The Imperial Grand Rhy'Din / Sunday, September 2, 2012
The morning after Monte Carlo Night

“Oh God.. Feel like sh*t..” Terry murmured. Hands brushing against stray strands of short hair in a small attempt to fix without needing to use a brush. King hadn’t got much sleep that night. With the events from the night before, how could she? Running on vapors would be most of her Sunday. A few energy drinks and some activity would cure that - so she didn’t think much about it.

She made her way out of the bathroom. Turning to look over to the bed that held the sleeping Gabby. Already dressed up and ready to go; all King needed to do was grab her things and be on her way. It’s exactly what she had and in mind and even began to do, but stopped just short of opening the door. She looked back towards Gabby and felt her lips curl into a sort of smile.

The note was left on the bedside table. Beside the clock that read 6:31 AM. She pinched at the half empty glass of Blueberry Moon and placed it at the edge of the note, using it as some sort of paperweight to make sure it wouldn’t go fluttering off. She also had a feeling it would be the first thing Gabby grabbed at when she woke up, so it was the best spot to put the note.

Terry grabbed at her bag after that and went on her way. Leaving Gabby behind to enjoy her rest. At least one of them would be getting some sleep.

St. Mary's Catholic School for Girls
Mandatory Sunday Mass

“You’re late.” said the whispered voice of Alex. Terry only cast a tired look her way as she sat herself down next to her at the end of that long pew.

“Tell me somethin’ I don’t know.” Was the girls response, which only caused the blonde to shake her head and let out a soft sigh. Both the sigh, and Terry’s own voice, kept low so that the monotone voice of the preaching Priest upfront easily overpowered the both of them. King settled in with that lazy slouch and readied herself for a good two hours of a mind-numbing religious service. At least she could do it by her friends side.

“Two days.” Alex said. Terry looked her way, but found herself downcasting her eyes when she felt a hand press against her own. “Yeah.. your birthday, right?” King voice piped up again. Her wrist turning about and fingers curled to take Alex’s own between them; then closed to offer a little squeeze in return. “Make any plans yet?” she pressed.

“I was thinking. We sneak out.. and you take me to dinner?” Alex looked somewhat shy when she asked, but the smile that found her lips was one that King couldn’t easily ignore. The teen leaned in and whispered out. “But can’t we just do some eatin’ out in your room instead? Be easier on my wallet.” When Alex heard this, a faint blush found its way over her features. She would then nudge against Terry’s shoulder, causing the half and half to lean away from the light force. “No.. I want a real dinner. Something fancy, you know? Eighteen is a big deal.”

Right. Eighteen. Alex was a little older than Terry by a few months. She turning eighteen only reminded her that the girl known as `King` would soon be as well. Terry put on her thinking face and feigned thought for a few moments, but was interrupted by the feel of Alex’s lips pressing against the edge of hers. She turned, seeking to meet them full on - but a voice from her right caught both of the girl’s attention.

“Terry King..!” A raised whisper called out. Causing some eyes to look their way from the surrounding pews. Hand met Terry’s shoulder and tugged upon it, causing the girl to rise up from the grip that was taken about her collar. “Sister Laura..” Was all Terry could say while she was forcibly dragged down the aisle. Alex was giving her a sympathetic look, but all Terry could do was grin while being pulled away. Some girls they walk past cracking their own grins and even snickering, which prompted Terry to throw a wink their way.

There wasn’t many words between her and the Sister, but Terry would soon find herself forced to sit down in one of the pews up front that were meant for the Nuns. A bible dropped into her lap the second she was seated. “Pay attention. You’re in the house of the Lord.” said Sister Laura. “.. Yeah, yeah..” Came in return from the teen. A quick slap to the back of her head looked to quiet Terry up though.

The service went on. King casting glances here or there, but being relatively good thanks to her reassignment of seating. “You smell good..” she said. This caused the Nun to look her way with a perked brow. King kept her head down, but her eyes were peering up enough to make out the woman’s face. “New perfume..? You usually wear that other stuff.” She continued. Sister Laura rolled her eyes and brought a hand to Terry’s knee. Offering not one, but two quick pats before returning the hand back into her lap. “Not here, not now.” Was all she could say. This only caused the teen to look back down to the open bible in her lap. “Not what you said last Friday..”

Another smack to the back of her head. It wasn’t as hard as before, but King read the message loud and clear; but that didn’t stop her from smirking.

“Stay out of trouble.” That - along with a pointed look, was the last words Sister Laura offered Terry before they parted ways. Service was over and left both staff and students to return to their everyday lives. “Yes Ma’am.” King said. Turning around and shuffling past a few slower moving girls to escape through the doors of the church. The sunlight hitting her on the way out, causing her eyes to squint ever so lightly while attempting to get used to the change.

`Time to hit up the casino..` King’s voice echoed inside her thoughts. That, among other things she wanted to do upon returning to that suite she rented with Gabby. Hand reached into skirt pocket to pull free her cellphone. She wondered if the girl was up, or if she should bother her if she wasn’t. Thumb pressed to the menu button, causing that touch screen to become alive. Address book pressed upon and thumbed through till she found the name BbyGrlG - and she was just about to press it before a few voices sounded out.

“Hey!” -- “Watch out!” Two girls said.

Terry turned to see what all the commotion was about, but found the wind knocked straight out of her when something collided against the small of her back. Winded, felt herself slipping. Knees crumpled from the force behind the blow, causing her to almost slam face first into the hard cement that made up the walkway.

“Th’f**k..?!” Terry cried out in a mix of pain and confusion.

“SHE’S MY GIRLFRI-” It was all she was able to make out before a quick shock of pain met the back of her head. Then everything went black.

When Terry awoke, it was to the bright light of the infirmary. A groan left her lips when she attempted to rise up, but the throbbing pain at the back of her head only caused her to collapse back down against that pillow.

“Mmhm.. I wouldn’t sit up if I were you, Little Miss King. You took quite the hit.” The voice of the school nurse met her ears. Terry only groaned out -- again.

“What happened?” She wanted to say `what the F**K happened`, but there was the whole speaking to your elders issue thing at hand. The nurse swiveled about on her chair and rolled closer to the bed that Terry laid upon. “Well.. from what I’ve heard? You slept with the wrong girl.” Yes. This sounded exactly like what a well respected nurse of thirty eight should be saying. King cracked open one of her eyelids and looked up at the brown haired woman. “Who?”

“If you’re asking about who hit you. The little Asian girl.. I’m surprised too, I never would've expected her to do something like this.” She sounded maybe a little too thrilled about the gossip. Which only caused Terry to close that eye and mumble to herself. Right, her.. Now she knew who she was talking about. Kiyomi. Okay, even Terry could be surprised about that one. That girl was always so quiet and reserved.

Oh.. Wait, isn’t she dating Jia? Damn, Jia’s fine..

That type of thinking got Terry into this mess.

Terry groaned twice already. This would be her third. Her eyes snapping open when she felt that double-fingered slap to her forehead. “Her parents have donated a lot in the past.. Don’t expect the Watch to be called anytime soon, sweetheart. She’s being punished, but you need to stay clear of her and her little girlfriend from now on if you know what’s good for you. That’s my advice.”

“.. Doesn’t mean she can go around crackin’ skulls if she’s pissed off. Jia could've said no, yanno..”

And that got another one of those two-fingered pops to the forehead. Terry furrowed her brows and glared up at the nurse. “Relationships are a life and death thing at her age.. at your age. You can’t expect her not to get mad, kid.” the woman said.

Terry pursed her lips and looked off to the side, but even the smallest turn of her head caused that throbbing to spike. She winced at the feeling. “.. What time is it?”

“A little past one.” The nurse replied after looking to her watch. King mumbled a few more times, a good many of those being curse words. She reached to feel at her pocket, but couldn’t find her cell phone. “Where’s my phone..?” Not even two seconds later did she feel something drop against her stomach. Terry jerked up, causing her head to throb even more. “Nnk..” She cried out in protest against the pain. “Why’re you being such a b*tch..?” It looked like the whole respecting your elders was thrown out the window.

