June 2024 Archmage Tournament

Post by Claire Gallows »

The June Archmage Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 8:00pm Eastern! The format will (likely) be double elimination (depending on entrants), and late entrants have no more than 5 minutes to arrive. Seeding will begin at 8:05pm, and casting will begin at 8:10pm.

Seeding will be based on the most recent RoK rankings. Early registration will cut off on Friday, June 14th at 8:55pm ET. Any late registrants or walk-ins will automatically be ranked below early registrants. Registrants tied with the same ranking will be seeded by WoL.

Second place will also take home an additional prize in the form of the Keeper's Blessing.

Keeper's Blessing

1. Allows the wielder of this grant the ability to use a special one time use Elemental Fury crystal within a challenge against a Keeper. This crystal will allow its wielder the use of Elemental Fury up to three times within a challenge (should the challenge go to 3 full duels). The power of the Elemental Fury Crystal can only be used once per match. The Keeper's Blessing is available for use until the next Archmage Tournament.

- or -

2. Allows the wielder to submit the Blessing to the Duel of Magic staff to be redeemed for a Challenge Grant that can be awarded to any non-Sorcerer duelist of their choice. This grant will allow its wielder to challenge one of the four elemental keeper titles so long as the keeper is not under a grace period. This grant must be used within 14 days.

All participants will receive a Bonfire Ring to take home. This ring allows the wearer to summon a bonfire sized flame, perfect for summer beach parties and fall evenings. Only one bonfire can be summoned at a time and if a new one is made, the old one will disappear.

Please post your registrations as replies to this thread. Good luck everyone!

(( Should 2nd place go to a current Elemental Keeper, they can only select the second option to give the grant away, and cannot select the EF crystal since they're already a Keeper.

This is a reminder that we do have a 5 minute casting limit each round in order to try and keep the tourney from running too late. In the case anyone needs more than 5 minutes for an urgent/special circumstance, please alert the caller, opponent, and the room so that they know you need a few minutes and will return asap. Thanks! ))

Out of a field of three who all came out of this Round Robin tournament with 1-1 records, Dris held a half-point edge on the points-differential tiebreak to win the June 2024 AMT!

Congratulations to Dris! Haru leaves the night with the Keeper's Blessing; Dris, Haru and Rhiannon all walked away with Bonfire rings.

Attention Duel of Magic Management and Fans!

Her Magnificence, the Archmage, Rachael Blackthorne, had a nice little sit-down with little old me, and we have agreed to meet on the Isle within the full fury of Olympus on the evening of Wednesday, June 26th, at 9:00 in the evening by the toll of the Rhydin Clock. The extraordinarily sweet Eden Parker has agreed to oversee this challenge for us.

Looking forward to entertaining you,

♡ ̆̈ Sheridan "Dris" Driscol

Attention, Duel of Magic Management and Fans!

Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the challenge match for the Key to the Citadel of the Stars that was scheduled to take place tonight between myself and Archmage Rachael Blackthorne must be postponed. Details pending.

Apologies for the last-minute notice. Stay tuned!

Attention Duel of Magic Management and Fans!

After a short deliberation, the Archmage and I have agreed to reschedule our challenge to the evening of Wednesday, July the 3rd at 9:00 PM. The extraordinarily effervescent Eden Parker has agreed to still oversee this challenge for us. Rest assured that the scrumptious buffet will be available as planned.

This Archmage challenge happened and it was worth the wait! What a doozy!

Our challenger for the title of Archmage was Sheridan "Dris" Driscol who came to the challenge as the victor of the Archmage tournament! Dris was looking for his first chance to take residence in the Citadel of Stars.

Seeking to defend the title was the keyholder herself, Rachael Blackthorne, who was attempting her first defense of the title since gaining it in April! Rachael opted to fight in the Archmage's special realm, Ring Olympus!

In the first fight, the Archmage opened the challenge strong, scoring three unanswered points before Dris found his footing and got on the board in a trade. By the fifth round, Rachael already achieved match point, and surely everyone in the audience at this point was starting to wonder if this was going to be a blow out. But we were quickly proven wrong, as four subsequent rounds went to Dris as he smoked, snowed, and swirled his coat to bring the fight to SUDDEN DEATH! Two more sudden death rounds saw our fighters going cast for cast, until finally, in Round 12, Rachael emerged victorious through a starlight mist!

FINAL: Rachael Blackthorne def. BardGallant, 7.5 - 6 in 12 rounds.

Riding her success in the first fight, Rachael began the second with much the same confidence she had in the first, scoring two unanswered points in quick succession. But Dris knew how to get her now, and he was much more quickly on the board in the second fight, tying things up by the fourth round. It was a neck-and-neck fight as these two heavyweight casters traded blows and points. But it was Dris who finally edged ahead and into match point, his glittering coat casting an illusion of invisibility in the starlight of Olympus. Rachael readied her response, hands in motion, but before she could draw forth her power, Dris released a scream that filled the Isle with an unnerving sense of doom. Time seemed to stand still for a breath. When all cleared, Dris had taken the win in the second fight.

FINAL: BardGallant def. Rachael Blackthorne, 5 - 3.5 in 8 rounds.

The third and final fight between these two powerhouses opened exactly as one would expect -- with a trade of mighty magic! Directing a murder of crows at his bidding, Dris captured the first lead with the distracting cacophony. Rachael knew just how to respond, as the sky over Olympus filled with visions of dancing kittens -- adorable! Dris kept hold of the lead, nonetheless, but Rachael was quick with the answer, keeping the scored tied at three through the fifth round! Rachael then surged ahead, commanding the power of the stars to positively fill Olympus with a wall of starlight -- and the powerful display brought her to match point! Dris sought refuge in the protection of his impressive coat, hoping to keep the Archmage's key in reach. But it was Rachael who brought in victory with a blasting of chunks of starlight!

FINAL: Rachael Blackthorne def. BardGallant, 5 - 3 in 7 rounds.

What an incredibly close challenge! Well-tried, Dris! And congratulations Rachael, Archmage, on your defense of the title! May you continue to reign in starlight.
