A return...

Post by Cara deWinters »

She had been gone for a good while. Yet business had brought her back. It was disturbing to see that much of what she once held in the city had fallen into disrepair, and even more disturbing to see that other buildings of hers were no longer standing.

They had been replaced by a temple. A new temple, and in the Old Temple District. This, perhaps, could prove to be interesting, and profitable.

First, there was the matter of gaining the residence and buildings she needed.

Thus, she turned to the City Hall and began the tedious task of buying the buildings around the temple.

The matter of obtaining the buildings that had surrounded the new Temple was a tedious one. With luck, the City would finalize the sales of those properties within the week. Then the true work would begin in remodeling and the new construction.

With the matter of the buildings underway, she turned her attention back to her business and her passion…horses. She had already requested that her stock be shipped to her, post haste, and in her terms, that meant yesterday.

That they hadn’t arrived yet troubled her a bit, but in a way, it was a good thing. She would need to procure a place for them to stay as well. Now that the city dwellings were in full swing, and in truth, almost taken care of, she made her way out towards the country side. It was a matter now of finding the right land… land preferably close to the coast.

Horses were not the only thing she dealt in…

Her meeting with the Baroness had gone as she had expected. The Baroness was one who did not like competition, and if there was competition in sight, she was one who would keep that competition close in sight. Perhaps something could be arranged where both would profit from their new-found relation.

She had taken the Baroness up on her offer for aid in looking for land that overlooked the bay, and in truth, the gentleman who was provided did seem to know the lay of the land quite well. She would remember this kindness.

Having chosen the land which she wished to purchase, she had made her way back to the city and once more placed her bid for the land in question with the City Hall. With the final contracts underway for her buildings surrounding the city, she finally let herself relax a little.

Yet, that relaxation would not last. The elf which had boldly approached the table the other night had mentioned much concerning other entrances into the buildings which she had recently purchased. It was time to look into these, and perhaps enlist the aid of this elf.

Caitlin BloodRoze had been in and around Rhy'din for many years. Most of the first few had been spent tending to the Guild Tavern she had built up and even expanded. The next few years had seen a decline in business.

It was the last few years that even Caitlin had drifted fromher duties at the Tavern. The maintenance and upkeep would eventually be too much for her to handle on her infrequent visits. There had been too much history there. The last year or so, she hadn't even bothered to return more than a handful of times.

One day she had overheard people talking, in one of the many pubs she had drifted in and out, about how a place called, City Hall, handled many things having to do with buildings.

On the day she decided to go, she had finished just as another female human had entered. Caitlin didn't get the information she was looking for but was given some odds and ends sort of things to do and to return when she had completed the packet of paperwork she was given. As she left, Caitlin would glance to that other woman.

In Rhy'din, where there was no majority of one race or another, when one saw someone of their own race they tended to remember. Well, at least Caitlin would remember the lady.

The next time she would see her would again be at the City Hall. This time, however, it was Caitlin that was about to enter when she witnessed the lady exiting. By the expression on her face, Caitlin assumed she had gotten her answers. . . .a mental note was made . . Caitlin would seek her out. . .later. . .

I'd sent my solicitor to the Dutchess in expectation that he could help her find the properties she sought. The Dutchess was astute, and I find myself liking her way of speaking. I have no doubt she is used to Court intrigues and can handle herself well. It is my intention to foster a working relationship with her if at all possible.

An elf named Joku Shoyia introduced himself to Cara and I with claims to know passages in and out of her new purchases. If the buildings around the Temple are interconnected, I wonder if the Temple has connections to surrounding structures that even they do not realize are there?

Most of the connections were underground. Caitlin had stumbled upon some of those paths in buildings about a block from where the Temple was. Whether or not they connected to the Temple would most likely require a scout or possible even a drow or other underworld dweller. Cait never dared the underground without a scout.

Though when she had left City Hall that morning, she ventured over to the buildings that had recently been purchased. Indeed, she was curious and certianly if she were curious, she knew of others that would share her interest.

It had been a busy few weeks. The construction to the new ranch house had begun, as had the work to the town house. She was quite pleased with the way things were moving along. Though, the matter of the town houses tunnels were still a matter which she would need to investigate. That, however, could wait a little bit longer. She knew she had drawn attention with the purchasing of those properties, and she was curious as to see what the outcome of those curiosities would be.

Then there was the matter of the trip to Rigel. She had made it clear that she would be accompanying the Marchioness to her home to help ease the burden of the pressures of the court. She had heard that a lady by the name of Koyliak VanDuran was the one to see about a new wardrobe.

Perhaps it would be best to get a few things made for court. After all, a lady does need to impress royalty.

Turning from the work being done to the ranch house, she motioned to Duncan. “Let us make our way into town. I have a desire to shop.”

Caitlin made a point of finishing her little investigation before returning to the streets. She hadn't thought of what she would do afterwards. Though when she appeared on the streets, it was much later in the day than she had anticipated. How she hated losing track of time. She didn't see the new owner anywhere and figured this would be the best time to scavenger around and make sure that if there was anything of any value, she could either snatch it up or make a mental inventory for later.

Fate knew she preferred the challenges that "later" usually brought. Re-entering through the front this time, she would make her way around the temple's rooms. A mental note was made of the layout. Then she would find one of the underground tunnels. . .choosing not to proceed further at that time, she would check the windows and then when she was done, she would leave the exact way she had entered.

Stepping back out onto the street she would make her way down the path and find the main street with the market place. There was much to be done during this day.
