Lady Revanche's Society Papers

Post by Lady Revanche »

According to the much heralded
poet Lord Byron: “Of all bitches,
dead or alive, a scribbling woman
is the most canine.”

If that should be true, then this
author
would like to show you her
teeth…

My name is Lady Revanche. You
do not know me, and you never
shall. But if you are currently
reading these papers of record,
then rest assured: I certainly
know you…

But unlike the fictional gossip
monger from which I draw my
inspiration, I seek not to tell you
of eligible debutantes in our midst
but rather to share with you the
latest and greatest in
Rhydinian high society news.

We start first with the never ending
party known as the Gloaming District
and its Dukes twain, Sheridan Driscol
and Rhys Germain.The two have
become a mainstay at Society events
ever dressed to the nines in oft
coordinated attire. I’m certain some of
their popularity lies in the perpetual
adorability they exude together but
no small portion of it is, as well, their
penchant for and execution of
parties and brunches galore at
#11 Twilight Lagoon Avenue.
The most recent, a brunch bash
to follow the Governor’s Beltane
kickoff, carried the party atmosphere
well into the next day.

Beltane serves, as always, as the start
of the Rhydinian social season as well as
the largest event of the year. Kabuki Street’s
own Yuzuki Kuwabara (or is it Ito now?) was
named May Queen by a most mysterious
magic crystal obelisk in a chasm made of
much the same. Just the sort of thing we
have come to expect from the Powers That
Be. It is said that the celebration in the Kabuki
Street neighborhood is still carrying on
two weeks later.

Speaking of May Queens, Lady Revanche’s
little birdies told us all about last year’s
Queen, Alexia Longbow who was spotted draped over
the shoulders of newcomer Athrun. Could
Double A be double trouble? Is Danlexia no
more? Or are they simply open to new
experiences within their relationship? We
suppose that time will tell, now won’t it.

In more light-hearted, but still rather
scandal laden news, Minister of Public Works
(and devoted tea fanatic), Kira Adia, was spotted
by an anonymous source consuming, gasp,
coffee of all things. Has her current partner,
coffee shop owner Mira Burke, corrupted the
good Lady of House Adia? Beware the coffee
devout, dear reader, for they are tireless
in their attempts to corrupt the pure.

Less pure, however, is mainstay bartendress,
slayer, and local business owner, Anya de la
Rose
. Known for her haphazard spell slinging
both in and out of the dueling rings, de la Rose
is fast becoming known for her haphazard
handling of Rhydinian hearts! Without speaking of
the fools that came before, Anya has positively
ruined (and divorced) Slayer Extraordinaire
Ettyn de la Rose (or perhaps Gedda again?).
It is said that Anya has been holding court with
many a suitor, including (but certainly not limited
to) the Outback’s latest proprietor, Nero Zhir,
as well as her very own business partner,
Angel.

While Anya busies herself breaking hearts,
I think we have little to worry about when it
comes to how ex-wife Ettyn will recover.
Already, my sources say that the Slayer is
entertaining suitors, including the Governor
herself, Karma Armstrong, who gifted Ettyn
a rather magnificent blade on what would
have been Ettyn and Anya’s first anniversary.
Bear in mind that it was Governor Armstrong
along with business partner Jaycy Ashleana
who plotted the de la Roses’ nuptials on
Twilight Isle. Has the Governor simply been
biding her time, pining until the rough and
tumble Ettyn was freed from marital bonds?
Is that why we have yet to see an Armstrong-
Feren
wedding? After all, the latter pair has
hardly been seen out and about in the past
months. Trouble in paradise, maybe, maybe!
Perhaps we will even see some of that
prime Gloaming District real estate put on
the market due to splits and rejoinders.
Keep an eye out, I have the feeling this is
a situation to watch as we progress further
into the social season.

Last on our docket this morning is a persistent
and growing rumor that a new contender for
The Event of the Season is in the works.
Catering and decor companies are abuzz,
clothing designers have kicked production
into overdrive and it sounds like Regency
is the theme to watch for! We recommend
securing your attire, transportation, and
escort (not that kind, you libertines) early to
ensure you needn’t be left with rags of any
sort for your night.

That wraps our first issue of Lady Revanche’s
Society Papers. As we manage an increasing
load of social events and society watching,
updates from here will be dependent upon the
goings-on of the city’s denizens. But our ears are
always listening and our eyes are always
watching. Stay sharp, reader, and enjoy your
tea.

Lady Revanche, signing off.

Re: Lady Revanche's Society Papers

Post by Lady Revanche »

Dear reader, if there is a scandal,
I shall uncover it. Good day and
welcome to another issue of
Lady Revanche’s Society Papers,
the premiere provider of
high society news within the social
circuits of Rhy’Din and beyond.

Much has happened since our last
correspondence, far too much in
fact. This fact resulted in quite the
pile of tips and rumors to sift through
in order to find the very cream of the
crop to pass on to you, dear reader.