“I’m jealous. Obviously.” The nurse said in an exaggerated tone, then rolled away on that chair. Returning back to her desk.

King grumbled and brought her phone up to face level.. and then there was that groan. The screen was scratched and even had a crack in it. It was working, yes - but she’d need a new one. Trying her best to navigate the busted touch screen. Once she got to the address book, she saw that name again. BbyGrlG.

“Ugh.. she must be f**king pissed..”

9:54 am That’s what time the large digital bedside clock said. Gabby blinked a few times to clear the blurriness from her eyes as she tried to figure out where she was. Rolling onto her back, she lifted a hand to hold against her forehead. ”Ohmygod. That just hurt so bad. I swear King roofied me again or somethin’.” Comical, considering King had never done so in the first place, but it was a good joke between the two of them now.

Laying still for a few more minutes, she tried to overcome the headache and nausea that threatened to cause her to vomit up every drop of alcohol and dessert she had consumed the previous night. Stretching for a few moments, the girl finally decided to sit up and reach over for the glass upon the nightstand that held the remnants of her seventh Blueberry Moon. The now overly sweet drink didn’t have the desired effect of rinsing away the feeling of cotton in her mouth, it only worsened the problem.

10:07 am Sliding to the edge of the bed, she leaned over to grab that martini glass again, and with it, a note that she had missed a few minutes ago. Another drink was taken, this time the glass was tipped up so the last sip was consumed. ”Ugh, feel like shiiiit. I swear, God, if ya make my head stop hurting and the room stop spinning, I won’ drink no more.” Throat clear, correction...”Okay, I won’ drink so much. Just make it go ‘way.”

Now that she had prayed like a good girl, she read the note.

Gabby started to nod in reply to the part about getting pretty wasted then grabbed at her forehead again. ”Oh god...why ya forsakin’ me in my hour of need, yo? Ugh.” That was the extent of her Sunday morning church service...praying for God to cure the hangover. Hopefully Terry was having a better morning and didn’t have a headache this bad. Of course, the other girl likely hadn’t drank all of those Blueberry Moons plus the majority of a big bottle of cherry rum.

She glanced over at the clock and frowned. Less than an hour to whip herself into shape so she could be ready to go downstairs and deal with the loud casino. The thought was enough to make her groan again. Still, it would be worse if she wasn’t ready because King would surely make her pay for drinking too much and not being ready to gamble when she came back.

Finally standing up, Gabby looked down at herself and frowned. She had passed out in her dress and now it was really wrinkled and her hose had a tear along the side of her knee. ”F***ing great, Gabby.” She didn’t have any other clothes with her since she hadn’t planned to stay here last night. Looking around, she found the complimentary plush robe furnished by the casino and decided she could put that on after she showered and then send King downstairs with some money to buy her something in the gift shop. Casino hotels like this had swanky gift shops, after all. So, with that all settled, Gabby slowly made her way into the shower.

10:53 am She emerged from the bathroom in that robe with the embossed lettering on the breast, while finger combing her dark brown hair, streaked with purple. Her attention was caught by the mini bar, and finally she smiled a little. ”Little hair of the dog that bitcha will work wonders.” Grabbing several of the miniatures of the really good liquor, Gabby settled onto the bed and proceeded to pour them all into her martini glass. The liquors were swirled around in the glass by her finger before that finger was licked and the glass was upended. A little gasp from the burning in her throat, and then she was laying back against the huge fluffy pillows, trying to make the pain in her head go away by sheer force of will.

12:22 pm She must have fallen asleep. Blinking away some of the blurriness again, Gabby looked over at the clock. Frowning when she saw how late it was, she noticed that she was still alone in the room. ”Maybe King went downstairs.” Was her first thought but then she remembered the note...King said she would wake her up if she wasn’t awake when she got back.

