though he was, he was ever willing to have a dance, a chase through the fire, or a wander away from everyone...

Sapphire was party-hopping this evening, but if she showed up to the main RhyDin event:
