April 2023 Archmage Tournament

The April Archmage Tournament will be held on Sunday, April 2nd at 8:00pm Eastern! The format will (likely) be double elimination (depending on entrants), and late entrants have no more than 5 minutes to arrive. Seeding will begin at 8:05pm, and casting will begin at 8:10pm.

Seeding will be based on the most recent RoK rankings. Early registration will cut off on Friday, March 31 at 8:55pm ET. Any late registrants or walk-ins will automatically be ranked below early registrants. Registrants tied with the same ranking will be seeded by WoL.

(( This is a reminder that we do have a 5 minute casting limit each round in order to try and keep the tourney from running too late. In the case anyone needs more than 5 minutes for an urgent/special circumstance, please alert the caller, opponent, and the room so that they know you need a few minutes and will return asap. Thanks! ))

Second place will also take home an additional prize in the form of the Keeper's Blessing.

Peeper's Blessing

1. Allows the wielder of this grant the ability to use a special one time use Elemental Fury crystal within a challenge against a Keeper. This crystal will allow its wielder the use of Elemental Fury up to three times within a challenge (should the challenge go to 3 full duels). The power of the Elemental Fury Crystal can only be used once per match. The Keeper's Blessing is available for use until the next Archmage Tournament.

2. Allows the wielder to submit the Blessing to the Duel of Magic staff to be redeemed for a Challenge Grant that can be awarded to any non-Sorcerer duelist of their choice. This grant will allow its wielder to challenge one of the four elemental keeper titles so long as the keeper is not under a grace period. This grant must be used within 14 days.

(( Should 2nd place go to a current Elemental Keeper, they can only select the second option to give the grant away, and cannot select the EF crystal since they're already a keeper. ))

Hey friends! Karma with DoM here. I'll be running the show Sunday night, so expect lots of fun and at least one wonderful outfit. Aside from that, I rescued this clutch of what I think are Twilight dragon eggs after the parents disappeared. Only problem... I don't have the space for these little things, so I plan to let the Fates tell me who to give them to on Sunday before, during, and after the Archmage Tournament. Oh wait, second problem... they got mixed in with some other Easter eggs I had left over from last year's Easter event... so I guess we're going to give it all away! Whether you're participating or merely spectating, come out and have a good time. You may go home with a prize or maybe even a dragon egg of your own!

I'm calling it the Hunt for the Twilight Clutch.

We had 9 entrants tonight for the April 2023 Archmage Tournament. In a double elimination format, we went all the way to a Super Final between Mairead Harker and Rachael Blackthorne. When all was said and done, Mairead won the right to challenge the Archmage and Rachael walked away with the Peeper's Blessing.

Gatito and I will be meeting in the ring on Friday, 14 April, at 10:30 PM by the eastern clock to duel for the key to the Celestial Tower. The Lady Max Lager will be officiating for us.

With help from his companion, Salvador Delahada, Archmage Gatito Lindo has prepared a family-style feast for his challenge with his prima, Maggie Harker, showcasing Moroccan and Greek flavors.

melty fried kasseri cheese doused in brandy and set aflame

slow-simmered stew with eggplant, apricots, chickpeas, aromatics, and ras el hanout

Shrimp Saganaki
shrimp baked in spicy tomato sauce and topped with toasted feta cheese





Beef Kefta
flavored with onion, parsley, coriander, ras el hanout, and cayenne pepper
served with flatbread and herbed yogurt sauce

Spanokopita
buttery phyllo pastry stuffed with spinach, onion, feta cheese, ricotta, and herbs





Moroccan Couscous
flavored with onion, almonds, raisins, parsley, and cinnamon

Greek Lemon Potatoes
roasted and flavored with lemon juice, garlic, and oregano





Moroccan Carrot Salad
raw carrot, scallions, dates, and raisins, tossed in a dressing flavored with
citrus juice, pomegranate molasses, and rose harissa

Greek Salad
raw cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, bell peppers, kalamata olives, and feta cheese
dressed in olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, and sea salt





Citrus M’hanncha
buttery phyllo pastry stuffed with a sweet paste made from almonds, pistachios, dates, lemon,
blood orange, and cinnamon, soaked with orange blossom-flavored honey syrup,
and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and crushed nuts

Pasta Sokolatina
moist chocolate cate soaked in coffee-flavored syrup, topped with a layer of rich Bavarian
chocolate cream, and then covered in chocolate ganache and finished
with chocolate whipped cream rosettes

crème de cassis topped up with champagne
garnished with a lemon twist

Sparks of Summer
fresh dragon fruit, lime juice, pitaya powder, and honey topped up with lime sparkling water
garnished with a lime wedge and fresh mint

All chocolate items are made with Celestial Chocolate, a variety of chocolate that is safe for individuals who are allergic or otherwise sensitive to regular chocolate. And all items made with nuts are clearly labeled, so those who are allergic can make choices appropriate for their health.

Tonight I had the pleasure to witness Archmage Gatito and Archmage Tournament winner Mairead come together to see who would stay or settle into the Celestial Citadel for the cycle overseeing Twilight Isle! The pair joined hands prior to entering the ring and Olympus was called forth for this best of three event. They both rocketed out of the gate (figuratively) with a beautiful trade of glistening snow showers and glitter, delighting spectators (and themselves) as the challenge began. As Mairead disappeared into a single star, by round three she reappeared as her and Gatito called for a reversal of the first round with the score coming to 3.5 to 2.5 with Mairead in the lead. With the help of a Winter Court’s shield, she deflected Archmage Gatito’s cold mist and soon sealed her victory in the 5th round with a final score of 5 to 2.5. The second match started out cautiously on both caster’s parts before Mairead was scattering more glitter into the ring and soon followed up with another point as she distracted Gatito being in toddler form with a polar bear. Rawring to disperse the Archmage’s control of the winds, Mairead soon held the score of 3.5 to 0 in round 4. But Gatito would not be shut out, and instead a trade of spells, nearly blinding them both. The Archmage’s grace is second to none in the rings however, and with the score at 4.5 to 2 in round 6 it looked as though they were mounting a comeback. It would be when Mairead blanketed the ring with the scent of winter roses that her victory could be announced, taking the second match with a final score of 5.5 to 2 in 7 and becoming the newest Archmage!

Congratulations Mairead and well reigned Mage Emeritus Gatito!