Gabby turned on the tv and tried to distract herself. When that didn’t work, she grabbed her phone from her purse and started to send the girl a text. She stopped herself, however. ”Don’ need to be checkin’ up on her, she’s a big girl. She’ll be here soon.”

Gabby proceeded to wait until the checkout time was only seven minutes away, still sitting in the hotel’s robe. King was nearly two hours late and there had been no call to say she would be late or wouldn’t be coming back today. She gritted her teeth as she slid out of the robe and threw it onto the bed. Her dress was pulled down over her head and after a full minute of stretching and contorting, she finally had it zipped up most of the way. Grabbing her heels, purse, and a couple more of those miniature booze bottles, Gabby went back downstairs to check out.

She even walked around the casino, barefoot, to see if possibly King had decided to let her sleep, after all. After seeing no sign of her anywhere, Gabby cashed in one of her casino chips to pay for cab fare and gave the rest of the several hundred dollar’s worth to the man cashing them out. “Add that to the winnings for the kids, please.”

Though feeling horribly embarrassed by the state of her appearance, she let the Concierge arrange her transportation. Riley and David had very professional employees, thankfully, and he was polite enough not to stare at how dishevelled the girl was.

Less than thirty minutes later, a slightly worried and very annoyed Gabby unlocked the door to the ran down apartment she shared with Noah and her three roommates. She was putting the keys back into her purse when she heard Noah snort. Looking up, she gave him a puzzled look, having completely forgotten how long she had been gone. If she had remembered prior to coming back, Gabby wouldn’t have come home at all.

”What’s your problem?”

“What’s my problem? My problem is that my girlfriend has been gone for two days and shows up looking like a frumpy whore coming home from an all nighter.”

“That’s not what happened and you know it, Noah. Please don’ start right now, I gotta headache.”

“Don’t start right now, Gabby? It started two days ago when you left, b*tch.”

Maybe it was the tone of his voice or that violent snarl that clued Gabby in to what was coming. Or maybe it was just past experience. Whichever it was, she had enough of a warning to turn back around to open the door but not enough time to get away.

Just have to stay calm...

Post by Gabby »

Mikey was pacing back and forth in the emergency room waiting area. He had carried a broken and bleeding Gabby down the stairs of her apartment building, put her into his car, and had driven her to RhyDin Memorial Hospital.

Somehow, he had remained calm during all of this but the adrenaline rush was fading now and he was antsy because he had a few calls to make. No, that idea was tossed away. He couldn’t deal with hearing the voices of the people that cared for her. Not right now. A hand reached up to rub across his forehead with a rough grip; his head was pounding. He had to notify people that she was here, so he opted to text.

Big D: [4:27 PM]

Yo, Donnie. It’s Mikey. Got some bad news. Gabby is hurt and is at the hospital ER. Brought her in 45 minutes ago. Docs won’t let me back. Don’t know how bad it is but she was breathing when I got here.

Michael Watson: [4.29 PM]

Be there in ten. I expect you to tell me what happened when I get there, Michael.

“Shitshitshit. Donnie’s gonna kill me. He’s gonna want to know why I didn’t stop Noah.”

Mikey sat down, leaned forward with his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands. He took a few deep breaths then fished Gabby’s phone from the pocket of his hoodie. Looking over her text message log, he found a number he didn’t recognize, so naturally he clicked to read the messages.

2147492018 [2:15 PM]

Ayo, babygirl. Srry didn’t come back. Got hurt aftr mass. In nurses office now. Txt me.

2147492018 [4:10 PM]

Ur not mad right?

“Okay, that’s gotta be Terry texting from another number.”

2145555037 [4:33 PM]

Is this Terry? Got the number off of Gabbys phone.

She's mad, isn't she?

Post by Gabby »

"Dealer wins with 19. Damn, Little Miss King. You would've gotten cleaned out."

