Des stops by the board after her shift on the Caller's couch to see if there are any new notes. Her eyes get wide and she takes out her pen to leave a note of her own because this one she would not keep quiet about. Not in a millon years. Besides she had a message from It to Vanion to be delivered and this was as good a time as any to pass it on.

Karen is gonna wipe the floor with you and then she is gonna stomp on you and then she is gonna hang you out to dry and then she is gonna laugh at you and most of all she is gonna keep her ring!

You couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag if it was soaking wet! I don't care how many peer wins you have to post they ain't gonna do you a bit of good once ya get in that ring and have to face Karen.

Oh and I do have a message for you from someone that calls themselves Mask. "The Slayer has returned." Message delivered. I'm guessing that your days are numbered nadorhuan!

Well, I suppose it be time tae answer this...

Th' Baron o' Seaside will defend th' Ring. It'll be a Best o' Three contest, 'o course.

I recommend th' 3rd or th' 10th o' September fer th' match.

In stead o' me usual Borrowed Blade fer this Challenge, I shall be bringin' Th' Sword o' Saint Michael. Ye escaped yer righteous taste o' steel by hidin' behind yer lackeys afor... but now ye've come forward an' there's nae place tae hide.

Pray thet yer pet Devil holds ye taegether, Vanion... 'cause I mean tae take ye apart.

Fourth Overlord of the Duel of Swords

It was my duty and privilege to officiate last night's Baronial Challenge for Seaside. The challenger, Vanion Knightwood-Shadowcast, dueled without a Second and claimed his opponent, Baroness Karen Wilder, as his Lady of Honor. The Baroness declined the honor. She dueled without Second or Declaration of Favor. Their banners, red-upon-black versus red-upon-white, stood in fitting contrast.

The bad blood between these combatants was evident in their panoply: both wore full-length mail armor and wielded war swords. Vanion's affectation was an iron battle mask; and Karen's was to wield the Sword of St. Michael, a relic of her Order.

The Baroness chose a Best-of-Three format, stating that a single duel proves nothing.

DUEL ONE:
Karen drew first blood and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Despite their differences, the two duelists were of quite a similar mind -- mirroring in five of the next seven rounds. This was to Vanion's advantage as the exchange put the score at 4-4. The Baroness held off his comeback, though, with a full-point defensive winner in Round 11.

DUEL TWO:
Both duelists opened cautiously. Vanion's first attack was then parried, but Karen missed the opportunity to riposte. She did not look back to it and never needed to, dominating this duel by scoring five full points in the next five rounds. Vanion's only score came in a trade of blows in Round 5 on the way to his 5.5-1 loss in 7 rounds. This single cut bore serious consequences, however, as Vanion used an envenomed dagger.

The Baroness's strength began to fail before she left the ring. Before it did, Karen publicly petitioned the Overlord for Loyalty status. The Overlord granted the petition, and she shall be listed as Loyal in the next Standings -- should she live.
