Tonight was a stellar night on Twilight Isle, and it was my honor and privilege to be chosen to officiate the challenge between Mairead Harker, champion of the Archmage Tournament, and Mallory Maeda, Archmage of the Duel of Magic!
We got to see Olympus come to life, and witnessed a grand total of three complete duels! Mallory brought along a construct proxy friend made from something I can only imagine as celestial! They fought on her behalf in the ring, and we later learned their name is Starglass! We have also confirmed that they enjoy hugs, so if you see them don’t hesitate to offer!
In match number one, Mallory grabbed the immediate lead. Maggie tied things up in the second round, but soon after the Archwitch jumped into a tremendous lead that she refused to let go of. Young Miss Harker banked another point for herself, but by the seventh round Mallory blasted her way to the top with a sound victory of 5 to 2.
The second match turned out differently. Though once again Mallory started off with a solid lead, this time Maggie managed to work her way back to a tie in the fifth round at three each. She snagged the lead for herself in the very next round. Her hold on it was tenuous for a few more rounds, with Mallory working the score back to a half point margin. They brought us to a five point SUDDEN DEATH in round eight, but by the ninth Maggie managed to secure herself a 6 to 5 victory.
This brought us to the final, deciding fight of the night! Our combatants both scored the opening points on each other. Mallory took the lead in the second round and extended it in the third. By round four, Maggie started making a comeback. Only by the seventh round was she able to cut the margin down to only a full point lead in Mallory’s favor. In the end, the Archwitch secured herself a final victory of 5.5 to 3.5 in the eighth and final round thanks to an impressive display of polka perfection by her construct Starglass!