Flat look found Terry's face as she stared over to the Nurse that sat at her opposite. With nothing to do and not being allowed to sleep, the teen was forced to spend her time playing games to keep herself occupied. First it was chess -- but there wasn't a need to go into details on how badly she got beat. Then it was poker, and she felt a little more confident in that. Right now - it was blackjack, and she was just getting creamed. She was right, if Terry's luck was this bad right now - how would it have been if none of this happened and she went back to the casino?

Gabby and her would've probably left the place looking like two big losers.

Thinking of that brought Terry's mind away from the game. "Hit me.." She said, not really paying attention to her cards. Right now her mind hadn't been on the game. There was a brief glance to Alex's cell phone. No - no change. `She's probably mad at me..` Terry thought. Her own cell phone was busted. When she tried to make a call or even change menus - the phone would just turn off and back on. In the end all she could do was rely on the kindness of her friend.

"Aww.. Twenty-Five, you lose." Terry's attention snapped back to the game when she heard that. Peering down at the cards. A queen and a nine.. Right, she just had to ask for another card. The teen shook her head and shot an annoyed look toward the now laughing nurse. She might of had a few choice words for the woman, but her borrowed phone began to buzz. She instantly grabbed for it while rising off from that stool. Leaving the Nurse, who was currently calling her a `Bad Sport`, so that she could settle down at that bed once more.

2145555037 [4:33 PM]

Is this Terry? Got the number off of Gabbys phone.

That wasn't what she wanted to see. The number wasn't Gabby's, of course it wasn't -- it belonged to that Mikey-guy. Terry clicked her tongue and lowered her gaze down into her lap. `She must be mad..` That had to be it. Why else would he be talking to her? It caused Terry to grow a little annoyed too. She explained why she couldn't make it back to the casino, there wasn't a reason to get mad. She should be responding to her own texts - not this guy. Terry rolled her eyes, then hunched over so that she could get to work on a response.

2147492018 [4:35 PM]

Yeah. She's mad isn't she?

Short hand thrown out the window. It took her a little longer to thumb out the text, but it also gave her time to think a little even more she pressed send. "You breaking more hearts?" The nurse said, which caused Terry to shoot her another look in return. The look was enough to have the older woman pout and wheel away back to her desk. "Looks like the game's over.. I won, by the way. You owe me money." Then looking over her shoulder with a smirk. "You have one week."

Terry rolled her eyes again and laid sideways against the bed. Her back turned to the other woman. Brown eyes focused themselves on that cell phone. `She's mad..` Terry thought again. Her right leg shifting some to run sock covered foot against the bare flesh of her opposite leg. An attempt, if anything, to try and comfort herself maybe a little as she waited for that return text.

Mikey read that text and frowned. How was he supposed to reply to that? He had no idea what was going on between the two of them. How did he tell her that Gabby was in the emergency room when they were obviously having another falling out? Well, Mikey wasn’t known for his communication skills or sympathy. So he pushed away that awkward feeling and just told the truth. No sugar coating it or slow leading up to it.

2147492018 [4:39 PM]

Gabby is in the ER at RhyDin Memorial. Just thought you might want to know.

There's some heavy sh*t going on...

Post by Gabby »

He no sooner had that text sent then Donnie and Moe were rushing through the automatic sliding doors that permitted entrance to the emergency area. Donnie looked around and finally spotted Mikey. His face was a mask of worry and something far more lethal. It was a visible thing, watching the big man get control over himself. First he cracked his neck as he rolled his head to each side. Then he clenched and relaxed his fists a few times and shook his arms slightly. Finally that barrel chest could be seen expanding with the huge lungfuls of air he took in and held before releasing it with a loud whoosh. At this point, Moe had a work callused hand pressed to Donnie’s shoulder to lend his support.

“Won’ be helpin’ Gabriella none if we be losin’ our heads ‘fore we e’en know what’s happened to the lass, Donnie.”

Mikey watched this unfold and just sat down. Donnie scared him and he would admit it to anyone. He had been present for more than one fight between Donnie and Noah and to this day, Mikey was still amazed that Noah was stupid enough to put his hands on Gabby. Mikey hated to be the one to tell the man what had happened. Mostly because he was the one in the direct line of fire.

