July 2022 Archmage Tournament

Post by Max Lager »

The July Archmage Tournament will be held on Sunday, July 24th at 8:00pm Eastern! The format will (likely) be double elimination (depending on entrants), and late entrants have no more than 5 minutes to arrive. Seeding will begin at 8:05pm, and casting will begin at 8:10pm.

Seeding will be based on the most recent RoK rankings. Early registration will cut off on Friday, July 22nd at 8:55pm ET. Any late registrants or walk-ins will automatically be ranked below early registrants. Registrants tied with the same ranking will be seeded by WoL.

Please post your registrations as replies to this thread. Good luck everyone!

(( This is a reminder that we do have a 5 minute casting limit each round in order to try and keep the tourney from running too late. In the case anyone needs more than 5 minutes for an urgent/special circumstance, please alert the caller, opponent, and the room so that they know you need a few minutes and will return asap. Thanks! ))

Second place will also take home an additional prize in the form of the Keeper's Blessing.

Keeper's Blessing

1. Allows the wielder of this grant the ability to use a special one time use Elemental Fury crystal within a challenge against a Keeper. This crystal will allow its wielder the use of Elemental Fury up to three times within a challenge (should the challenge go to 3 full duels). The power of the Elemental Fury Crystal can only be used once per match. The Keeper's Blessing is available for use until the next Archmage Tournament.

- or -

2. Allows the wielder to submit the Blessing to the Duel of Magic staff to be redeemed for a Challenge Grant that can be awarded to any non-Sorcerer duelist of their choice. This grant will allow its wielder to challenge one of the four elemental keeper titles so long as the keeper is not under a grace period. This grant must be used within 14 days.

(( Should 2nd place go to a current Elemental Keeper, they can only select the second option to give the grant away, and cannot select the EF crystal since they're already a keeper. ))

The next morning . . .

With a steady, ruby gaze, Xanth was perusing one of the many libraries in the marble complex known as the Citadel of Stars. He lightly traced a black gloved finger across the spine of each book as if mentally cataloging each one. His two goblin helpers, Varseen and Vallen, were nearby.

"Back on top! Heh heh. Wow, this place is great. I hope the kitchen is well stocked." Varseen said, holding a green colored Laughing Lich that was leftover from the previous night's challenge.

Be quiet, you simpleton. It has been almost a decade since I was here last. I have much research to catch up on. Why don't you go clean something and make yourself useful. Xanth growled at Varseen as he picked a volume off one of the shelves.

"Aw, man. At least let me finish my drink first." Varseen took a drink, then wrinkled his nose. "Whew. That's way too strong. I need to thin this out some." He saw a clear colored potion on a nearby table and brightened. "Hey! That just might work." Popping out the cork, he poured the potion into the drink until it changed to a very pale green. Varseen eyeballed it for a few moments, then sniffed it warily. "Hey, Vallen, come here and try this."

"What? I'm not drinking that", Vallen said dismissively.

"Aw, come on, it's not . . . " Varseen had taken a few steps towards Vallen, who was standing right behind Xanth, when his foot caught on the rug and the drink went flying out of the glass into the air.

What are you two dunderheads up to now . . . , Xanth began, turning around. The drink flew right into Xanth's hooded face, making a hissing sound on impact. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? I'M GONNA WRING YOUR . . . . hmmhmm . . . . HmmHmmHmm . . . HmmHmmHmmTeeHeeHeeHee . . . . HmmHmmHmmTeeHeeHeeHeeHeeHee . . .

Varseen and Vallen stood frozen in fear at first, watching Xanth.

"I thought you said that drink was a 'Laughing Lich'. Sounds more like a 'Giggling Lich' . . . ", Vallen said.

Varseen looked at the potion, which had a label that said 'Ye Olde Tonic of Mylde Amusement'.

TeeHeeHeeHeeHeeHeeeeeerrrrRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! Xanth was now flailing his arms wildly as he used his ArchMage power to dispel the potion's effects. He then slowly swiveled his hood in Varseen & Vallen's direction. With slow, deliberate steps, he advanced on the two, who were cringing back from his presence.

THAT. *NEVER*. HAPPENED. Xanth barked each word at them with an emphatic point of his black gloved finger.

Varseen and Vallen frantically shook their heads no in agreement.
