Nimble Fox Challenge 2022!

Post by Penny Escobar »

Come out Friday, July 1st as early as 7 pm EST to try out the (now declared) Annual Nimble Fox Challenge at Seaside Beach, cheer on your friends and enjoy some drinks and food in the open air! Penny will be out tonight selling Sunset Punch (cocktail and mocktail versions), along with some freshly caught and grilled fish (sashimi is also available)!

Construction of the obstacle course in the waters of Seaside would began as early as Thursday evening and would finish by early afternoon on Friday, looking much like previous years courses but with a few fun and daring additions added! Everyone is encouraged to test their skill, but similar to former year’s course the difficulty increases as you get further in the three different stages! Come out and awe the spectators or be awed yourself as the Nimble Foxes reach the top. Fireworks commonly shoot off in celebration of a newly crowned Nimble Fox leaving dare devils and spectators alike to enjoy colorful explosions in the night sky. So come out and give it a try!

Stage One: Sweep the Leg!

Stage Two: Wrecking Ball trampoline!

Stage Three: The classic is back, a terrifying wooden tower full of slipper scaffolding and narrow ledges that require a few well skilled leaps to make it to the top!

The Finale: Cool yourself off with a splash going down the massive slippery slide to get back to sea level!

Ready to take on the Nimble Fox Challenge?
The Nimble Fox Challenge course has three stages of increasing difficulty.
Roll a 1d20 for each stage and see if you beat the number that represents their challenge difficulty.

To clear Stage 1 you need to have a total of 8+ on a dice roll.
To clear Stage 2 you need to have a total of 12+ on a dice roll.
To clear Stage 3 you need to have a total of 16+ on a dice roll.

How do you increase your chances of success? Here's how!

1. Before you start your Nimble Fox Challenge.. toss back some Sunset Punch and be sure to BOLD it!
By drinking this you can have a +5 bonus to each of your 1d20 dice rolls!
2. Dig deep and use your grit! You have a single 2d6 roll for only one of the three stages, so use it wisely!
This extra boost might make or break your challenge climb!!

Commands on using the dice bot in the #green_room channel are
?roll 1d20 or ?roll 1d20 +5 if you are using the Sunset punch bonus!

Getting to the top gets you an adorable icon!

((Reminder that this will be up for the entire month of July, so as in previous years if you don't make it to the opening event, feel free to post up your rp and dice rolls below after July 1st so I can send you an icon! Thanks and enjoy! ))

Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:48 PM
Though what caught her attention more is the Nimble Fox Challenge. Cecilia lived in Seaside, so she had watched the construction of it during her work at the nearby Sunny Seaside Boardwalk. She made sure to grab herself a drink of Sunset Punch while heading over to the starting zone, and drinking while she walked.

Cecilia Woods Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [18] : Mod: 5 for Total: 23 (First Stage)
Cecilia Woods Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [5] : Mod: 5 for Total: 10
Cecilia Woods Rolled 2, 6 sided dice: [1, 1] : Total: 2 (Second Stage +Grit to beat the 12+ check)
Cecilia Woods Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [20] : Mod: 5 for Total: 25 (Third and final stage)

Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:50 PM
The empty glass left on the sand before stepping up onto the first trial. She bent her leg back and caught an ankle. Stretch, stretch, drop one leg and get the other; this followed with a few hops before she started her attempt at the Sweep the Leg portion.
Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:52 PM
One hop, followed by another, and then another. Perhaps she was just nimble enough as she made it past the first obstacle after making sure to hop right over the incoming attempt at a sweep. She tried to keep the momentum as she headed into the second part of the course.
Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:54 PM
The bounce of the trampoline had her falling to a knee and bouncing against it and right back up onto her feet. Cecilia, forced to take a slower attempt at this now, did her best to duck and push at the wrecking balls but she is able to make it through. Barely.
Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:56 PM
The last one was no doubt the hardest, and she stood there with a hand on a hip as she touched down upon the wood and looked up at the sheer height.. A soft tsk left her lips due to a click of her tongue. Though she did pause from her inspection of what could possibly be her splashy demise to look across from the course she stood upon and waved toward Lillian... and then she's off to try and climb!
Cecilia Woods — Yesterday at 11:57 PM
Maybe it was due to this not having a trampoline involved.. but she was able to find her footing against the wooden structure and began her bounding up it. Grasping onto the next panel to pull herself right on up and into a crouch, then pushing off it in a jump to take on the next. Higher and higher she'd go until she got to the very top!

Play is from the 07-05-2022 Seaside Beach log at 2:00 am:

Rachael Blackthorne: She moved from the ring and headed to the bar. After brief negotiations, she gained a mug of **Sunset Punch** herself and downed it.
Rachael Blackthorne: Icer was offered some fond scritches before she headed in the direction of the obstacle course.

