Key players involved in the Casa de Sangre storyline consist of a variety of individuals from all sorts of differing backgrounds and cultures. They do not all live in a single place. There is no group compound where they all take up residence together. However, there are quite a few central settings that are relatively more or less communal.

We the writers have done our best to compile a comprehensive single resource here in this thread to detail to you the various locations that may be hinted at or mentioned in the stories we share. Many of these locations have limited access. Some are apartments. Some are homes. Some are places of business. Some are superbly warded strongholds that not just anyone can trespass upon. We ask that you do not use these settings without the permission of the creators.

Who created a setting? In most cases that will be obvious by the name attached to the posting. Be courteous. Never assume that just because we're sharing with you it means that you are at liberty to do with our settings and characters as you please. Ask first and avoid furious outrage later.

Matadero Meat Company

The Grounds of Matadero

Located a short walk outside the Rhydin City limits, through the East Gate at 100 Rose Mill Point, the main facility for the Matadero Meat Company was built on the foundations of what was once a flour mill. The decrepit building and its surrounding desolate acreage was purchased by Salvador Delahada in June of 2014. Renovations began immediately. Within weeks, an upper level apartment was completed. Throughout the rest of the renovation process, the owner lived on the premises and continues to reside there to this day.



The entire property of Matadero is enclosed by a combination stone and iron wall, the former material of the construction being the tallest section and too high for the average man (or woman) to see over. Those sensitive to arcane energies will notice right away that the whole of the grounds is surrounded in a protective metaphysical barrier. In addition to being a home and base of operations for Salvador Delahada and his business, the facility and its grounds, even miles underground, are his specifically keyed and warded fae domain. Nothing can enter without his express permission, granted by a ritual including physical touch from his person. The grounds are also warded against scrying and other divination techniques.

Daring trespassers will quickly discover that the Grounds of Matadero are reactively hostile. A variety of carnivorous plants decorate the landscape, and are cared for within the building itself. Even the well kept lawn consists of a rare, magical strain of vampiric grass that will suck the life force out of anyone who is not welcome on the property. Puppeteer creeper vines that use skeletons and corpses as animated weapons grow on the interior side of the surrounding walls, and on the trellises beneath the upper level apartment spare rooms' windows. Those are only a few of the many murderous types of flora that may be encountered, not to mention the other beasts.

A stone pathway wide enough for commercial vehicles leads from the main gates to the facility proper. This road serves as a neutral buffer zone to any unexpected visitors, as well as the main thoroughfare for slaughterhouse personnel. Stray from the path at your own risk. A security camera is in place at the main gate, with a buzzer, however. Unannounced guests would be wise to make use of it.

The facility itself is additionally electronically secured. Access points into and within the building are locked and can only be opened by specifically made keys (both metal and card varieties). Employees of the facility are given their very own personal identification badges that allow them access only to their particular areas of expertise. The second level apartment above the facility is inaccessible to all slaughterhouse personnel. Only the owner and those granted access with the gift of an actual door key can open the east side door leading into the south hall and the stairs that ascend to the apartment itself. That same key will open the front door of the residence.

Perhaps the most remarkable contribution to the entire layout of Salvador's domain is the rooftop garden. This section of the building can only be accessed by way of the spiral staircase at the end of the hall leading to the guest rooms in his apartment. Even should any creature be able to break through the magical wards and gain access to the property by way of the roof, trespassers beware that amongst the more harmless edible plant life also are strategically placed any number of carnivorous monstrosities similar to those found at ground level. The second-most dangerous of these being the enormous cape sundew blocking the top of the stairs within the central greenhouse.

Pig Country

To the east of the main facility and within the grounds is a shorter partition wall that separates the business grounds from the greater expanses of Pig Country. This area consists of several dozen acres of land devoted to the care and raising of Matadero's specialty free range* pigs. Mamorel Fiedlerson, a young half-elf eccentric, is charged with the task of maintaining this entire section of the company's operations. She lives in a cottage on the property in this area.

