Incredibles

That movie was pretty damn sweet too.

Another great graphical interface with a cool story and lots of silly style.

Dash was the best character in the whole movie. :) I thoroughly enjoyed it, myself.

Saw it last night. It was really good!

This flick seriously lives up to the hype, and then some. Forget the cool animation, this movie has a slick plot, great characters and lots of character development. Ya know, its like, a real story!

Wake up, Hollywood, and learn from Pixar.

The smartest thing Walt Disney Inc did to stay in the animation business was acquire Pixar. Its odd to see Walt Disney dod an animation movie that had a lot of sci-fi elements to it.

If any of you were Comic Book dorks when you were growing up, I wonder if anyone noticed the same thing that I did about The Incredibles(it made me love it even more, from the start.)

It's totally a semi-kids version of the best graphic novel/book-series of all-time.... The Watchmen.

Anyone else get this? Anyone else even read/heard of The Watchmen?

Actually, I thought it was more along the lines of the Fantasic Four.

Mr Incredible was obviously The Thing
Elasti-Girl was Reed Richards
Violet was Susan Richards.
Dash was the only one different in that he was more like the Flash than the Human Torch.

I never read Watchmen, heard of them, but never had the pleasure of reading. What were the powers of those guys?

Now, I'm not really critizising their choices, because I really loved the movie and thought it was great. But I wouldn't be surprised to have Marvel Comics suddenly start screaming about the stolen ideas. Which I doubt because then people would start complaining about other heroes stolen powers ideas from other comics and all. Heh.

Rorshach was just frickin' scary.

The Watchmen was a comic who's concept was originally taken from the Charlton Comics heroes that DC had purchased, namely: The Question, Blue Beetle & Captain Atom. (And a few others who's names I can't recall.)

DC decided that they wanted to use Blue Beetle & Captain Atom in the Justice League, and the writer of Batman at the time had some ideas for The Question, so the concept was turned down.

Eventually, the story was rewritten with characters specifically created for it... who still had many similarities to the Charlton heroes. There was Rorsharch (sp?) who had a black & white facemask that the black parts would move around based upon temperature and such. The mask looked like the ink-blots used in the Rorsharch (sp?) tests (you know, the "what do you see when you look at this?" test). The character had no true super powers, but was like a cruel Batman. Owlman (based on Blue Beetle) had an Owlship (like Blue Beetle) and a number of "Owl" gadgets (like Blue Beetle) and again, no super powers. There was the Captain Atom type character who's name I can't recall. He had atomic powers, could duplicate himself, etc.

Lastly, there was Ozymandius. I don't know what, if any, Charlton hero he was based upon. Basically he was a super-genius. He invented super-rediculous technology and improved the world.

Can't say anymore without giving away the whole story (and without re-reading it myself :D ).

The Blue Beetle is my favorite comic character ever! I loved him in Justice League, and he was great alongside Booster Gold.

The plot of The Watchmen is what I thought The Incredibles was a kids version re-write of - not so much the characters, some of which were definitely taken from Fantasic Four. Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastick most assuredly.

But yeah, The Watchmen had the greatest plot of any graphic novel I've ever read, so recognizing parts of it used in The Incredibles just made me like the movie even more.
