What We Remember...

Post by PrlUnicorn »

With the passing of several people in our community as well as in my family, over the last few years, I got to thinking about what people leave behind. When you actually know someone, personally, you might have photos or physical remembrances of some kind. My cousin, S, lost her mother in her early teens. She was blessed to have a step-mother, a Mom, that pulled two families into one. Her father died a few years ago. We were talking about the physical things that are left behind and how someone's life should be more than boxes of stuff.

More important, perhaps, is what remains once few actually remember who that person was. We've lost Fayalki/Hunter, Angel Caven, Ayesha Momus/Fechnwench, Dansantes/Jack Scott, Gemethyst, Teleperien/Murelle, GreyMantle/Duzenflika, Lyrical Dementia (Blue), and most recently, Panther (Rob). Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head! There are others that we meet and often lose touch once they leave the community. In many cases, we don't know if they are still among the living. Among those are the ones we wonder about, are they alive and well?

I got to thinking about how we remember and memorialize people. And how someone's life experiences change their outlook on things. There have been cases of people that wrote their own eulogies. While I hope to write what will likely be lengthy thoughts in my story folder, I do wonder ... how would my fellow members here want to be remembered when that time comes, be it as part of the RP community and/or of things outside it.

I hope to be remembered as the massive pain in the ass that I am. But I also hope to be remembered as someone who put a lot of love into my time here. I hope my creations outlive me even if those enjoying them don't always know who I am.

I hope that the stories I write and the settings I create will be remembered and used to inspire others. I hope I can work with the community to help shape the future into an inclusive, nurturing place. I’m certain my friends will want to remember me in more direct and personal ways, but in the community at large, I want my work to be my legacy.

A bit rambly, but that’s my thoughts.

I'll probably be remembered as a pain in the ass or worse! Hand in hand with that, I'd like to be remembered as someone that stood up for what they believe in. I also hope my creations outlive me and when I am gone that people still use them as some of them have memorials to other players within them.

I want to be remembered for being honest. For my annoying habits. For my horrible mistakes and not-so-horrible mistakes and that whatever I was to a lot of people; I was honest about it. But most importantly, I want to be remembered as someone who tried, who might have made a dark moment bright at some time.

Perhaps some fan art of my fat arse on the back of a pink, fluffy unicorn that's just stabbed someone while I grin and flag everything off too. Either or.
The saints can't help me now; the ropes have been unbound
I hunt for you with bloody feet across the hallowed ground
I want to find you, tear out all your tenderness and
howl, howl, howl.

I hope to be remembered as kind, gentle and bringing a little bit of this and that to play. Hopefully not to be remember as too boring! :)

I'd like to be remembered for what I made. Whether it was creative work that someone enjoyed, or a moment between people, or a safe space when someone needed it, I'd like to be remembered for that. I hope that when I'm gone, there are things I've made that people will reflect on and smile, and pay that forward by creating stories or places or moments for someone else.

I use to want to be remembered as someone you could turn to. I always thought I'd run a foster home or like an Inn.. But I've come to find out I'm NOT that much of a people-person.

As far as Characters go.. Anyabelle of Le'Astra use to be ME.. open heart, ready to help any one and protect every one. Lately, my chars are a bit chaotic. ;) I hope though that I can be remembered as Kind and Fun :)

As a roleplayer I know it may sound silly but I started with Amaris as a young character because I wanted her to have a place in many hearts. Children find their way into the hearts of many which means she'll live on for way past myself. A side note, A lovely soul here also showed me that I started young to do some personal healing and find what it would be like to have the things Amaris has achieved the love and friendship, that has touched my heart so much.
As for myself personally I hope people find me at least endearing and kind. Someone who is remembered fondly and with love.

I'd hope I'd be remembered as always trying to at least be polite and respectful to everyone. As well if someone needed to talk to about anything or to vent. That I was willing to listen and if asked. Give my point of view. As for my characters? I hope they are remembered for being fun to play off of.
So sleep soundly in your beds tonight
For judgement falls upon you at first light
I'm the hand of God
I'm the dark messiah
I'm the vengeful one

What we leave behind

I have been fortunate enough to write and play here, and other places, with many of you for nearly two decades. I have had the opportunity through Kruger to create stories, and feelings. Is this what we leave behind? I don't know. I know that there have been many weapons and pieces of armor created, as gifts and by request, which have gone to the characters of other players. I was blessed to help create, with the player of Sylus Kurgen, the shield for the Squire to the Overlord in Duel of Swords. I leave these things behind, a record which, for now, says I was here.

How do I want to be remembered? In my writings, I want to be remembered for the creativity. In my play, I want to be remembered for a certain amount of unpredictability. In the duels, I will always want to be remembered as The Anvil, for the show which I bring to all of these matches. I want people to remember that win or lose they had fun with him and me. I don't know that this will be what I leave behind or not...but...

Let the record show that I, the player behind Kruger, want to leave behind the spirit of The Anvil...dig a little deeper...pose a little harder...sing a little louder...and explode like a firework!
