The Honeymoon

Getting Away

Gavilean and Des Starfare said goodnight to Brian, comforting him with the promise that they would fine a way to cure Charlotte.

The royal carriage was waiting for them by the stable, to take them to Westridge and then to Pine Ridge Castle. They could not take a portal to the castle since, for security reasons, there was only one portal that opened within Westridge, and that was always well guarded and located within Arda Castle in the capital city of Westridge. They would soon find much use for that portal, but not on their honeymoon.

The large carriage, pulled by six horses, left downtown RhyDin through the Dragon’s Gate and headed west. The two newlyweds were finally alone with none of the pressures and obligations that came when they were in the city.

The last several weeks had been very tiring for Gav and Des, especially for Des as she handled the wedding invitations, dealt with all the Westridge assistants including Miss Partinger, took care of flowers her gown and most of the other preparations. Even with the help of so many servants, to make so many preparations in such a short time was stressful. Gavilean had to attend the affairs of the kingdom while in the midst of wedding preparations, so he was also very relieved that the wedding and coronation was behind them.

Gavilean put his arm around Des and drew her close to him as the carriage traveled westward through the night. Hugs turned to kisses, kisses to exploratory touches, and those touches brought the fire of passion that led to amazingly sensual lovemaking upon the soft, large cushioned seats of the carriage – seats that were designed to pull out into beds.

They made love for hours; then naked, warm, perspiration-glistened, sweet-smelling bodies fell asleep in each other’s arms, and to the soothing motion of the gentle swaying of the carriage.

The carriage entered the borders of Westridge just before sunrise. Then continued along the Weston Highway for another twenty miles before turning northwest on a much smaller road that led to the mountain region of the Great Pine Forest in eastern Westridge.

As the sun rose in the east, the carriage continued to climb in altitude along a forest road that twisted its way through deeply forested terrain. A cool morning fog rose from the forest floor with the scent of the pine and forest strong and refreshing. The carriage continued deeper into the forest and traveled along a river for a few miles before crossing over though a covered bridge.

The sun had already been up for two hours when the carriage road onto the bluestoned path that led up to the front of Pine Ridge Castle.

PINE RIDGE CASTLE

Gavilean and Des had dressed in the privacy of the carriage and then exited and stretched in the cool, fragrant, refreshing air of Pine Ridge Castle. The castle was small by Westridge standards. It had only forty rooms, but then it was only intended to be used as a royal retreat and a hunting “lodge” for the royal family and other dignitaries. What it lacked in size it more than made up for in style and comfort.

Servants greeted the King and Queen of Westridge at the door of the castle. There was a small crew of fifteen servants on duty to make sure that the king and queen were taken care of. Gav and Des walked up two marble steps to the opened oaken door with elfin script in a semi-circle overhead.

The foyer was elegant with marble floors, dark wood panels, a grand chandelier, and several statues, paintings and heads of mule deer, bear, fox, elk, and other game that had been hunted in past decades. A reasonably large library was off to the left. To the right were the sitting room, a smoking room, and a solarium. Further to the rear of the castle was the dining room (on the left) and the kitchen (directly to the rear). A marble staircase was directly before them.

Gavilean led Des up the carpeted stairs. At the head of the stairs was the master suite which had always (at least for the last four centuries since the castle was built) been reserved for the royal family. It had an eastern view with lace-covered French doors that lead out to a large balcony. The suite had a large canopied bed, sitting room, bath, walk-in closets and furniture designed for comfort and relaxing. It was carpeted with woolen carpets with scenes of hunting. Other large bedrooms were on the second floor. Smaller bedrooms were on the third floor and the servants quarters were on the forth floor with the exception of the head cook’s room and the chief valet’s room, both of which were in the back on the first floor.

Tall pines surround the castle except for the lawn that is directly out the back. The lawn had been used for crochet and lawn parties in years past. There is a stable on the castle grounds and Gavilean had arranged for two horses to be there along with a stable hand to take care of them. Not far from the castle was a small lake surrounded by trees and a stoned well where a river fed a small waterfall. From the lake flowed a river which was soon fed by other rivers, so that it became deep and wide only a mile from the castle.

Gavilean opened the French doors of the master sweet and led Des out onto the balcony. Another deep breath of the cool, morning, pine-scented air was taken. He turned and took Des into his arms. “We’re here my love…my wife; just the two of us with nothing to do for several days but enjoy each other. Maybe we should extend our honeymoon by another week.” He smiled a most handsome smile and brought his mouth to hers in a kiss that would last the remainder of the morning.
