Rhys arrived on the opening night of the challenge (7/1) with his partner, Dris.

Rhys let out a devious, little chuckle as Dris danced in place, and just to tease him, he made a circular gesture with one finger, grinning the whole while. Then offered that glass of
Sunset Punch, he took it and clinked it against the bard’s. He had one sip, though, before he set it aside. But there was a good reason for this: he needed to finish off his cigarette.

Rhys started chugging his drink as he watched [Pelia] flutter away. He was a little slower than the bard, though, and was left laughing while Dris started his march. “He’s a mad lad tonight,” he called teasingly in the man’s wake. Once he was finished with his
Sunset Punch, he bent to remove his shoes and gather up Dris’. He stowed both pairs into an ethereal pocket for safekeeping as he set off to join him.

Rhys reached the first stage’s platform just a few moments after Dris did, splashing as he went. He watched Dris’ progress across the suspension bridge as he climbed up to the platform to await his turn. “Don’t slip! That looks awfully slick!” He practically sang the tease, punctuating the words slip and slick just to see if he could unnerve the man. But Dris was a little too agile for that!
With a snorted and a fond grin, he shook his head and started across the plank himself. “I’m coming, I’m coming.” He loped easily from board to board without trouble, steady on his feet. For now.

One of Rhys’ hands found its way to Dris’ waist once he reached him, giving a gentle squeeze as he leaned into the cheek kiss. “On to the next,” he agreed. He followed along to the next platform, hand lingering upon the bard’s spine as they studied the spinning rings. “Ogre heads,” he echoed, choking a little on a laugh.
He lingered there at the start of this stage, watching as Dris wobbled and pinwheeled his way across the platform. This time, he didn’t tease or try to unnerve him. Not after that swat from the first ring. “It looks it.” Tricky, indeed.
Only once Dris had gotten to the other side did Rhys start across, himself. He clearly misjudged the timing however, and when the first hoop spun into him, it caught on his t-shirt. He tried to get free, but the machine’s constant rotation was stronger and knocked him off balance—”Oh, shit!”—sending him splashing into the drink.
He spat out water he surfaced again. “Well,” he called up to Dris, “I guess I’ll see you at the end, love.” And with that, he swam back toward the first platform.
FAILURE!

When Rhys reached the first platform, he quickly but carefully climbed the ladder and took his place at the start of the suspension bridge. This time, he was a little more careful as he went from board to board, since he was wet. But he had little trouble with it on this second pass.
He exhaled hard and went on to the next platform, squeezing water out of his shirt as he went.

Rhys paused at the start of the second stage, glancing ahead of him to gauge Dris’ progress. The sea wind brought the bard’s words back to him and he huffed out another chuckle. “Damn right, baby! You tell it!”
He did not linger to watch Dris try to cross the tilting tables, instead choosing to focus upon the spinning rings before him. “You’re not gonna beat me this time.” He repeated the words more softly now, telling the course itself. Then he set off.
The narrow path was slick underfoot, thanks to the water he’d splashed up there earlier, as well as the water lingering on his skin. But he leaned into it and used that slickness, turning his body and twisting to skim past ring after ring after ring. When he reached the other side without falling back into the water, he let out a shout of triumph. He let out a second shout when the wind again brought Dris’ words to him and he realized the bard had reached the top of the tower. “Hell yeah!”

Despite the rush of relief he felt at completing the second stage, Rhys didn’t linger there for very long. He eyed the tilting tables with some trepidation as he approached them, silently wishing he had taken the time to watch Dris go across this stage. “Magic would be cheating,” he reminded himself as he took up position and began.
No doubt, the water clinging to his skin and clothing made this stage all the more challenging, but he managed to climb and swivel and otherwise make his way through without slipping and falling. Like his partner had been, he was breathless by the time he was past the tables and onto the tower, but he didn’t stop. He found his first handhold and started up.
He went slowly, making sure his wet hands and feet were secure upon each ledge and nook he found, and hauled himself up bit by bit. And in the end, it paid off. Though he wobbled here and almost lost his grip a time or two, he never slipped, and eventually, he reached the top. There, he threw himself forward onto the platform and rolled over to get a knee under him. “Fuck, that was tough.” He let out a laugh, feeling a rush as it truly registered that he’d made it.