Cattle Country

South of the main facility, tucked within a pocket folded between the realms of Rhydin and those of Faerie, stretches an expanse of twilight acres devoted to the care and raising of Matadero's specialty free range cattle. A clan of goblins, with the aid of incredibly intelligent and eerily silent cu sidhe, are tasked the with maintaining and protection of this entire section of the company's operations. These creatures are fiercely loyal to Salvador, and will attack trespassers without question the moment they are sensed on the property.




Groundskeepers

In addition to the carnivorous plant life, all the flora of Matadero is tended to by a roaming dryad who is completely loyal to Salvador as part of a boon granted for rescuing her from unfavorable circumstances once upon a time. She is the queen of his board, and aptly named as Dama. Under her service is a forest giant named Torre who doubles as her mate and is likewise loyal to Salvador for her sake. Additionally serving under her are the bishops, an Auloniad and Naiad gifted to him by his lover Skid, named Pradera and Charca respectively. They are all fiercely protective of the property and will kill anyone they do not recognize, or who they have not been notified is permitted, on sight.




Other denizens of Salvador's domain include a crocodile named Gallo, an undead raised roadkill hybrid creature that resembles an owl and a penguin combined (among other things) named Snubs, and a cybernetic undead cat by the name of Dead Cat. These creatures mostly reside in the winding maze of tunnels beneath the main facility and apartment, and can sometimes be found roaming the basement.

Salvador's Apartment

Above the main facility of the Matadero Meat Company's slaughter and packaging facility, Salvador Delahada has made his home. A main entryway opens from a flight of colorfully bejeweled stairs into a spacious living area with a high vaulted ceiling. Immediately noticeable are the floor to ceiling windows on the east wall to the right, letting in an abundance of natural daylight during appropriate hours. A polished black concert grand piano is tucked into the corner of the southeast wall beside a white u-shaped leather couch. A coffee table nestled within the U has a uniquely designed chess board consisting of slots and skeleton keys.



To the left of the main entry door hangs a collection of circus silks and workout equipment, including a weight bench. Further along is an open archway leading into a wrap around hall that contains a spacious bathroom with a sunken floor tub large enough for several people to stretch out in. This hall also leads to the guest bedrooms. The north bedroom remains reserved for Rekah Illyriana, but the south bedroom has (since the creation of the image above) been given over to Nila Kapur. A spiral staircase at the end of the hall leads up to the rooftop central greenhouse and expansive gardens beyond.

Directly ahead from the main entryway one can see a catwalk overhead that stretches into the west wall archway all the way to the east floor to ceiling windows. This catwalk stretches along those windows as well, creating a T at its cross section that ends at the south wall but opens into the master bedroom above along the north. An L flight of stairs is tucked into the northwest corner against the exterior wall of a walk in pantry that also contains laundry machinery. The L stairs lead up to the master bedroom, positioned directly over the kitchen, which includes a half wall on the south side to allow anyone above to look down into the living area below.

The kitchen tucked into the pocket beneath the master bedroom on the north side of the apartment contains all of the latest state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances. A clean gas cook top is positioned against the north wall with the sink in the center island, with plenty of additional space for seating with breakfast bar stools. The counter tops are a pristine polished white marble, which compliments the sterile clean decor of the rest of the apartment.

Despite the half wall of the master bedroom above and the stretch of windows on the east wall, a sense of privacy is still achieved. Those looking up from below are unlikely to see anyone who is not directly leaning against the half wall or pressed against the glass. An enormous king sized platform bed is positioned against those windows, seen directly ahead at the top of the stairs. To the left is an open archway leading down a short hall that has on the right a walk in closet. This short hall continues along into an open bathroom that contains only a glass walled open shower large enough for several people stand in. Apparently, Salvador has something against doors in his living space, with the exception of those on the guest bathroom and bedrooms below.

