Drawn by the promise of coin that flows easily from many RhyDinian pockets, a guild known as the Fortunate Society of Dealers has set up shop across the realm. They have staked out tables at bars known for their shady reputation, including the Stars End Bar, the Last Chance Saloon, and the Red Dragon Inn. There is a price in gold for each attempt to best them, but the prize isn't money:
It's an electrum poker chip, octagonal, minted by dwarven artisans, each stamped with the face of an ancient king and inscribed with angular grooves like circuits, too tiny to be seen by the naked human eye. Virtually impossible to reproduce, the chips can be exchanged with "friends" of the Society for their services. They include veteran informants, spies, thieves, assassins, explorers and treasure hunters. While they can be found in many places, the easiest way to contract them is through RhyDin's Underground or Stars End's Undercity.
The exact origins of the chips are unknown. Rumors swirl about high-stakes games between the first rulers of the now-fallen Eastern Dominion. There are also tales of ruins and tombs scattered in distant places - the Deep Wilds, Battlefield Park, the Great Desert - that will open if one can find where to place the chip, revealing magitek vaults that may contain treasures, secrets, traps and guardians.
Why the dealers are gambling away these chips now, with all of their potential, they aren't telling. But it's a safe bet that the Fortunate Society sees itself coming out ahead in these games.
The above settings are recommended places to interact with the dealers, contractors who will accept the chips, and ruins that will open to them. Below are games that you can play in the #green-room and that do not require a host to play! While I encourage our hosts to use this as a theme, any community member can play these games alone or with others.
Cards are represented by dice values from 1-13. Ace is 1, numbered cards are 2-10, 11 is Jack, 12 is Queen, and 13 is King. When rolling for the suit, 1 is Clubs, 2 is Diamonds, 3 is Hearts, and 4 is Spades.
Any game may be attempted as many times as the player wants in one sitting. Once they win, the dealer will give them an electrum chip, and while they will be willing to compete with other players, they will not play with a winning player again until the next day at the earliest.
Cut the Middle
The dealer draws two cards with the command /roll (dice 2) (sides 13). If the cards only have a difference of 1 (for example, 10 and 11), the player automatically loses. If the cards have the same value, the dealer automatically loses. Otherwise, play proceeds. The player draws a card with the command /roll (dice 1) (sides 13). If the result is between the value of the dealer's cards (for example, the dealer has 2 and 11; the player gets 3), the player wins. Otherwise, the player loses.
Kill the King
The dealer and the player each pick a suit. Use the command /roll (dice 1) (sides 4) to determine the suit, dealer first, and continue to roll until there is a different suit for the dealer and player. The one with the highest-number (highest-ranked) suit draws first. Each draw uses the commands /roll (dice 1) (sides 13) and /roll (dice 1) (sides 4) to determine your card’s value and suit. The first to draw the Two, Jack, Queen, or King from their opponent’s suit, any Ace, or a King from either of the two unchosen suits, wins. Drawing your own Jack or Two is an automatic loss.
Even Odds
This game is inspired by the dice game Cho-Han. The dealer shuffles the deck while the player decides Even or Odd. Then the dealer draws, using the command /roll (dice 1) (sides 13). If the result is a face card (11, 12, or 13), use the command /roll (dice 1) (sides 4) to determine the suit. The player wins if they chose the correct value (odd or even) for the drawn number card, or if the face card’s suit number is the correct value. For example, the player calls Odd. If the dealer rolls an 8, the player loses, because that is a numbered card with an even value. If the dealer rolls a 12, and then a 3 for the suit, the player wins because that is a face card with an odd-numbered suit. The player must win this game twice in a row to be considered a full win and earn a chip.
If your character has won one of the card games with a dealer - who can be played by anyone, including you - post the results here or PM me or DM me on Discord at Miskatonic09#8031 and I will send you an Electrum Chip item. Have an idea for a game, or something else for this event? Reach out to me or another member of RP Team and share!
Depending on interest and engagement, Electrum Chips may be used for a future event.