Rolls from the Green Room after 2 am:

Rachael Blackthorne Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [16] : Mod: 5 for Total: 21
Rachael Blackthorne Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [16] : Mod: 5 for Total: 21
Rachael Blackthorne Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [10] : Mod: 5 for Total: 15
Rachael Blackthorne Rolled 2, 6 sided dice: [4, 4] : Total: 8 (Third stage grit to beat the 16+ check)

Rachael Blackthorne: She approached the first level not long after Maggie, the *Sweep The Leg* portion, and studied it carefully before she made her first attempt.
Rachael Blackthorne: She studied the pattern of the *leg sweeper* before she made a prodigious leap into the air, did two somersaults, and landed on her black sneakered feet gracefully on the other side of the sweeper.
Rachael Blackthorne: After a few deep breaths, she followed Maggie to the next obstacle, the *Wrecking Ball Trampoline*. Her dark lens shielded sapphire hued gaze studied the obstacles intently, analyzing the patterns.
Rachael Blackthorne: She leaped down on one end of the trampoline and used the bounce to send her over one of the *wrecking balls* and the trampoline portion inbetween. Another leap and bounce sent her over the second wrecking ball and to the other side of the obstacle. Both of her raven brows lifted.
Rachael Blackthorne: After a few deep, centering breaths, she headed to the last obstacle, *The Tower*. This too received a great deal of study from her.
Rachael Blackthorne: She *dug in her heels*, so to speak, and utilised what some in the old days would call *grit*, others would call fortitude, and still others would classify as pure stubbornness to leap up the wobbly and rickety Tower to finally make it to the top.
Rachael Blackthorne: After a deep, cleansing breath, she slid down the massive slide of the *Finale* and landed with a *sploosh* into the ocean.

Logs are from July 7th on the beach! Took two tries but got it!

Haru Jeong — Today at 10:21 PM
Haru placed the glass the Sunset Punch had been in on the counter before grinning at Droet, "I've been good, the boys are doing good, Paw-Fee is doing good, the diner is... functional," needed troubleshooting, "The other two places are undergoing some changes," there was a wink, before he called out to Sibyl, "Join us Sibs! We're going to have some fun!" He pointed up to the tower, trying to alleviate any misunderstandings before they happened.

Haru Jeong Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [10] : Mod: 5 for Total: 15
Haru Jeong — Today at 11:01 PM
Haru dragged himself back up onto the starting platform after a poor doggy paddle with jaguar-shaped help back. He scaled up fairly easy, before going once more up and over the first obstacle, and staring those balls down as if they were his nemesis, which in this moment they were.
Haru Jeong Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [11] : Mod: 5 for Total: 16
Haru Jeong — Today at 11:06 PM
There was a thumbs up to Tella, glaring even further into the ball, before taking a run at the obstacle, aiming to just book it past. A hop skip and a jump later had him careening past them, joining his employee and her partner on the next platform.
Haru Jeong Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [17] : Mod: 5 for Total: 22
Haru Jeong — Today at 11:12 PM
With a well-practiced grace, or maybe just a lot of spite, Haru practically danced across the platforms dropping a little backflip onto the last one... and shockingly(?) landing it, tongue stuck out at Sibyl, before turning to the slide to finish it off

Angelic — Yesterday at 11:16 PM
Angel's eyes narrowed immediately, and he let it stay that way the whole time he drank his Sunset Punch.

Angelic — Today at 12:51 AM
Angel hesitated at the platform and watched everyone else go off like a shot, then joined the fray!
Angelic — Today at 12:55 AM
Falling bodies nearly upended him a number of times, but he managed to barely hop over them and the wide swinging arms. One might think he would move through with the agile grace of a swan... But it was really closer to skittering in a panic. He did not want to get squashed by a falling competitor!
Angelic — Today at 1:04 AM
In his desperation to not being steamrolled by the Cajun, he screeched all the way through the second course. Never mind some of the obvious jokes that could be made. Low hanging fruit and all.
Angelic — Today at 1:13 AM
In an attempt to get away while Stitch and Canaan were scuffling on the trampoline... All six of those arms went to work to get him up the scaffolding in no time! He was safe up here. Hah. Even peeked over to watch Everyone still below.

Stitch — Yesterday at 11:17 PM
"Wha', 'ee don' know. Do you?" Slits slid back to Angel and his snout wrinkled playfully. Bastard. He tossed his Sunset Punch back, an ear twisting toward the approaching footsteps before he laid eyes on the Collector.

