Challenge for Pathfinder

Post by Caleb Feren »

I’ve thought about this for a while.

I’ve thought about leaving this grant unused that the old bastard gave.

However, I’ve come to my own decision, and feelI would like to take my chance going after this Pathfinder rock.
It could prove to be useful.

So, here’s my challenge for it.

Rautakinnas - A Challenge Queue for PathFinder

Post by Runt »

A series of very large frost giant runes covered the corkboard. Below was an appended translation:

Runt the Frost Giant of Clan Simon and Clan Kabuki tires of his opal, PathFinder. He requires someone of great strength and will to wrest it from him. With the permission of his challenger, Caleb Feren, and the Duel of Fists Staff, Runt is opening this up to a challenge queue. Should Caleb Feren prove unfit and unworthy of the PathFinder Opal, Runt will accept the next challenger, and the next, and so on until he has defeated them all or the one who is worthy is found.

This great Rautakinnas will be held on Tuesday, June 30th beginning at 8PM RT. Matt Simon will be officiating.

((OOC: Caleb & the DoF Staff have agreed to make this a challenge queue! If you are interested in challenging for PathFinder, should Caleb be unsuccessful, Runt will fight you on Tuesday night! We will go through challenges up until someone is victorious.

To sign up for the challenge queue you need to do so in advance on this thread. I will accept challengers until Monday at 6ET. All challengers must meet the regular eligibility requirements*.

On Tuesday, we will handle challenges in queue order. We will start the last challenge of the night no later than 11ET. Should there be remaining challengers, Runt will make arrangements to fight each one in order at a rate of no less than one per week (but ideally on the same day).

*The Right to Challenge: Characters challenging for the Opal rank must be present on the standings, qualify as "active" (see the above "Activity" section), and be ranked as Emerald on the standings. Duelers who are inactive and return to active status must wait until the next standings update after their first regulation or tournament match before they can challenge. Emeralds are allowed one challenge per month; challenges are not cumulative. If an Emerald does not participate in a challenge match in a given month, their opportunity will not carry over to the next.))

I'm in, and I'll cover the bar tab for the night for Caleb and whoever else jumps into the queue.

Let's make it a Rautakinnas to remember, Big Guy.

I'm doubting my chances but I like a good party and free drinks are definitely my thing, so I'll add to the queue.

I have this challenge grant that's still good through the end of this cycle. I may as well use it if I can!

I'm in.

For the first time in ages, the Outback bore witness to an Opal challenge queue!

First up was Caleb Feren, who issued challenge thanks to Tass' gifted grant via url=viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32865&start=1]Opal-shard prizes[/url]. He started the first duel off with a trade but things went downhill from there as Runt opened up a 4-1 lead after 5 rounds with a lot of smashing and hurling of Caleb around The Pit (and the demise of many weevils). Though Caleb would score twice more in the 6th and 7th rounds, the last was via trade, meaning Runt took the first duel 5-3 in 7.

The second duel started immediately with more traded shots but Runt scored three straight in the 4th-6th rounds to end the second duel in a 5-2 victory, notching another defense of the green opal!

First up in the queue part of the night was Mallory, former Overwitch. At first, it seemed Runt might continue his hot-streak as he held a 2-1 lead after Round 3 (which also saw a hedgehog clamber into the ring to get close to Runt). This duel, though, it was Mallory's turn to put on a points-display as she scored four straight unanswered points to take the first duel 5-2 in 7 rounds (if anyone's seen the deer that Runt nearly crushed in that 7th round, please take good care of it...).

In the second duel, it was Mallory who opened with the lead and a 3-1 gap after four rounds. Runt caught Mallory in the 5th to get closer, but Mallory wanted as little to do with that as possible, kicking and trapping her way to two more points, victory, and the right to hold PathFinder with a 5-2 in 8 rounds win!

Congratulations to Caleb for a good showing against a tough opponent (flowers and animal friends notwithstanding) in his first ever attempt for an Opal, to Runt for notching another defense, and to Mallory for ending the challenge queue and winning the green Opal!

To note, the queued challengers after Mallory did issue valid challenges. Their challenge rights for the month (and in Eregor's case, his grant) will be returned and not considered "used".