"and where do you think you're going?"

That voice came from behind Terry's then grasped shoulder. The girl turned her head and spotted the Nurse, who in turn was stopping the teens advances toward the door. "I can't stay here.. somethin's come up.." Terry said. About to rattle off a few more excuses, but interrupted before she could part her lips once more. "No, you're staying here. I don't know what's going on but that blow to your head could be serious. You're under observation, kid. Sit down and relax - whatever the problem is, it can wait till later."

That's not what Terry wanted to hear. Right now all she could think of was Gabby in the hospital and wanting to see her. There were so many questions. How'd she get hurt, what exactly happened, could it possibly be -her- fault since she never returned to the casino? She jerked her shoulder forward in an attempt to break the older woman's grasp, but it just wouldn't let up. It instead gripped tighter and roughly pulled her back. King grit her teeth and then barked out. "It's my fault, alright?! Something's going on and it might be my fault..!" She jerked again and turned around. Maybe her statement caused some sort of surprise in the Nurse, but that grip was no longer there when she pulled away this time.

The teen turned about and looked to the woman with a serious expression. ".. Look, I'm sorry.. but some heavy sh*t is goin' on and I can't just lay around. She's important.." Maybe it was in that small moment of panic that her words got crossed up, but that was what left her lips.

Maybe it was the look on her face, or maybe it was her words. The nurse looked to her and said nothing for what felt like a good minute, then turned around and sighed out before sitting down with her back turned to the teen. "I'll just be over here doing some paperwork.. Unlike what some of the girls might claim, I don't have eyes in the back of my head. I sure hope my patient won't just sneak away while I'm busy."

King didn't need to hear anymore. She smiled briefly in relief, then quickly turned around to rush through the door. RhyDin Memorial was a good district away -- but she could run. Even if the back of her head was throbbing in a constant reminder of pain, as long as she could put one foot in front of another and pump those legs - she'd make it.

I wanna see my little girl...

Post by Gabby »

While King was running...

“Hello, I’m here to see Gabriella Alexandros. I was notified that she was here in your emergency department.”

Donnie’s accent and rough, deep voice commanded the attention of the receptionist behind the desk as he grasped the lapels of his jacket and gave a quick tug. She looked up from the forms she was filing and stared at the towering man blankly for a moment before finally rolling her chair over to the other side of that massive counter so she could grab the clipboard that told her who was currently being treated. With her finger running down the list, she stopped next to Gabby’s name and then looked up at Donnie and now Moe, who was no longer standing behind the bigger man.

“Only immediate family are permitted entrance to the treatment area. Are you family?”

“Yeah, I’m her daddy and this here is her pops.”

Donnie spoke the words without even thinking about the implication of what he was saying. Certainly, the receptionist didn’t miss it as she looked from the man over to the nodding Moe. It wasn’t that she was unaccustomed to these alternative lifestyles, it was just a strange pairing. Who was she to question love, however.
“Your name?”

“Donnie Alexandros. Like I done said, I’m her daddy. I was told she been hurt and I wanna see my little girl.”

Donnie and Moe were both permitted to the treatment area of the emergency department and were taken back to the partitioned treatment room and directed to sit and wait for the girl to return from ‘testing.’

“What the hell kinda testin’ they gotta do on her? Somebody best be givin’ me some answers ‘bout my kid.” Donnie hadn’t, in fact, sat down as he had been directed.

“Mr. Alexandros, if the doctor takes the time to come and talk to you, that is time that he isn’t spending with your daughter treating her injuries.”

Not that the doctor would have taken that time away from his patient but the big man didn’t need to know this. The bluff worked and Donnie finally moved to take a seat and wait, leaning forward with elbows on his knees as his hands were clasped together and thumbs were nervously circling one another.
___________________

If Gabby had heard Donnie calling her that in public, she probably would have just willed the floor to swallow her up. However, she couldn’t hear any of that since she was currently being moved to the radiology department for a full body MRI. It was obvious that her right wrist was broken as well as that shoulder being dislocated but she was so badly beaten that they wanted to rule out any other broken bones and internal injuries.

