And this continues to move closer and closer to the old peer win system.
I agree with this, though likely not for the reason it was stated.

Once we start requiring wins, the next argument down the logical path is that not all wins are created equal and some warlords are hunting commoners to achieve their quota. The argument has already been made in the preceding pages of this thread.

The desire is for a show of activity. Activity in and of itself does not mean winning. It means being in attendance in the arena and getting in the rings.

A simple duel count accomplishes that.
I agree with this sentiment. All duels are equal as no matter the outcome, it would count. All wins however are not equal. The Wins SoA system opens itself up to lower ranked abuse by upper ranks. That seems painfully obvious to me. If dueling and defeating a Commoner is worth the same as dueling and defeating a Warlord... What are people going to do? Lean toward dueling the person they have the biggest advantage over.

I'd prefer to see peer wins over any of these ideas. But I think the idea that has the best chance for long term survival is the Duels SoA. Any system with numbers is flexible and a cyclic cap doesn't seem necessary in my mind.

Long story short.

People generally fall into two areas.

Lazy.

and

B*tchy.

Give them an excuse to be either and they will.

I don't see a need to limit challenges.

If someone starts to abuse the system, then characters will begin to see that IC, so they will run into more problems in finding duels, getting challenges scheduled quickly, tests of worthiness and so on. We don't have people challenging week after week as it is, so it seems that would only happen if a character decided to try it, or if a player wanted to try to be a jerk.

I don't like the idea of requiring wins. Activity is enough.

Once you start counting wins, warlords who want to beat up lower ranks could be a serious problem to new duelers. Sure, a commoner may expect to get fancied to death, but if it happens too much then that's no fun.

Hell, one of the reasons I don't really do DoF is because when I first tried it, I was continually fancied and feinted to death. So I quit because it wasn't fun and it seemed I would never move up the ranks. And even if things have changed, I'm still hesitant to go there because of that bad experience.

You want to avoid any reason for Warlords to pick on lower ranks.
