This story folder was created to serve as a sort of melting pot for the various stories we write about in and around Rhy'Din. As we have quite a varied cast of characters, we decided to borrow this idea and post it here in order to give more insight into those characters and their backgrounds.

Strengths: Loyal to a fault, she will do most anything to protect those she loves, though she is much more careful now than she has been in the past.
Weaknesses: Sometimes reckless in her attempts to protect loved ones, putting herself at risk.
Eccentricities: Requires occasional solitude and will sometimes go off on her own in order to get it, but always comes back. Avoids horses, as they tend to be skittish around her. Is somewhat secretive about her past, even where her own mate is concerned.

Skills: Familiar with high and low tech, as well as some basic magic and healing. Knows how to utilize the Nexus to travel through time.
Special Abilities: She is able to heal most wounds, though doing so drains her. She can move silently, blend with the shadows, and see in the dark. She can open locks, track prey, sense silver, and communicate telepathically with those to whom she can establish a link. Her primary special ability, though, is the ability to shape-change at will into a variety of feline forms, including that of a tiger and weretiger. (RhyDin's moons have little effect on this ability, one way or the other.)

IC Background: Marissa was adopted and raised by Fox and Kirin Mulder after her parents were killed in an explosion, which may or may not have been an accident. It was her mother's wish that she be raised separately from her siblings, who went to live with Lydia's family outside of RhyDin, as she felt Kirin would be better suited to raise a child with Marissa's particular gifts. It is a carefully-guarded secret that Marissa's DNA was tampered with when she was still in-utero, the effects of which are still not entirely known, though it was mainly done to stabilize the mix of her parents' bloodline. Of all her siblings, she is the only one who was able to choose between wolf and tiger forms, eventually favoring her feline side. It's for this reason, she has always felt different and something of an anomaly.

Raised by Fox and Kirin Mulder (yes, that Fox - long story), she developed a close and loving relationship with her adoptive parents and siblings, though she always knew she was different, and hence, became something of a loner. It was Kirin who helped her make her first shift as a teen and helped her choose between wolf and tiger. It was also Kirin who taught her how to travel through time, which led to numerous adventures in the past and future, not all of which ended well. During these adventures, it became clear that she was inadvertently creating alternate timelines, which hadn't existed before, and essentially fracturing her own being, putting herself and her counterparts' lives in danger. In order to rectify this, she revisited each of her fractured selves and merged with them via the Nexus, hence retaining the memories of those various selves and ending the alternate timelines. (It would take far too much time and effort to recount all those adventures in this summary.)

After that, she went into a self-imposed state of isolation in order to work through the memories, choosing Lydia's old hunting cabin outside of RhyDin as her home. A few years later, she met and fell in love with a werewolf named Emrys, and the two of them became mates, ironically and unintentionally repeating that of her birth parents' relationship. They have since turned the cabin into a homestead, where they are raising a family, as well as pigs and chickens. Marissa has also become something of an herbalist/healer, putting to use some of the abilities she (and her counterparts) have learned over the years.

Together, Emrys and Marissa have formed a pack of sorts made up of friends and family members who also share their shape-shifting abilities, and they are considered the pack's alphas. Pack members include Emrys' sister and her mate, as well as Marissa's siblings, among others. At present, Marissa and Emrys are essentially living their happily-ever-after together in RhyDin.

Note: There are currently two versions of Marissa - one older and one younger - each with their own profile and backstory. This information is for the elder Marissa, who is about nine years older than her younger counterpart. The younger Marissa, who has left RhyDin for the foreseeable future, does not share in the elder's time-traveling adventures or abilities and deviates from the other in many ways. She essentially shares the same childhood history as her older counterpart, but only up to a certain point. It should also be noted that both the older and younger Marissa consider Colleen MacLeod and her relatives to be family, due to their connection to Kirin.

OOC Background: I created Marissa many years ago as a time-traveling character for the Stars End Spaceport. She has since undergone various incarnations via various forums and stories along the way, which have changed her somewhat from the original version. She is, to date, my oldest remaining active character, though she is rarely played in public. Her story is a long and convoluted one, but one I still find interesting. My original intention was to bring her back into play so that I could give her a "happy ending", which she has essentially achieved.

Special Abilities: As a Lycan, Marissa possesses the ability to shape-change at will into a variety of forms, though she prefers that of a wolf. There are other abilities inherent in her bloodline that are slowly starting to manifest, mostly in regard to animals and nature.

IC Background: Marissa’s background is mostly the same as that of her older counterpart (see Marissa Lowell) until their teens, when they diverge. Feeling out of place in RhyDin, she recently left to go in search of her adoptive mother. Only time will tell if she returns.

OOC Background: I created this version of Marissa so that I could explore what she might be like once she grew up and didn’t follow the same path as her older counterpart.