The high dose of valium they had given her prior to the procedure had Gabby mostly knocked out. It was nearly twice the typical dose given for patients experiencing anxiety due to the MRI but Gabby had already been experiencing so much anxiety that they needed to give her something if only to prevent her from further injuring herself. She had already tried to get off of the gurney and out of the ER, and they had already replaced her IV once and hadn’t wanted to use force or wrist restraints to keep the girl from doing it again...not after what she had already been through.

I failed her...

Post by Gabby »

No matter how fast she ran, it still took time. Her pace kept much of the same, at least till she was almost hit when she crossed some traffic; that was the last thing she needed right now. Some yelling and a few bangs to the cars hood and she'd be off once more. The rest of the run wasn't as eventful. Most of it was her panicking on the inside, but also at the same time trying her best to calm herself down; but it just wasn't working.

`It's my fault.. is has to be..` - she couldn't get that thought out of her head.

Right foot lifted up a little higher so she could step up the curb outside of the hospital. Opting to take the more grassy route instead of going along with the twists and turns of the sidewalk. She cut close next to a few hedges and took a sharp turn to jog for those sliding doors. Only then did she pause, but only for a second so that she could twist her body about and side-step through those still opening doors.

The sun, on top of her own activity, had caused a nice sheen of sweat against her tanned skin. A visible showing of how much trouble she went through to get here. Right eye wincing closed when she felt another throb of pain shoot from the back of her head. Something like a snarl of anger followed when she tried her best to bury the feeling and get back to what, at least to her, mattered more. Terry might have charged head first for the receptionists desk, but she caught sight of Mikey before that. She hurriedly stepped over and spoke out between heavy breaths.

"Where -.. where is she..?! What the fuck happened?!" she said.

Her right arm lunging out. Fingers roughly curling about the fabric of the man’s shirt so that she could tug him towards her. From the look on her face, she might of been just about ready to punch his lights out. But this was how a worried Terry looked. She just wanted answers, and she wanted them now.

Mikey hadn’t noticed Terry come through the doors, since he was too busy trying to think of potential answers to the questions he knew Donnie was gonna be bombarding him with. Little did he know that Donnie wasn’t the only person that would use whatever force necessary to get the desired result...which in this case, was answers.

A surprised yelp met King’s tugging and cursing before he put his hands around her upper arms and pushed her gently away from himself.

“What the hell, Terry...we’re all on the same side here. Chill your ass out.”

There wasn’t any conviction in his words, only weariness and worry. He released her arms and took a step back while chewing at his lower lip.

“I didn’t see it happen but I heard Gabby screaming after she got home and when I got out to the front room, Noah was kicking her.” He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair and exhaled heavily.

“She was just laying there with her arm all twisted under her and he wouldn’t stop kicking...I...I grabbed him and we started to fight but...”

Mikey turned away then and walked towards the wall of windows and looked out, his gaze not on what was in front of him but on the scene that he wouldn’t be able to easily forget. His voice was so quiet, Terry might not be able to hear him.

“I failed her. I wasn’t strong enough and I let him hurt her more.”

That was what Mikey believed, but what would be obvious was the condition of the boy’s face. It was obvious that he had put up a hell of a fight. He blamed himself for all of this, just as much as King did.

You were supposed to protect her!

`I failed her. I wasn’t strong enough and I let him hurt her more.` That was enough to get Terry’s blood to boil. He might of tried to stop it, he might of got his ass kicked, but he still allowed it to continue on. If King was of a cooler mind - she might of been able to understand his side of the situation. But not right now. All she saw was a coward and it made her skin crawl in anger.

This same anger was what caused her fingers to curl and take the shape of clenched fists. “You’re supposed to be a fuckin’ man.. You’re supposed to fuckin’ protect her..” She hissed through clenched teeth. Her mind was going wild. He could have smashed Noah upside the head, he could of took a baseball bat to his knee.. Fuck - he could of even stabbed the guy!

