On Friday night the brassband club was still on their Cadentia desert vacation. Driving late in the borrowed Skoda van they had been camping in, Yuzuki saw the approaching lights of the roadside restaurant. A large painted sign in front of the weathered building read 'Clear Springs Steakhouse - Tackle the 96 oz. Prime Desert Lizard Steak Challenge! Finish in one hour and eat for free!"

"Looks like they got food" Yuzuki said to her teammates in the van as she braked and turned into the dusty lot. There were murmurs of approval from the hungry delinquents as she parked the van, all five soon tumbling out in their garish uniforms to follow Asami inside the dimly lit roadhouse. Inside the dangerous looking groups of desert travelers stared warily at the small group of Kabuki girls in their colorful sukajan jackets and the glittering ornaments they wore. The stares became less wary and more intrigued and enthusiastic when upon being seated both Asami and Yuzuki boldly declared their intent to take on the lizard steak challenge.

A half hour later there were cheers among the watching crowd as Yuzuki was defeated, seated with her head down on the bar next to her unfinished meal and appearing rather sweaty and sluggish. Asami however looked up shrewdly from two empty plates before her at the manager who was offering to comp the sukeban's whole party if the half-oni would decline her demand for an third free steak. Soon after, the girls of Rappapa were on their way back to the van. Yuzuki appeared in much better shape and spirits after rushing to the restroom midway through the negotiations, and all were clutching complimentary Clear Springs Steakhouse t-shirts that Asami had demanded in addition to the free meals.

On the New Year live concert seen on Kabuki TV, the Hanami Harmony group performed a one hour concert. During the show Yuina Hirano was among the six of the fall trainees to be presented as a permanent member of the group. Haku Kubo was also promoted to the position of co-center. In winter themed costumes the entire group performed three songs between the announcements and ceremonies.

On Tuesday the 7th the quiet was suddenly broken around the Shinsengumi headquarters in Kabuki as Jun, acting in charge of all patrol assignments for the week came into view from one of the alleys leading past 2-chome dragging Sae Kataoka along. "Uso! Uso uso uso!" Sae's loud shrill protests echoed along the street, drawing curious onlookers who watched the unamused Jun brusquely pulling the new Mazoku trainee along to the doorway leading to the station. Even with her hands secured with plastic zip ties, Sae put up quite a struggle at the threshold before she was hauled in and the closed door muffled her continued loud claims of innocence.

Much gossip followed among the Kabuki delinquents as word of the arrest got around over the course of the evening as to what the biker might have been caught at, and what her fate might be. Late on the morning of the 8th she was released however, and seemed uninjured and calm as she left the station.

The night of Friday the 10th had heavy rain in store for Kabuki Street. Perhaps that made the brassband club restless, because after hours when all was quiet and deserted they emerged from their club room adjacent to the swimming pool with their sleeping bags and bedding in hand. All five members were present when they settled into the library. Kaho took advantage of the computers while Asami sat near an open door to watch the rain falling outside. Yuzuki briefly ventured to the door, but the weather seemed to unsettle her a bit. After briefly taking in the view she searched the shelves and took some reading material back to her sleeping bag and pillows, which she'd set up closeby to Reira Tanaka's camping site. Kaho, as always, insisted on setting up her bedding furthest from the door - citing the rumors of the school being haunted. Yuzuki confidently dismissed the rumors, saying that all schools have rumored hauntings, and that in any case KSCS was provided with a blessing from the Zama Shrine.

On Friday Yuzuki was seen shopping at Jusco, in the outdoor department. There she purchased a large family size tent and some other camping equipment. The gate guardian seemed to be in a happy mood as she carried the new items out to Asami's truck and loaded them in the back. She was then seen stopping by Sunny Mart before driving back toward the pool entrance of KSCS.

Tuesday night, the 7th, all five Rappapa members were seated around the outside of the tent they were camping in on a glade at Twilight Isle. Royal had set up a magical barrier for fifty yards around their campsite so that they could have magically produced weather and an illusion of daylight and night hours, and presently the illusory sun was enjoying a scenic sunset. All were chatting happily save for Asami who was seated and dozing off in her camp chair and Yuzuki, who was standing at a large charcoal grill at the edge of the lantern light around the tent grilling some steaks for the brassband club's dinner.