Let us start first with the opening social
event of the season; the previously
(and exclusively) reported upon
Regency Ball. At said festivities, one of
the owners caught the singular eye of
an old familiar face. Machete-wielder
and collector-about town,
Rohin MacKurn, didn’t need Stitch’s
prompting to drag Whitedown proprietor
and slayer savant, Ettyn de la Rose,
out onto the dance floor for the first
dance of the night, and only reluctantly
did they let her go to meet-and-greet
clients.

But alas! This was no one-sided infatuation
a la Governor Armstrong’s unrequited gifts to
the slayeress. No, rather “Mac” as MacKurn is
called by those close to the Collector, escorted
Ettyn to the bar on their arm, where they picked
out drinks that made them think of each other.
How very darling! Will this be a romance to watch?
Time will tell! At the end of the night, they were
heard asking the slayer to skip out early for some
clandestine one-on-one time.

Surely it is no coincidence that Ettyn discreetly
left her own event rather abruptly after a near-midnight
message on her phone. We, dear readers, think not!

But take care, slayer. Rumor has it the Collector too
slays. Their quarry? Hearts! In more ways than one!

There was no small amount of noteworthy exchanges
at the jubilee, but few intrigued us as greatly as the
meaningful glances and lingering touches shared
by Canaan Devillier and the aforementioned
Stitch. They make quite the trio when you include
Ettyn’s Whitedown co-conspirator, Angel, who
is said to frequent the Cajun’s house while his
long-time beau is surely otherwise engaged.

Is our Canaan-Stitch-Angel ensemble a scandal
in the making or will they prevail as an emerging
polycule? Hard to say, especially when you consider
Angel’s dalliances with fellow
Victim of the Harlot Anya de la Rose, Nero Zhir,
with whom Angel has been sending spending quite
a bit of time. Are they plotting revenge or are they
healing their broken hearts with the support of
one another?

Keep an eye out. We all want to know.

Speaking of Anya, it sounds as though her
antics know no bounds. When she isn’t breaking
the hearts of Rhydin’s most eligible bachelors
and bachelorettes (and her own wife), it
sounds as though she is dabbling in a bit of
possession with intent to distribute.
Though this writer puts little stock in the
competency of the local Watch force, they should
perhaps consider looking into just where the slayer
ventured off to with Stitch in the Underground.
A trusted source tells us the dastardly duo were
seen disappearing down a side tunnel most
frequented by cads and miscreants, and most
importantly, drug dealers. Though she was not
with Stitch when it occurred, it is said that Anya
was seen purchasing no small amount of
potent substances, some of which can be
reduced for far more nefarious uses.

Perhaps it is Anya who is seeking revenge. Should
this writer be watching their back? Oh, no, dear
reader, we never shy away from conflict.

Amongst other high society rumors, we
hear that perpetual trouble magnet, Jackson,
has found himself in a precarious position wholly
unrelated to his profession or his penchant for
running his mouth to the wrong figures! It is said
that when confronted with the sheer roguish
good looks of one of Rhydin’s finest firefighting
sorts, he promptly turned pink in the eyes and
passed out cold. The firefighters all got quite
the chuckle out of this, prompting the question
of whether their professional duties can be met
properly if their amusement wins out over
the needs of those requiring emergency medical
assistance. Perhaps we must add the RCFD
to the list of taxpayer money sinks akin to the
Watch. Thankfully, Lady Revanche does not
make public policy. We simply report on it.

In other reports, Endless Nights proprietor
Mira Burke was seen out for a romantic walk
with newcomer Serenity Silverhand. Not two
days later, Kira Adia, her wife, was seen getting
close with the same Serenity Silverhand at the
Glass Jubilee gala. Could the new ring on Kira’s
finger be a sign of new developments? Will the
scales tip in favor of one or the other? And who is
the near identical woman gallivanting around
town under the moniker Tranquility? Just
a coincidence? A sister, a daughter of the time-slipped
variety? Or a maligned doppelganger seeking to steal
what relations Serenity has cultivated since her
arrival in Rhydin? Be wary, good reader, for hearts
and identities are fragile things.

Beyond that, in better tidings, we have the upcoming
Tanabata festival, held in the Kabuki Street
Neighborhood. With a parade and fireworks, it is sure
to be a lovely celebration of the legend of Orihime and
Hikoboshi. Be sure to get your yukata well ahead of time,
as foot traffic in the 9-block Kabuki neighborhood
is expected to be much, much higher than usual.
It would not do to end up with the unfortunate leftovers
at the bottom of the bargain bin. You will be quickly
overshadowed by any other noteworthy events that
occur at the celebration and we simply can’t have
that, can we?

Though there was still much to say about the
goings on in the city, we will graciously leave the
remainder to the other publishing houses so that
they too might have something upon which to
report.

Until next time, our ears are always listening
and our eyes are always watching.
Stay sharp, reader, and enjoy your tea.

Lady Revanche, signing off.
