Those who wish to become Monarch of May must first hunt down a piece of one of the nine sacred woods: birch, rowan, ash, alder, willow, hawthorn, oak, holly, or hazel. Upon this piece of wood, they must then cast their name by whatever means they wish: by carving it into its flesh, by the gift of magic, or by simply attaching a scrap of paper.
The journey to the clearing where the Fire Lighting Ceremony will take place is warm and bright with the promise of spring: crocuses, daffodils, bluebells, and forget-me-nots line the path and dappled sunlight drifts through the newly opened leaves above.
A large clearing stands at the end of the path, with druids bustling around a growing collection of stout boughs of the same sacred wood for the great bonfire of Beltane. They direct newcomers to a nearby altar of mossy stone with a silver basin in the center. Here the sticks with the names of would-be Monarchs are stacked, awaiting the night of the Ceremony. Only then will the sticks be fed into the basin, and the everlasting flame wrought within will ignite into a brazier that produces the name of the Monarch of May.
And it is from this fire that the great bonfire and all the others will be lit with the blessing of Beltane's chosen Monarch.

New title, new rules. The May Queen is old news and the Monarch of May is the hip new title everyone can vie for. Please note:
- People can submit their own character name or someone else's by posting to this thread.
- The opportunity to become the Monarch is open to everyone regardless of whether they’ve been May Queen in the past on any character.
- The Monarch of May must be present on April 29th in order to be in the running and chosen at the beginning of the Beltane fire lighting ceremony.
- A name will be chosen from the list submitted via dice roll in the Green Room and announced live before the character is crowned.
- We ask that people do not submit more than two alts per player.
- More nominations do not equal more chances of winning. Every name will have an equal chance of being chosen whether nominated once or twenty times.
