The 2024 Governor’s Ball

On the evening of Saturday, June 1st, Governor Gatito Lindo invites all citizens of Rhy’Din to join him for the annual Governor’s Ball. This year, the ball takes place at The Seaglass Hotel, with festivities beginning at 8 o’clock Rhy’Din Time (Eastern). The evening’s theme is inspired by the impending summer season, a certain mermaid lady, and the splendor of La Mer, herself.

The Seaglass Hotel is an impressive feat of merfolk magic and ingenuity. Its multi-tiered structure appears to be growing from the side of one of the tall cliffs that border the coastline north of Seaside Beach, and on this evening, its exterior is lit with dazzling purples, blues, and greens that mimic the natural bioluminescence of some of the native sea life.

To heighten the evening’s magic and help guests sink more deeply into the Electric Sea, certain hotel staff members are on hand to paint faces and other ares of exposed skin with bioluminescent paint. The aquatic designs they paint glow once guests reach the hotel’s opulent grand ball room, which is draped in sea-soaked twilight.

Here, the colors, lighting, and decor combine to give the impression that guests are underwater. Illusions and projections of underwater creatures swim through the near-darkness, echoing the very real sea life that can be found in carefully-lit water features situated throughout the ballroom. There’s even one set into the ceiling itself, offering guests a glimpse into what is quite literally another world.

A talented DJ is positioned near the windows in the far wall, back to the horizon while they spin their own custom mix of popular favorites, classic tunes, and hypnotic beats. The glass dance floor is lit from beneath and projections of sting rays, jellyfish, and other denizens of the deep keep time with the music.

And when guests are not dancing and mingling, they are invited to partake of the lavish spread designed by the Governor and catered by Seaglass staff. The evening’s menu is filled with chilled seafood, tantalizing delicacies and small plates, luxurious desserts, and a selection of hand-crafted cocktails and mocktails.

Guests who require a quieter atmosphere are invited to steal away to the Seaglass Hotel’s Lagoon Lounge, which features a full bar and a saltwater pool. And for the convenience of those who wish to keep the party going all night, the Governor has reserved several of the hotel’s rooms.

The live event will take place in the #seaside-beach channel on the Rings of Discord server, on Saturday, 1 June 2024, beginning at 8 PM EDT and continuing until the last person leaves. Gatito wore a bespoke ball gown with delicate embroidery and intricate frills meant to mimic underwater plant life and fish fins.

Amaris arrived much more quiet then she usually was, it was this dressing up that had her quiet. She always hated wearing dresses but now at 16 she was starting to like having the opportunity to do it but that battle was one she was fighting in her head. Seeing her friends definitly helped her calm down and after a few deep breaths she started to relax and have a ball.

Phen and Ebon arrived with a turquoise theme.

[Delahada]

Salvador Delahada was present to support his consort, the Governor Gatito Lindo. Though he spent the entire evening holding up a wall and people-watching for the most part, he was also seen in the company of his beloved Rekah Illyriana and their mutual friend Kruger "The Anvil" Allen. He wore shades of blue and black to complement his companions' beautiful dresses, unknowingly channeling the style of a famous person of Earth.

Rand and Val made an appearance, of course, wearing their best oceanic finery. They danced, they ate, of course, and Val was only prevented from monopolizing the mind that inspired the menu by the fact that the Governor was hosting and it would not be polite. A small doggy bag (only half-literally) would be selected with care for Matt and Juliet (and Lumiere and Cosette), with much effusive appreciation to the staff for all their hard work. Rest assured that there would be a note, along with some truffles, delivered to Gatito's office the next day, with thanks, and appreciation for the wonderful evening.

Fancy dress wasn't usually Yasmin's vibe, unless she was working - but the weeks since her arrival had been the calmest she'd had in a long time, and since it was the Governor who had had a hand in that, showing up was the least she could do. The odd jobs she'd picked up here and there didn't quite allow for the kind of gowns that surrounded her, but being a poor performer had its benefits. Repurposing a costume from some party or other, she attracted a little attention on the dancefloor, before following the crowd to the absolutely sumptuous buffet. Full and weaving just a little, Yas gave gratitude to Gatito, and headed out as the party was winding down.
