I had the great fortune of being able to officiate yet another dynamite Archmage Challenge! Do you wanna hear about it? Do ya? Do ya do ya do ya? Okay, here I go!
It was two-time Keeper and long-time duelist Soerl Lute up against Sivanna Cyredghymn, who won all of her titles on her first attempts. This was a match of experience vs talent! Who was gonna win?!
The first duel was very heavily in Sivanna's favor. She had a tie at half all in the second round, but from then on, never gave up the lead. Turning Soerl's ray into a freezie pop and summoning good old Bahamut to scare the bolt out of him gave her a solid lead in round six, 3 - 0.5. Soerl fought his way up to 2.5 with some defensive tactics and a ghostly mind-freak in round nine. But that was as far as he would get. Bahamut fired his lazor to thwart Soerl's scare attempt, and then froze Soerl into his armor to end the duel 5 - 2.5 in 11 rounds.
The second duel was then very heavily in Soerl's favor. Sivanna started off with a half-point lead in the first round by shielding her mind from invasion, but Soerl edged ahead by freezing Sivanna into her armor, revenge for the way the last duel ended. Sivanna tied it up by ghosting through Soerl's meteors, but that was as close as she was going to get. That was round four. From that point on, Soerl started running away with it. By round seven, Soerl was already at match point, 4 - 1. The very next round, he snuffed Sivanna's flames with meteors to make it 4.5 - 1. The situation looked very bleak for Sivanna here. But she wasn't going down without a fight. She fought her way up to 3.5 points by round 13, with moves that were both gutsy and wise. As valiant a comeback as it was, this was not meant to be a two-duel challenge. Soerl shut her down by whisking the thoughts of lacerations from her mind to end it 5.5 - 3.5 in 14.
And thus, we were on to the final duel. Unlike the last two duels, Sivanna started out with a full point lead. Soerl tried to start this duel the same way the last one ended, with a mind whip, but Sivanna's bolt overpowered it and struck first. She fought her way to 2.5 - 0 in round three. But Soerl didn't plan on going down without a fight, and unleashed a nether ray through Sivanna's fog to get on the board. The next round--and I can't think about this without snickering because it reminds me of the ART--was a double reflection. That put us at 3.5 - 2 and forced us to wait until round seven while they got lost in infinite recursive reflectivity. Soerl made her forget how to cut things again to reduce the gap to a half point, but Sivanna made it a full one by ghosting through Soerl's armor. Soerl then shot a ray through the fog again to tie it up... at 4 all. Sudden death. They then both scared the crap out of each other to tie it at 5 all! This one was a nailbiter! Sivanna managed to take an edge by fogging up the ring and giving Soerl's mind whip nowhere to go, thus putting it at 5.5 - 5. ...And in the end, talent won out over experience! She sealed the deal, by scaring the meteors out of Soerl, ending the final duel 6.5 - 5 in 13 rounds!
Sivanna Cyredghymn remains the Archmage and Celestial Keeper of the Duel of Magic! Congratulations on your first defense, Sivanna! Well tried, Soerl, and congratulations on winning the Archmage Tournament!
