July Archmage Tournament

Greetings, patrons of Twilight Isle!

It's once again time for the Archmage Tournament to decide who will get a shot at the highest title in the Duel of Magic! The winner of this tournament gets to challenge the reigning Archmage, Sivanna Cyredghymn!

It will take place on Wednesday, July 7th, at 9:00 PM RDT. All Magi and Magi Emeriti are permitted to enter. The format will be determined based on the number of participants. Byes, if necessary, will be awarded according to the Ring of Klytus rankings. Topaz will be officiating.

Please post your registrations as replies to this corkboard thread. And keep an eye on it too, in case of changes.

Vincent Smith won the Archmage Tournament and will be facing current Archmage Sivanna Cyredghymn tonight at 9:30 PM RDT.

[DUEL Topaz]

The tournament was dueled in round robin format.

Round 1: Vinny def. Lem 5.5-3 in 9 rounds
Round 2: Harris def. Lem 5-2 in 8 rounds
Round 3: Vinny def. Harris 5-3.5 in 12 rounds

The overall winner, Vinny, and the reigning Arch Mage Sivanna will meet at 9:30 pm est on Twilight Isle on the evening of 8 July, with Lem officiating.

On the evening of July 8th, Vincent Smith did press challenge to Archmage Sivanna Cyredghymn to gain the right to the Celestial Tower and the powers that come with it. The Archmage chose to use Ring Olympus for the challenge. From beneath the chosen ring, a rumbling overtook the Isle. A thunderous sound preceded the mountain that burst forth, rising just above all of the other rings as the ground around the peak dropped deep into the earth, creating a mountain’s depth all around the ring and casting an ethereal, celestial light across the others. Clouds and thunder, lightning and wild tempests surrounded the ring and filled the pit where earth, air, fire, and water all came into being and played a part in the overpowering forces that the Archmage and her challenger clashed with. Endless tiny, faintly lit stars floated listlessly across the battleground of Olympus.

The first match started with Vinny taking an early lead of 1.5-0 after 2 rounds. The duelists traded back and forth for several rounds with Vinny maintaining a narrow lead over the Archmage. In round 6 Vinny led 3-1.5, and that was the last time the score was ever separated by more than one point. Sivanna was able to slowly work her way back to finally matching Vinny in round 13 when she mind whipped Vinny trying to fade into a ghost form. The score was 4.5 all, and this was the first time the duelists had been tied. Sivanna went back on defense in round 14, but she displaced right into the middle of Vinny’s arctic blast which secured the win for him. Vinny never trailed throughout the first match and won with a score of 5.5-4.5 in 14 rounds.

The second match started with Vinny trailing for the first time as Sivanna mind whipped Vinny’s attempt at a fear touch. Vinny came right back and tied the match at 1 all in round 2 and then took the lead in round 3. Sivanna kept the match close and tied the score at 3 all in round 5 with an immolation that melted Vinny’s wizard blades. Sivanna took the lead in round 7, but we saw another lead change in round 10 when Vinny scored an advance to make the score 4-3.5. Sivanna then shielded against Vinny’s mage bolt to tie the score for the 4th time in this match. The score was 4-4 going into the 12th round. This duel had never seen a lead of more than 1 full point, and was now in a sudden death situation just like the first match. Sivanna went back on the defensive as she faded out in a ghostform, but Vinny mindwhipped through her defense for the point and win! Vinny won the second match with a score of 5-4 after 12 rounds.

Having secured 2 matches in a best of 3 challenge, Vincent Smith becomes the new Archmage and Celestial Keeper of the Duel of Magic! Congratulations to Vinny, and a fine reign by Sivanna!