And finally, the Roof. Atop the entire facility is a massive rooftop garden that is accessible from the spiral staircase at the end of the hall in the private apartment that opens into the large central greenhouse. An enormous, semi-sentient, carnivorous cape sundew resides here. There are also four smaller greenhouses in each corner of the rooftop complex, all of which are connected by overhead catwalks that circle the building. These gardens contain a variety of flora, many of which are edible and accessible all year round. A small lawn is tucked away with wooden Adirondack lounge chairs, a fire pit, and a hammock not too far down a path from the central greenhouse, as well.

The Old Pub

Welcome to La Maison du Drhys, home of Rhydin’s favorite celebrity power couple!

Once upon a time, this elegant domicile was a dusty, old pub, remembered only when former Rhydin governor, Sheridan Driscol, needed a hideaway to escape his adoring fans. Now it has been transformed by the master luthier—with help from his committed life partner, Rhys Germain—into a stylish townhome situated in the Dragon’s Gate district.


From the front, a low wall separates a small stone patio from the cobblestone street and the attached garage. This patio is adorned with potted plants and a bench, and leads directly to a lovely ivory door set into the structure’s tan stone façade. An abundance of wisteria frames the entryway and windows during the flowering months. These fragrant flowers also line the walls surrounding the rear of the property, and can be found drooping over the arch of the locked back doorway.

The main door opens into a cozy sitting room and parlor done up in summery shades of ivory and gold. The focal point of this room is the elegant baby grand piano angled into its front corner. A love seat, a pair of armchairs, and a Paris chaise lounge, all upholstered in warm neutral tones, provide comfortable seating for guests to sit and listen to the maestro of the house play.


Beyond the piano is a mantled, inset fireplace. This fireplace is original to the home and is one of many pieces of its heritage the couple have decided to preserve. More nods to the building’s history can be found in the refinished hardwoods and restored fixtures. Reclaimed woods and metalworks have also been reincarnated into artwork, made especially to be showcased upon the home’s walls. These fresh pieces combine the couple’s love for all things musical and mechanical, the old and the new, much like the rest of the house, and exist alongside sleek touches of technology, such as the Bluetooth speakers tucked into the corners of most of the home’s rooms, capable of filling the entire house with music at the push of a button, and variable track lighting that can be dialed back to set the appropriate mood for parties, performances, and more.

The ground floor of the home has an open layout, which hides little from the eye. Opposite the parlor is the staircase that leads up to the second level, which is largely off-limits to guests. At the rear of the house are the dining room and kitchen, separated by a tidy breakfast peninsula. Tall windows provide natural light for these rooms during the morning and afternoon hours, as does the sliding glass door, which opens onto another small stone patio, which in turn, serves as a gateway to the back garden.

The garden is larger, deeper, and lusher than is natural for the urban landscape. From the rear alleyway, it appears as small as those of neighboring properties, its parameters defined by high, brick walls over which treetops can be seen, but to enter through the locked backdoor, or via the patio, is to enter an expansive space filled with wonder and flora rarely seen removed from the countryside. With magic, Dris and Rhys have transformed the little yard into a verdant sanctuary filled with winding paths, tall trees, and flowering bushes. Iron archways, stone walls, and wooden pergolas are covered with climbing roses, ivy, and wisteria. The couple have hung paper lanterns and fairy lights from these structures, as well as the limbs of some of the trees, to provide a cozy atmosphere for the seating areas placed within the space.

The second level of the home is generally off-limits to guests, as this is where the master bedroom is located, along with the couple’s shared creative sanctuary. Tucked into the furthest corner of the master bedroom is a sprawling king-size bed, large enough to share with their Irish wolfhound and growing menagerie of pets. An enormous master bath connects to this room, tucked away for the couple’s convenience. A set of French doors opens onto a small balcony that overlooks the gardens below; this little space is beset by outdoor chairs and more potted plants.

