The Lost Cauldron

Post by Lorelai Sullivan »

In the mists of those uncertain hours between midnight and dawn, something is happening. Soft little groans and creaks, a flickering of eerie lights in whatever spaces it can find.

Seaside
Old Market
Dockside
Old Temple
Dragons Gate
Twilight Market
Duskside

All over the city in abandoned storefronts, shelves are filled, displays created, tags priced and placed - in the blink of an eye there is something where there wasn’t before.

Lost Cauldron: Oddities and Curiosities

The sign is simple enough, echoing the chipped and flaking lettering on the window. It looks like the kind of little shop that’s always been there, aging along with the rest of the city. In the corner of the window is a hand lettered neon purple sign with Spooky Season Sale! Gifts! Decor! (No costumes or candy)

Inside, dusty shelves hold bits and baubles. Skeletal garlands. Skull jars. Hollow, handled pumpkins. Candles in the shape of witches hats. Behind the counter, a bored brunette peeks up from her book, one brow arching with a nod of acknowledgement and welcome. A page turns, blue eyes following you over the sweeping paper.

“Everything in here is charmed…somehow.” Her tone is idle, bordering on disinterested. “ A little extra trick or treat vibe - the dancing cards over there-” one finger flicking toward a display of playing cards, with a handful floating and swirling through the air above it “just need music…the pumpkins in the corner are bigger on the inside, but if you’re looking for the ones with baby dragons, we’re out.” Her eyes drop back to the page, chin in hand. “Just bring your stuff up when you’re ready.”

((OOC Notes: No matter what neighborhood your character uses to enter the shop, everything inside looks exactly the same, and the girl behind the counter will not recognize them if they’ve visited before.
Items available for purchase tend to be fun and frivolous rather than serious and intense (like the examples above). Feel free to create your own, but please keep them in that spirit!
As Halloween begins (on the stroke of midnight on the 31st) items purchased will shift from treat to trick - for example, playing cards might go from dancing to dive-bombing anyone in the area, skull jars might start chomping anything in reach, etc. These effects are temporary, and will dissipate as soon as Halloween is over.
The Lost Cauldron will disappear in the same moment that the items shift, anyone looking to find one of the locations on or after midnight Halloween will find no trace of the shop, no matter what mental, physical or magical skills they possess. Feel free to post your characters' experiences with their purchases, and their effects - both before and after the change, in the thread below!))
