Week 1 Madness Wrap Up & Week 2 Predictions

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, here were are again for another year of DoS Madness! After a brief sabbatical during which I got married (Avery is Best Girl!), I am back and here to report all of your Madness Sports News. I got back a little too late to write up some pre-Madness predictions, but let’s do a wrap up of Week One and see how Week Two might play out. Without further ado…

Week One Wrap

Week One saw ten bouts of action and six total byes. While many matches went the way most expected, there were a couple surprises. Will we see more of that as our top seeds work into the fray? I suppose we’ll find out soon! Let’s break it down.

Hayashibara Division:

[8] Eva Luna -vs- [9] Romeo MacKenzie

Despite their relatively close seeding, most expected Rhydin’s favorite babealicious doc to handle Dirty’s rookie brawler fairly handily. Ro has relatively little experience in the rings though he was recently named the Squire of Dockside by current baroness and Dirty veteran, Terry King. Though I would have hedged my bets with Eva as so many did in their brackets, Romeo swept the good Doc right off her feet and walked away with a solid 5-1.5 in 11 round win.

[5] Baphelocutis est Lathadoscia -vs- [12] Nikolai Allen

What in the nine hells were they thinking with this pairing? A decorated warlord dragon something or other, known for his brutal in ring tactics, versus what had to either be a midget or more likely, a five year old. A five year old? Yes. In Madness. Well. Alright then. Though Nikolai got plenty of points for being absolutely adorable, Baph made quick work of the little boy with a score of 5-2.5 in 11. I’m sure he’s proud of himself. Way to go Baph, you probably made a little kid cry.

[4] Anubis Karos -vs- [13] Strawberry

In a match that most likely expected would end in a collaring, it seemed like it would be a quick match for everyone’s not so favorite slaver. The pair met surprisingly on time with little threatening and even less fanfare. Though we saw that strawberry banner, Pitt. That was pretty cute. In what I am going to deem the upset of the week, Strawberry took Anubis to the cleaners with a relatively solid win, 5-3.5 in 12 rounds. Maybe 13 isn’t such an unlucky number after all. We’ll see if her beginner’s luck holds out.

[11] Leena Vincent -vs- [6] Xanth Van Bokkelen

Leena is one scrappy chick even if the pools didn’t put a lot of faith in her. Me? I thought she had it in her considering her past appearances at the duels. Alas, it wasn’t to be this year. In the shortest match of the week, Xanth proved why he’s tied with E Smith as the 1000 noble pool’s most common pick to win it all. Xanth wins, 5-2 in 6.

[10] Tahlia Faras -vs- [7] Ebon Ilnaren

The former Governor of Rhydin went up against IFL Rookie standout, Tahlia Faras. Here’s another case where I was pulling for the underdog. But then again, have you seen her? That girl is smokin’. Ebon’s a married man though, so evidently he was immune to her feminine wiles at least long enough to put up a narrow squeaker of a win, 5-4 in 10.

Dragoon-Talanador Division:

[8] Doran Ilnaren -vs- [9] Lilith

Just like the 8 vs 9 fight over in the Hayashibara Division, this one was expected to be close. Although Lilith is the current Diamond in the Outback and has previously held the mantle of Archmage, she has done relatively little within the Arena. Doran, on the other hand, is the Squire of Old Market and has been steadily working on climbing the ranks. It was a close one, but Doran edged her out, 4.5-3.5 in 15 rounds.

[5] Elijah Solaris -vs- [12] Conner Reid

Established Warlord versus unknown but roguishly good looking new caller. Most of the money was on Elijah here rather than the relative unknown. I think there were some ladies pulling for Conner in this one, but despite going past the fifteen rounds of regulation and into overtime, Elijah still managed to hold Conner off. Maybe Conner can use The Hold to keep working on those dueling skills. He’s got promise!

[4] Kheldar Drasinia vs [13] The Horseman

Halloween came early for Wrecking Crew’s Kheldar Drasinia. In a rather spooky match, he went up against 13 seed The Horseman, who was… legitimately a headless horseman. Thankfully Kheldar keep his head on, and unlike the 13 seed upset in Hayashibara Division, the Horseman was eliminated by a score of 5-2 in 9.

[10] Duci Lovasz -vs- [7] Nat Candle

The fabulous blonde bombshell put up quite the fight against the long time Squire of Battlefield Park. In the end, it wasn’t quite enough and Nat sent Duci packing by a solid score of 5-2 in 10. She may have lost but she looked beautiful doing it and therefore will always be a winner in my heart.

[11] Angela Aronowitz -vs- [6] Mason Harrigan

The last fight of the week, Angela and Mason had not yet had a chance to fight before we went to press. But if I have to guess, I’m thinking Mason should take this one.
