About our Host and Caller Program

Post by Mallory »

Hey, everyone!

RhyDin.org is proud to support a volunteer Host and Caller program, something that has been a part of our community for decades and gone through a number of changes. As our community continues to grow and evolve, we wanted to take this opportunity to go over the roles filled by our Hosts and Callers.

Hosts are community members who show up at scheduled times and foster roleplay, most often by playing bartenders at one of our live play venues or finding a similar role for their character. Hosts create events and activities that foster positive role-play opportunities and drive excitement within our community. Hosts invite and make opportunities for participation; however, it is not the responsibility of a Host to force cooperative play between different characters. Hosts are not moderators, but community facilitators. Hosts can be identified by a dark red color and the “Host” role when they are actively hosting in one of our Discord channels.

Callers are community members who support the dueling-centered roleplay. They are well versed in the dueling format of the sport(s) [DoM, DoF, and DoS] that they are trained to call. They adjudicate and witness formal challenges and report the outcome of those challenges on the forums. Available Callers can also step in if there is a problem with our dueling bot or if an illegal move was made by a dueler. The ability to hand-call a match is an important aspect of our Caller training. Callers sometimes Host in our dueling venues: the Outback, Twilight Isle, the Annex, and the Arena.

Members of our Host and Caller program are trained volunteers, but are distinct from Staff roles. While many of our Staff also fill the role of a Host and/or Caller, Staff have additional responsibilities. You can see a full list of our current Staff here. If you need a moderator, see a violation of our Community Guidelines, or have a complaint, please contact one of our Staff. Hosts and Callers do not handle complaints or have Moderator permissions on Discord, and they will redirect you to a Staff member instead. Our Staff team is identifiable by a green or purple name on our Discord server and have the “Staff” role.

We hope this clarifies the roles of our Hosts and Callers and how they work to build our community. If you have any questions about the Host and Caller Program, or if you would like to become a part of it, please contact our RP Coordinator or one of our Assistant RP Coordinators. Thank you!
