Question
I'm posting this here since it can involve all the sports.
Serious question, obviously directed toward those it applies to.
Why aren't you calling a weekly shift?

I've been on leave for various reasons. Biggest being that I held a calling shift steadily for a year and a half and it was just not fun.
So here's another question.
How many of you callers out there, who are there every single week, enjoy doing it?
Being an official is one of the most thankless things you can do around here, even moreso now than ever. I can't tell you how many times I simply sign on and there's a duel request shoved in my face.
Taking something from the DoS OOC thread here and I know it's nearly the same topic though I think this has more to do with officiating than roleplay. People are wondering why anyone would want to be a caller if there was a bot capable of doing it.
But nobody wants to call as it is...so why shouldn't we have the bot?

I disagree. I love calling. I became a caller almost as soon as I was old enough to under AOL rules. I loved it then and I love it more now. I find that the vast majority of players are polite and appreciative of my time. But nobody wants to call as it is...so why shouldn't we have the bot?
Why shouldn't we have a bot? Because callers should be about more than just calls. They monitor rooms, they encourage roleplay, they create an environment. This community is nothing without the environment that it creates. Bots will hurt that environment.
I really think everybody should take a step back. This has been a problem every summer that I have been a caller. People simply find better things to do in the summer or the college/high school students get jobs that require them to work weekend nights. It is wrong for us to expect high school and college students to be reliable at something that they are not getting paid to do. They should be out having a life and goofing off.
If a caller doesn't show, it's not the end of the world. Change over to your DUEL screenname and give back a little. If you're bored, that's your fault. Do something to create some drama. Make a calling character that's a complete nut job. We make our own fun here -- in both calling and dueling.

I enjoy calling. I don't currently have a regular shift, because for a while my work schedule wasn't conducive to it, then when my schedule changed our spots were supposed to be filled. Now that neither of those seem to be the case I'll be calling more. When there are people there, it can be fun, and when there aren't any people there it's not hard to keep the window open while I find other things to do with that time in case someone shows. There are days when I'd rather be doing other things, but it's something that I enjoy. Plus even when I don't want to be doing it it's a necessary evil. I figure I've been calling for as long as callers have not been AOL Community leaders.. so around two years now? Either way there is no way that I'm even close to calling more matches than I've fought so I still owe.

I called for what seemed like a year. I always enjoyed calling and had much fun. My biggest thing was time...It just got to where I didn't have time anymore.
If I ever am able to come back and duel regularly...I would consider calling. again.
