X-MEN 3 (Spoiler Alert)

Post by Anjolie Quinn »

So... this is my rant.

I went to see X-Men 3 and felt betrayed.

Not only were they promising Jubilation Lee and Gambit for this movie... they decided to take matters into their own hands and completely change the storyline.

What's worse is that the X-Men creator was actually involved in the freaking film!

HE KNEW!!! HE made it so that the fans would loose all hope of happy endings.

Whose idea was it to kill off Scott, kill off Xavier, make Rogue lose her powers, and bring in that stupid Kitty character from the freaking British series? They must be shot!!!!

That is all.

It's a comic book movie. They all suck now. Wait until they finally make Watchmen. I'm throwing myself off a bridge.

Kitty was originally one of the X-men (before moving to Xcalibur). That's where she got her start. I was glad to see her in the movie.

I was just as happy not to see Gambit.

Were you expecting them to follow the SL from the comics? If so, they messed that up from movie 1.

I thought they stayed fairly true to the characters (if not the SL) within the movies.

1) The actor who played Cyclops indicated that he didn't want to do any more films.

2) As for Xavier... did you stay until after the credits? :D If you didn't, you missed something important things!

3) Jake already got the "Kitty Pryde" situation.

4) Doing the whole Shi'ar Empire/Dark Pheonix saga would have been way too off-the-wall for the way they appear to be dealing with the X-men universe in the movies.

5) Jubilee? Bleh... but she might fit in well in the 4th movie. Gambit? Yick... I agree with Jake here. I'm glad they killed him off in the X-men Unlimited comic universe.

I haven't seen it, yet, but one of my friends said, "you MUST stay until the very end." I wonder how many people miss important parts of a film because they don't wait?

Stan Lee may have created the X-men, but the real credit goes to all of the different storyline writers and artists (I'd name the ones that impressed me, but my comic book trivia has slid downhill since I stopped collecting once the comics hit $2.50 each. John Byrne is one of the first names that I can remember) over the years who have kept it interesting. There's no way that a two-hour movie about a superhero team is going to compare with that. Granted, they did do an excellent job with the Spider-Man films, but the X-men have a much more complicated history to try and communicate in the short span of time alotted in a film.

Ok, now that I've been to see the movie and had my ear bent on X-men lore by my household, here goes:

IMDB.com lists Kea Wong as Jubilation Lee/Jubilee in the cast list for X-2 and X-3. It's possible that Jubilee's scene(s), like the death of Saruman in ROTK, was cut from the film.

Also from IMDB.com:
Josh Holloway was offered the role of Gambit, but turned it down because the character was too similar to his character on "Lost" (2004). As a result, the character was never added to the film since this would have been a special cameo put in later had Josh decided to sign on.

No body was shown as being found for Scott, so he might not be dead. Just like someone else that dies... mythology says much, I think.

Xavier... like Karen said... after the credits. However, I will add this... his ethics lesson, remember his last question before dismissing class..

As for Rogue losing her powers.. .keep in mind the source for her loss of powers as well as how it worked. Magneto's last scene just before the credits roll gives a hint that might be missed. It's a very subtle thing, but it's there.

Kitty Pryde has actually been in all three X-men movies, just not this one. In X-1, she's the one that returns to retrieve a notebook, is called by name by Xavier, and walks out of the room through the closed door.

Yeah, I didn't stay either. I hate it whenever they do that. Anywho, as for my comments on Kitty... I just really prefer Jublilation Lee to her and I did understand that she was part of the earlier sequence.

I know the first two movies took some liberties and I caught the hint with Magneto at the end of the film. I was just a little taken aback at how it all fell together.

On a final note, I love Hugh Jackman and he is one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood in my opinion.

Any true comic reader knows that no hero/villian stays dead forever. They can't make money off of them if they're dead.

Sadly, this tends to be true. One of my major disappointments with American comics. It trivializes death.

I think sticking things at the end of credits is becoming more common. They did it with one of the Shrek movies and you could tell who watched until the very end and who didn't.

Hugh Jackman is great! He can do just about anything they throw at him. Kelsey Grammer, after watching him as the rather sedate Frazier over the years, was a very pleasant surprise in the role of Beast.

You're kidding, right? Hugh Jackman plays pretty much the same character in every movie he's in. The gruff tough guy with a heart. :P
