Midsommar - A Citywide Celebration

On the morning of June 24th, an assortment of celebratory festival implements popped up around the city to celebrate the Summer Solstice and Midsommar (or Midsummer). With assistance from the Governor’s Office and an assortment of private citizens and both private and public entities, festivities span the entire city, hopefully offering a bit of joy and revelry to any and all that wish to partake.

Golden Perch Inn - The Gnome sisters loved a reason to celebrate and had spent all morning transforming The Golden Perch into something that looked like it belonged in one of Shakespeare's plays. The tables had been moved into a square like shape, outlining a perfect dance floor for guests to enjoy. Hanging above each table was a jar, secured by a ribbon, that had different colored glow bugs happily munching on flowers and grass. Their lights blinking off and on helped with the ambiance. Don't as them how they did it, but just to the right of the door, when one walked in, was a cherry blossom tree who's branches swept across the entire ceiling and dipped just above those glowing jars so that the pink and white blossoms could be illuminated. The scent, warmed by the lights, was sweet and fragrant. The menu offered festive meals such as apple roasted pork with steamed vegetables, strawberry pecan salad with buttered croissants, and several different mixed cocktails and mocktails.

The Marketplace - A gathering of food trucks have invaded the market. Offering everything from tacos and sandwiches to more exotic cuisines at great prices, there’s something for everyone.

Books & Brews - Books and Brews was not a shop that would simply allow the festivities to go on without its support. The door was propped open so all could see the festive decorations inside. Hanging lanterns were strung up from wall to wall, casting a lovely rainbow color of light down upon the tables set against the wall lined with an array of pastries and festive drinks. The chairs and all the reading nooks had been covered with brightly covered throws and matching pillows to bring out even more of that color. Lively music played upon the speakers and it drifted out of the open door to draw attention to the sign placed in front of it that read. Come join in on the festivities. All books are buy one get one free and if you buy four you receive a free drink of choice from the cafe!

The Solarium - Hammocks and swings have been set up at varying intervals to give festival goers and Solarium visitors alike a place to lounge and nap if needed. Temporary lockers are available to store your belongings so you can nap in peace!

Battlefield Park - Foam sword and nerf gun battles rage across the district mixed with the raucous laughter of those striking and being struck. Bring your own foam weapon or borrow one from any of the half dozen conveniently located stands.

Red Dragon Inn - The Red Dragon Inn was not left untouched by all the celebrations going on and so it seemed someone had come in to make the place ready. Twinkling lights were strung across each beam that ran the length of the room, falling like glowing rain drops to cast a magical look to a place already filled with so many years of magic. The fire in the hearth, allowed to burn much lower, helped those little lights cast small reflections over each surface they touched. Streamers ran the opposite direction of those lights, coming to a point in the middle of the room to give the ceiling a tent like feel. Each table was covered in a table cloth of different colors and flowers, in arrangements, were placed upon a mirror set in the middle. The bar was not left alone either as it also boasted a pretty set of lights that ran the entire length and each chair back had a colored covering. From the speakers played soft, instrumental music that seemed to change depending on the mood of the room.

Arena - All purchases from the bar and Wolves Den Bistro are covered for the weekend. Be sure to tip your bartenders though, they deserve it for all their hard work! Midsommar Masks are being given away at the gift shop as well!

Arcade - As with the Arena above, all Arcade food and drink purchases are covered and a massive pile of free tickets was left with a little sign encouraging those passing by to take a few or leave a few.

Courtyard - The water of the Courtyard’s fountain has been enchanted for the day, spilling twinkling purples and blues from the dragon’s mouth. Drop a coin into the fountain’s depths and make a wish for the coming summer!

Outback - As with the other venues, drink purchases at the Outback are covered for the weekend. Additionally, someone mischievous has tied multicolored (and biodegradable) streamers to the Fern, strung twinkle lights above the Pond, and thrown glow sticks into the Pit.

Streets of Rhydin - Take to the streets for a Midsommar spectacular. Throughout the city, booths, vendors, food trucks, and more are on hand to help relieve celebrants of their coin in trade for food, drink, and merchandise galore. A street feast in Four Points (Old Temple), is free and open to the public, offering food and fellowship with your neighbors. When the sun goes down, masked mischief makers run the streets with candles and torches, lighting their way into summer and beyond as they celebrate the solstice, singing and dancing all the way.

The Underground - Thumping bass announces the not so clandestine rave taking place in the underground. Full of heavy music, neon paint, and plenty of blacklight, come for the music but stay for the mess.

The Docks - In the harbor, two ships trade volleys of paint bombs, painting one another in vibrant rainbow splatters. Further into the district, Tranquility ballroom has opened its doors to the public, offering free food and drink for visitors beneath a serene glow and fresh blooms.

Uptown - Free coffee and lemonade and a cool place to beat the heat! Visit Uptown’s boutique coffee shops as they take to the street with their own twist on roadside lemonade stands. When you’re done, drop by the New Haven Baronial Manor for a dip in the pool, now open to the public thanks to Baron Salvador Delahada!

Seaside Beach - Crawfish boil and bonfire party at Seaside beach! Enjoy cozy bonfires, great surf, and seafood boils on the beach from sun up until after sundown.

Twilight Isle - The tables near the dueling venue have been stocked with lanterns that can be written upon with marker before being sent up to the twilight sky. Honor a loved one, make a wish, or write something silly, there is no correct message to send to the heavens.

Twilight Market - Join the Midsommar parade as it winds down the wide corridor of Astra Avenue. Sing, dance, or just watch, and be sure to visit the assortment of shops that offer discounted wares through the weekend!

Gloaming District - The beach rental shop is offering half price rentals and the other shops in the Gloaming District will offer heavy discounts on their wares. All cabana rentals are free through the weekend, just be mindful about how long you reserve them for. Share the love! Toward the end of the day Friday, a fireworks show will light up the sky from 9pm-10pm.

Kaiju Lake - The docks at Lake Kaiju had also been affected by the theme that seemed to be sweeping over the city. Tables were set up all along the lake. Some intimate with settings for just two and others larger for more to gather. Draped in pearlescent cloth and decorated with vines and sticks, it was a more earthy tone to the scene. Above each table, hanging from a larger branch of the trees they were set up by were assorted jars and bowls with floating candles. Some lit, some still waiting to be lit. Revelers would find notes on each table with blank paper and pens. The notes held the instructions. Make a wish or send a blessing. Write it down and set it on fire for its ashes to be carried off in the wind. Each piece of paper would transform into a small bird of fire once the paper was set to the candle flame. Allowing the bird to carry the message off to their loved ones or beyond.

Harper’s Hearth - All food and drinks have been paid for through the weekend and an ample stock of game jerky and meats packaged to-go are available for sale.

The Deep Wilds - Gear up for the Wilds’ greatest game of paintball hide and seek ever. Secured ziplines, climbing towers, and treehouses have been constructed to support the game and you can join Team Red, Team Blue, or come in with a team of your own! The objective? Make sure everyone leaves covered in more paint than you!

Tiamori River - River float dance party! Beginning after lunch, the Tiamori River will host an assortment of floats including tubes, rafts, other inflatables, and a large barge where you can get your groove on or sit and have a drink beneath the summer sun. Let the river carry you all the way down to the Adia Estate’s Riverfront Summer Fair!

Crystal Chasm - Both rims of the chasm have been set up with stations for bungee jumping. After your jump, grab a copy of the video or some souvenir crystal shards to remember the occasion.