Suddenly all five looked up as they spotted Hot Dog the galeb duhr busily strolling through the edge of the magical barrier around their tent site. The creature seemed unconcerned about the weather and difference in lighting, but noticed the girls and enthusiastically waved his stubby rock arms at them. "HOT DOG!" he cheered at the group when he seemed to recognize them from Kabuki Street. Kaho Arai gleefully cheered the phrase back with both hands waving, while Yuzuki grinned and waved with the bbq tongs in hand. As they waved and Hot Dog continued along on his mysterious Isle errand, the retelling of the fight against Best Elvis resumed.

( Hot Dog used with permission! )

Friday the 10th -
Yuzuki was seated in a camp chair in front of the tent in Twilight Isle's glade, feet propped on the blue plastic cooler they had out at the campsight with a book in her hands. The sound of an ATV engine rose in the distant end of the glade, and the delinquent looked over to watch Nako Iijima arriving at the edge of the trees where she parked the borrowed machine. Glancing around, Yuzuki watched as Kaho and Reira peered from their study of Kaho's portable game screen to study the short wizard, who was now walking slowly along the forest edge looking closely at the ground.

"That's Nako. I wonder what she's up to?" Yuzuki asked, looking over to the camp chair where Asami was seated. The Rappapa sukeban didn't look up from her own book, so the gate guardian set her own down and left her chair behind to walk across the glade to see. She stopped a few paces short of where Nako had paused and crouched on the ground. Yuzuki could see that the wizard was setting arcane marked mahjong tiles around a strange looking berry that was springing from the weeds at the forest edge.

"Hey Nako" Yuzuki greeted cautiously. "What are you doing?"

A few minutes later Yuzuki had recruited Kaho, and the two were roaming the glade searching for more of the Twilight Berries. Yuzuki finally located one and placed her hands around it. After imparting some of her innate illusion magic into it, she smiled as it gleamed for a moment with the infusion of magic energy. "Here" Yuzuki said, prompting Kaho to hold out the empty cardboard container so she could drop the empowered Twilight berry inside. "This will help the gaelikitten fly" she assured. Kaho looked doubtful. "What is a gaelikitten anyway?" she asked the gate guardian. Yuzuki shook her head as she closed the top of the container. "I'm not really sure. But Nako said it's usually around the sakura tree. I want to go see the tree anyway, so we'll find out!"

Later on the 10th -

The relative quiet of the forest paths surrounding the glade on Twilight Isle had been disturbed for a time by the engine sounds of the ATVs that the Rappapa delinquents had borrowed to explore some of the area. After seeing some of the notable landmarks, at least from a distance the girls were presently leaving the four wheeled vehicles to scramble up a path where Kaho had claimed to see a unicorn earlier. When the hill top clearing failed to produce a unicorn they loitered there for a time, discussing what they should do next. Yuzuki was in favor of more swimming at the beach, but the others seemed to have had their fill of the water.

Eventually growing bored, Kaho began playing with the distress flare discharger pistol that the warden Royal had loaned them in case they ran into any danger. "Hey!" she declared to Asami as an idea seemed to strike. "I bet we could see the unicorn if we had more light!" No sooner had she voiced that idea when she held the discharger at arm's length in the air and shot one of the pyrotechnic flares into the sky. The unexpected loud bang that accompanied the pyrotechnic flash drowned out Reira's warning protests. The bright flash proved too brief to see much, or to spot any unicorn but the sound of a rapidly approaching ATV seemed to show that the flare had drawn some attention.

Later in the morning, hours after the eruptions on the northern slope, four earth-movers left Kabuki Street and passed through the seamless portal to Twilight Market. The delinquent drivers stopped at the Lyceum for protective masks and fire immunity potions (and an advance on their generous payment), then continued on along mountain paths to where the most rock from the maar craters had been ejected. There they worked for several hours, moving and breaking up the still-cooling kimberlite deposits that a number of flame-bearded azer picked through to find diamonds and other precious gems.