All that pent up anger needed to escape, and it did so in the form of King swinging out a wild fist aimed for Mikey’s face.

If King thought Mikey would fight back, she was wrong. He made no move to raise an arm to cover his face or to turn away. He knew he deserved what she was giving him.

The receptionist, however, could care less about Mikey’s guilt or King’s anger. She immediately lifted the phone receiver and called for security. It was only a few moments before two officers arrived to break up the one sided fight, pulling the still swinging King off of the boy.

“Miss...” Then more loudly. “Miss. Settle down. What is going on here?”

The other officer had pulled Mikey to the other side and was trying to get a statement from him as well. He knew they were both about to get thrown out of the place so he did the only thing he felt he could do.

“Sir, please let her stay. It was my fault. Besides, this is the sister of the girl I brought in earlier...she is a patient back there. I’ll go and she can stay and everything will be fine.”

Pulling his arm away from the officer, Mikey made his way to the automatic sliding doors and paused before going out.

“I’m sorry. Tell her that for me, please.”

With the other officer, King was trying her hardest not to break away and scream more at Mikey. There was just so much anger that she wanted to unleash on him at this very moment, but the strong arms of that officer kept her back, and soon enough had her pinned by the shoulders against the wall. He was telling her to calm down, or at least that's as much of his words that King was willing to listen to.

Maybe it was Mikey getting out of her sight, or maybe all that thrashing and flailing about finally got her to calm down, but she was soon enough slouched against the wall and looking to the figure of authority that held her.

Questions were asked. He wanted her statement. King grit her teeth and peered down to the floor. King usually took the same approach when she dealt with an officer of the law. Keep quiet and wait till help arrives. Either in the form of a distraction so she could somehow escape, or some lawyer in a nice looking suit. But right now, she really - REALLY wanted to spill the beans. Gabby was in the ER right now, her idiot of a boyfriend the cause of this mess, and she just wanted to yell it right in the officers face so they could - maybe, somehow - fix the problem.

".. He should of protected her.. " She tried her hardest, but she felt her voice choke.

Something warm and wet rolled down her cheek. She didn't realize it till then, she had started to cry. All that frustration and worry finally getting the better of her. In that second, the officer changed from an imposing figure she shouldn't trust, to a chest she desperately wanted to cry against.

"She's the sister of the domestic abuse victim." The other officer said. Returning back to his partner after Mikey left. They shared a few words, but all King really cared about was the feeling of that chest against her face. Her fingers curling, squeezing at the strong arms that held her tight. She felt so weak right now, so useless.

"I should of been there.."

The officer patted the girl’s back, “Ssh ssh. She’s going to be alright. Maybe if you go back to see her, that will help. Your dad is back there too sweetie. You’ll see...it’s going to be okay.”

The officer that was trying to console King looked above her head towards his partner. “I’ll meet you at the cafeteria, Tom. Gonna escort this kid back to see her sister.”

He led King over to the receptionist’s counter and found a tissue. Handing it to her, he tried to offer a reassuring smile before leading her back through those double doors and to the treatment room where Donnie and Moe were sitting. The officer ushered her in and nodded towards the two men.

“Your daughter was in the waiting area getting into a bit of a scrap with some boy. When he told us she was the patient’s sister, I figured it would be alright to let her come back to wait with you.”

Donnie blinked a couple of times then turned to look at Moe, nodding a little. Moe, having a soft spot for the girl, stood and went to her with his arms open.

“Now now, lass. Ye sister’ll be jes’ fine, ye’ll see. They’s runnin’ some tests now but she’s nae in any more danger.”

He patted King’s shoulder and led her to the last available chair and urged her to sit. Donnie, watched the two for a moment then turned to the security guard.

“Thanks for bringin’ my kid back here and keepin’ her outta trouble, officer.”

The guard gave them all a solemn nod and left to meet his partner in the cafeteria. Once he was gone, all eyes fell upon King.