What was once a guest bedroom has been transformed into a shared office space and studio, decorated in blues and neutrals. Like the rest of their home, this room showcases a blend of the couple's passions and talents. Large windows overlooking the front patio and street let in plenty of natural light during the day for both Dris and Rhys to work by. On one side of the room sits an electric piano and a small writing desk, standing ready for when Dris' muse strikes. Smaller stringed instruments hang upon the wall within arm's reach for whenever he feels moved to play them.

The other side of the room is populated by a sleek work bench and bookshelves that house volumes covering just about everything from engine repair to theoretical physics. Also dotting these shelves are numerous small, technological projects Rhys works on in his spare time. In addition to a neatly-kept collection of tools and components, the work bench is home to a top-of-the-line computer system and a docking station that connects to the speakers in the house.

Two doors—one at the top of the stairs and one beneath them—open into the attached garage. Above it, the couple have constructed a private den for themselves to unwind in together late in the evenings. A sleeper sofa and a big screen wall-mounted television make up the focal points of this comfortable sanctuary. A collection of vintage vinyl and a state-of-the-art record player have a home here, too, as well as shelves filled with books of select fiction and poetry.

Throughout the house and gardens one might glimpse strategically placed nesting boxes worked into the decor as well as perches designed specifically for the use of their mechanical owl golem named Pelia. Roosting places can be found in the gardens for the small murder of crows that have adopted Dris as their person of honor. There are at least six of them lurking around at any given time going by the names of Handel, Schubert, Bach, Chopin, Wagner, and Liszt. Two of them are well known to be exceptionally vulgar, and often pick fights with a pair of chatty and opinionated peafowl by the names of Martha and Beatrice who have wandered their way into the gardens and made a permanent home there as well. The luckiest of visitors may also encounter their recently adopted foxmoth named Frankie.

Whatever the occasion, visitors to this house will find themselves warmly welcomed by the men and creatures who live there. Friends are always invited to sit a while and join them in filling its halls with laughter and song. But enemies beware! For the whole of the Old Pub's property is heavily warded to protect the privacy and security of those who call it home.

The Village of Eastgate

The Village of Eastgate


The Village of Eastgate resides, as its name implies, a short walk through the east gate of the Old Temple District just outside the jurisdiction of the Rhy'Din City limits. This independent municipality is located north of the looming shadow of the Matadero Meat Company’s main facility and some short distance south of the river.

For many years, the Village of Eastgate was an anarchistic slum populated by the destitute. After its completion in the summer of 2014, the Matadero Meat Company brought new business to the region and the City of Rhy'Din. As it thrived people began to gather and settle in these forgotten and decrepit slums.


Many of the inhabitants of the Village of Eastgate are outcasts and refugees from neighboring kingdoms, and other inhospitable regions, who have trickled in over time. Though many of the residents are employed by the Matadero Meat Company, other smaller businesses have cropped up creating thriving centers of commerce. Over time, the community developed its own government and now flourishes under the protection of its resident fae lord, Salvador Delahada.

The Village of Eastgate is governed by a portly elf by the name of Roydark Iethi, who can often be found in the Throne Room known as ⁠city hall, where sometimes it is rumored the Autumn King himself may be in attendance. A dragonkin by the name of Constable Monsheax helps Mayor Iethi and his lord keep the peace, and can often be seen roaming the dirty streets.

Visitors to the Village more frequently congregate at the local watering hole, a ⁠tavern named The Shouting Gopher, which is owned and operated by a pair of sibling goblins who go by the names of Alan and Steve. Those in search of a more quiet establishment need look no further than Eastgate's lending ⁠library, the Quietus Athenaeum, run by a stern old goblin by the name of Troitzela Shoss.


Outdoor public functions can often be attended at Shanty Town Stadium, home of Dragon League's third-place finishers the Eastgate Echidnas. The ⁠stadium also doubles as a training center for 2022 IFL Championship team Deathcake and three-time Round Robin Cup Championship team LuvBonez. For smaller gatherings, citizens of Eastgate are known to congregate in the village square, known also as the ⁠stockyard, located directly adjacent to Trash Heap Park; don't let its name fool you.
