With both PathFinder and the Tower of Earth suddenly vacant at the same time, it seems the Fates (read; the Duel of Magic and Duel of Fists staff) have deemed it a fitting time for a tournament to give both away! That’s right, both the Key to the Tower of Earth and the green rock PathFinder will be up for grabs in a special two week dueling period that ends with a single night tournament on December 18th to determine who walks home with them both.
Here’s how it is going to work:
Starting tomorrow, Friday, December 2nd and running through the end of Duel of Fists regulation on Wednesday, December 14th, interested duelists need to log a minimum of one duel in each of the two disciplines to qualify. Since the Terra Master Tournament will be restricted to eight entrants, you can increase your chance of entry by logging more duels throughout that two week period. Outside of the one duel requirement in both sports, you can pick your poison while you work on racking up your ranking amongst your peers. When morning breaks on the 15th, the top eight ranked duelists will be invited to the final double elimination tournament on Sunday, December 18th.
To top it off, all ranks are invited to enter. The only exclusions are if you already have a title in both Duel of Fists and Duel of Magic. Sorry Best Chae, you’ll have to sit this one out. Everyone else is welcome though! If you have a title in one of the sports, you can only take home 1 of the 2 offered while the remaining one will pass to the next eligible finisher.
Fun stuff, right? I know.
On the night of the tournament, eight of you will get together to see who takes ‘em home. To commemorate the night, we have a very special format for the evening’s matches. Rather than fight in Fists or Magic separately, we want to test your skills in both and as such, will be using an alternating round pattern to squeeze both sports into a single duel. How’s that look? Great question. The pattern’s starting sport will be picked by the top seeded duelist in each duel and after that will increasingly alternate the number of rounds for each.
Example:
Versus number 8 seed Matt Simon, number 1 seed Claire Farron picks Duel of Magic to start (because why wouldn’t she). The format will then be:
R1: DoM R2: DoF R3: DoM
R4: DoM R5: DoF
R6: DoF R7: DoM
R8: DoM
R9: DoM R10: DoF
R11: DoF
R12: DoF
And so on and so forth until a winner is declared. To make it interesting, everyone will be fighting at approximately the same level. It’s shaping up to be quite the night. So get out, get your duels, and see if you have what it takes to become a Terra Master!
Sign up below if you intend to try your hand, that way we know who to look out for each night.
[[OOC Info:
Those wishing to enter the tournament need at minimum 1 DoM and 1 DoF fight logged between 12/2 and 12/14. Seeding will be determined by ERS style rankings.
The tournament on the 18th will likely be at 9 PM ET. A definitive time will go up with an event post here within the next week.
Everyone in the final tournament will fight with 5 mods per duel. The 5 mods can be distributed between either discipline.
DoF Advs will be automatically scored as .5 points and will not be carried over for conversions (though that doesn’t mean you can’t nickel your way through the DoF portion!).
All ranks are invited to enter however just a few things of note:
-If the Tower of Earth is won by a duelist ranked below Sorcerer, no grace period is offered unless a rank of Sorcerer or higher is obtained.
-If PathFinder is awarded to a duelist ranked below Emerald, a set amount of time will likely be given in order to rank up to Emerald to fulfill the 15 WoL minimum required by DoF rules. That amount of time is being decided and will be announced prior to tournament invites going out on the 15th.
If possible, please sign up prior to logging your duels just for the ease of tracking. That said, we’d like to encourage as many people as possible to enter so if you decide after the fact that you would like to enter, sign up anyways and shoot me a PM to DUEL Claire.
Any other questions, feel free to ask!]]
Edit 12/3: To avoid conflicting with the Winterfest Ball on the 17th on RDI, we've bumped the final tournament night to the 18th.
