Challenge for the Tower of Fire

I have not yet held the Tower of Fire. I would like the chance to match spells with you and try for the Key.

I hope we don't burn down any actual barns!

A thick white sheet of parchment was tacked to the corkboard with a black and gold pushpin. The message that it contained was written in an exceptionally precise left-handed script in black ink. A seal in black and gold wax with the impression in the wax of a panther head was at the bottom of the parchment.

Maggie,

I welcome our chance to test our mutual skills in the discipline of sorcellerie for the custodianship of the Tower of Fire. Tartarus is a fine place to do so.

To those who might be concerned, there will not be any actual barns harmed in the upcoming challenge.

I hereby officially accept this challenge for the custodianship of the Tower of Fire.

After consultation with Maggie, the challenge for the custodianship of the Tower of Fire will take place on Wednesday, March 9th at 9:30PM by the Eastern clock tower. The honourable Caller known as Dris will preside over the challenge.

Friends, family, and spectators of all varieties! It was my honor and privilege tonight to be chosen to officiate this match between Keeper of Fire Rachael Blackthorne and her challenger Maggie Harker. We saw fireworks aplenty inside the heart of Tartarus in a standard best of three format. If you weren’t there to see it for yourselves, trust me when I say that the instant replays are only half as good.

In the first match of the night, our duelists started off cautious. They traded off half point leads in the first couple of rounds. By the fifth, Rachael took the full point lead and never looked back. She continued to steadily climb the lead ladder by half increments almost the entire way to the ninth and final round where she secured her first win at a score of 5 to 3.

The second match started off strong in Maggie’s favor. She immediately landed a full point in the first round, and picked away at a higher lead in the consecutive two after. By the fourth, however Rachael started nibbling away at that lead, bit by bit, until they landed at a tie of twos in round six. In the next they bumped up to threes, but by the eighth round Rachael stole back the lead. She gave no quarter and unleashed the fury of fire on Maggie in the ninth and final round, to secure another victory at a final score of again 5 to 3.

Tonight’s lucky lotto numbers are very clearly 7, 9, 5 and 3. If you’re not betting on them, you should be!

Well tried on that challenge, Maggie! Congratulations on your seventh defense, Rachael!
