The shiny new black leather bound book was staring at her along with the brand-new pen she had bought yesterday. The promise she had made to herself ringing in her ears she headed for the desk and sank down onto the chair to make use of both.

“This time I am really, truly, honest, for certain, sure, going to do this every day.”

Cracking it open to the first page she set pen to paper and began to write . . .

I HATE YOU!!!!! You are full of blank pages and I will forget to write in you. I know it as surely as I am sitting here writing in you right now. You are scum of the earth and will become the bane of my existence before you and I are through. I should throw you in the trash right now and be done with you but I made a promise, again, so I’m gonna try and keep you this time.


Leaning back she eyes what she has written and frowns. “I don’t think this is a very good start. Maybe if I go downstairs and get some coffee that would help.” Convinced she has figured out the problem she happily closes the brand-new journal and heads for the common room with a smile on her face and a bounce in her step.