There was the promise of 40 hours of work this week for each delinquent driver, coming out each day to move and reshape the volcanic earth that Mallory had willed to cool, making mining easier for the elemental beings.

On Friday night Izumi picked up the first order of Runt plushies from the distributor, delivering the cases to Jusco and to the gift shop at Pachinko Palace. After the fun of the Battle of Bailey Street many delinquents gathered to purchase the new plush, which was in the image of a gleeful Runt complete with oversize fabric hammer. While happy shrimps and older delinquents alike departed the shops with their new Runt collectables Izumi was in the office for a bit in the evening to set up an account to deposit Runt's share of the profits into.

"Can't it go any faster?" Yuzuki asked, looking over to where Reira was panting and conjuring wind to continuously keep the sail on the makeshift sand raft that the Rappapa girls were riding over the southern desert. Her eyes glanced away from Reira to the boxes containing the relics they had found in the desert tomb earlier in the day.

"I'm not used to moving this much weight" Reira griped, looking up at the filled sail. Yuzuki was by now watching the receding shape of the fish shaped hover car carrying the monster hunter and desert traveler who had just given them a correction on their course back to Cadentia after their dune buggy had broke down among the dunes. So distracted by her covetous look at the hover vehicle was Yuzuki that she didn't even notice that Reira, Kaho and Tomo had instantly stared in her direction at the mention of the weight of the raft.

"At least it's not hot anymore" Kaho remarked, perched at the front of the raft and standing on top of one of the boxes containing one of the relics they had recovered. There were five in total, one for each of them. "That's true" Yuzuki agreed, peering off into the dark. "And thanks to getting directions we won't end up in the naga camp" As the raft continued to glide along the tops of the dunes, she looked over to check on Asami who was presently taking a nap next to the tail of the chimera they had defeated when it had ambushed them during their attempt to repair their broken down dune buggy earlier. "We'll get our bounties, and we'll be famous! They'll put our names in the newspaper when these ancient relics are shown at museum exhibits" Yuzuki predicted gleefully.

As she was handing Reira the water canteen both looked to Kaho who was standing watch at the head of the raft when the shorter girl exclaimed. "There's lights up ahead. The woman was right! That's Cadentia"

Friday afternoon, before their trip, Yuzuki and Asami decided to take Neko for a walk on Seaside Beach to see how she handled the change of scenery. Unflappable even in the face of eminent occult sacrifice, the small black cat trotted along in the sand at the end of her bright blue leash patterned with leaping salmon without much care in the world, leading the two distracted delinquents as they discussed their upcoming trip to the water park.

She'd been murder-chirping at the seagulls earlier, so they didn't notice when she made the noise again, this time focused on two bright green eye stalks sticking up out of the sand, quivering as pupils swiveled all around. While the crustacean studied the two larger threats, the black cat slunk off to one side and lowered herself flat to the sand. She stuck her rear into the air and shook once... twice... then pounced, clasping her paws around one eye stalk and gnawing fearsomely at it!

The one-foot crab surfaced in a bursting sand cloud, skittering and bowing forward in an effort to shake Neko off, but the clawed cat was latched on tight. With its weight on its tilted front end, it flipped over onto its back, legs kicking in the air, and Neko leapt free and pounced again! By the time the sand cloud cleared, the razortooth crab's insides had been shredded and the cat was sitting down beside it, licking her paw laconically.

Yuzuki looked bewildered by the sudden sand cloud, looking past Asami to where the small black cat had pounced. When it cleared, her eyes widened at the monstrous crab that Neko had defeated. "Good work, Hunter Neko!" she exclaimed. She had brought some of Neko's salmon treats along for the trip to the beach in case the cat needed a reward for good behavior, and now shook a few from the pouch after taking it from her jacket's inner pocket, holding them out on the palm of her hand as she crouched next to the cat and defeated crab.

As Neko soon began to eat her treats Asami reached out and gently began running a hand along the her back while saying, "Neko, Neko."