Vesper Lybell — Today at 10:17 PM
"Okay," Vesper reaches for the pack with a lean and draws a card.
"A six!"
"What do I win?"
Anya de la Rose — Today at 10:19 PM
She leaned over to look at the card and then back to the two she'd drawn. "You win! It's a... I'll show you in a minute, they're hard to explain." Anya held the cards out to Lucky Jasper. "Your turn."
For Lucky (In for a Penny) -
Nexus Guide BOT — Today at 10:32 PM
Anya de la Rose Rolled 2, 13 sided dice: [6, 6] : Total: 12
In for a Penny — Today at 10:33 PM
He watched the pair of sixes come out... and grinned toothily at her. "What problem." He pushed the coins over, plus a seventh to pay Vesper's way, too, with a wink at her.
Anya de la Rose — Today at 10:34 PM
She pulled two of the same card and let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. "You didn't win, by the way. I lost."
In for a Penny — Today at 10:35 PM
"But I hear that still earns me a prize. Gats-- er-hrm, the referee says so," waggling his eyebrows above his sunglasses at the drake and trying to get him to laugh.
For Novella Libertine: Novella Libertine — Yesterday at 9:07 PM
"Third time is being the charm?" A third gold coin made a slow crossing across the woodgrain.
Tell a Lie — Yesterday at 9:07 PM
It was a practiced set of motions, pouring a drink, taking any coins with a damp cloth, and dusting off her gloves before she handled the cards again.
Which she did.
An Ace and a Six, giving her opponent a range of four, which she neatly filled. She opened her hands, beamed a smile, and agreed, "Third time's the charm."
For Bastian Marlay: Bastian Marlay — Yesterday at 9:59 PM
Bastian nodded. "Those sound like good friends," he said quietly as he drew another.
Tell a Lie — Yesterday at 10:01 PM
"They aaaarrrreee-- oh no, my king was horrible and cruel and tried to levy a tax on air and they deposed him!" So much for the cool, professional decorum she had started with. She beamed at him. "Good game."
For Dillon T Jones: Dillon T Jones — 03/09/2023 11:35 PM
And then Dillon pulled the ace of spades. "What an Auspicious sign!" In an attempt to do an imitation of Gene from 'Bob's Burgers'. Anya de la Rose — 03/09/2023 11:36 PM
"You win!" Anya shoved the little bag of tokens over at Dillon. "Now you get to pick a prize."
For Rohin MacKurn: Rohin MacKurn — 03/29/2023 10:29 PM
"Evens," Mac says to Ettyn as they reach for another coin.
Death Knell — 03/29/2023 10:31 PM
It took two more coins (counting the one they'd just handed over), and three more draws, to get Mac's coveted evens. A 4 and a 10. She fished out one of the electrum tokens and warned, "Some people after these things. Sure you can lay them out, but -- don't want it to be a surprise." Ambushes could be pretty inconvenient.
For Stitch: Stitch — 03/29/2023 11:03 PM
Right, those. The blenders here were industrial grade, no? Stitch didn't think to ask Ettyn, connoisseur of blenders, while he turns over more null cards.
Death Knell — 03/29/2023 11:05 PM
She grinned as the Queen of Clubs made her debut. "The King is dead. Long live the Queen." She fished out one of the old electrum tokens and held it out to Stitch. "Underground and Undercity are best bets for finding someone to trade in this. Or find one of those old vaults, unlock it, see what's inside."
For Dillon T Jones: Dillon T Jones — 03/29/2023 10:10 PM
The man drew another card with a lift of his hand on over. A snort though, playfully, at Ettyn's words. "In another life I was a conman myself Ettyn, I know how to the words go." As if she was really conning him.
Death Knell — 03/29/2023 10:12 PM
Ettyn laughed, not a small chuckle, but an open laugh for Dillon's words, cheeks dimpling with mirth. "You were saying," she said, when he won after all. But wasn't that the con, too? She still got him to play. She loosened the pouch and handed him another of the ancient electrum coins that -- for their extreme age -- looked an awful lot like they contained circuitry.