Stitch — Today at 1:25 AM
This time he skipped across each of those elevated lily pads, hopped the swooping arm, and landed at the start of the next. Quick. An ear turned back at the new tune as his shoulders shook. "Fucker." Catch all, tonight.

Stitch — Today at 1:27 AM
For the second time, he avoided each of those wrecking balls, and without a brick house named Cane at the end of the obstacle, he was allowed to assess the next. Snickering continued, brought to you by Boombox Tella.

Stitch — Today at 1:32 AM
Nimble Jackal?! In his haste--though admittedly unaware of the conspiracy to get Angel in the water--he took a few long-legged leaps, skipping two and three of the smaller platforms at a time. He stumbled, but he did not fall! Probably the soundtrack. Finally, he made it to the top where he found.. no one.

So he looked to his north star, the lighter on the beach, and held his arms out, half victoriously, half where is everyone?

It was still early enough that there were hardly any spectators out to watch upon those still trying to make their way through the obstacle course that had been set up earlier in the month. That is, until the rumbling of motors broke through the silence on the beach. From a distance, the caravan of vans and utility vehicles could be seen traversing their way across the sand towards the start of that obstacle course, being lead by a white jeep that boasted a large silver star with the hot pink letters SuperStar written across it.

The jeep careened to a sharp, sliding, stop, sending sand flying and then she climbed out in all of her pink flashy glory. Long legs seemed even longer in the clinging jump suit which zipped all the way up to her chest. On the back, the same logo that was on the jeep, let anyone who didn't know her that she must be the star of the show.

Already, a crowd was starting to grow and she did her duty by moving towards the gaggle of fans so she could sign a few autographs. Pushing those black plastic frames higher up on her nose, she posed for photos and then offered them a wave before heading over to the bar to order her up one of those Sunset Punch drinks.

The vans hurried and got into place, crewmen scrambling to get all of the lights in the correct spots and the sound equipment set up properly while Miranda settled on a stool and took her first sip. "Alright boys, the sun is nearly in the correct spot and the wind is blowing against us so make sure you get the microphones right this time." She called to the crew after taking a few more sips.

The drink half finished, she set it down upon the counter and then reached up to tuck the majority of her hair up into her helmet. Vizor up, she peered out over the course and started that way. Stepping onto the landing, magnified emeralds watched the spinning padded arm go by once, twice, and three times. She was learning it's pattern, or trying to as the final touches were given to the sound equipment. There was a loud blaring of a horn that signaled the ready and she held up both arms before turning to the crowd and taking a bow. The music, chosen for this stunt, started to play and she turned back while dropping the vizor down into place. Taking a breath, she took off and attempted to clear the first obstacle like a pro!
Making it look easy, she hopped at the right time and grinned as the arm spun away harmlessly. With carefully placed steps, she reached the other side with a flourish and bowed to the spectators who let out a series of cheers and applause. Getting her bearings, she eyed the next level and let her mind calculate just how to maneuver through it.
She watched a few challengers bouncing along and then get swept away into the water by the large wrecking balls that were swinging haphazardly about. There were a few different ways she could go about this challenge so it would take her just a moment to consider before she chose to flip off the platform and onto the trampoline. Being limber would possibly help her on this next challenge as she landed flat on her back to try and roll beneath one of those swinging balls.
Of course, the bounce up had her colliding with that wrecking ball and she simply clung to it as it swung out over the water. Like a spider monkey, she held on until it was safely over the net once more.
Letting go at the appropriate time, she bounced back upon the trampoline and then flipped right off to land safely on the other side! The crowd...went wild!
For the last part, she removed her sturdy boots so that bare feet would help her traverse the narrow scaffolding easier. She didn't give herself time to really think about this part as she knew overthinking was one way to failure. A few good breaths were taken before she started the haphazard climb of the tower.
She was nearly at the top when disaster struck. In pure Miranda fashion, she misjudged a step and found nothing but air. Like that coyote in the cartoons, she seemed to hover in place for a moment before she started to fall down down down towards the water where at the last moment, she managed to shift her body so that she didn't just belly flop!

Miranda St.James Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [12] : Mod: 5 for Total: 17

Her crew was on her in moments, helping her onto a jet ski and then bringing her back to the beach. She didn't hesitate to head back towards the start and after another sip of that Sunset Punch she started again. With quick and nimble steps, she hopped over that red padded arm to easily scamper to the platform.

Miranda St.James Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [16] : Mod: 5 for Total: 21

Rolling forward, she bounced once on the trampoline, dodging a wrecking ball as it swung her way, and then bounced again to land solidly on the platform beyond.

Miranda St.James Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [10] : Mod: 5 for Total: 15
Miranda St.James Rolled 2, 6 sided dice: [1, 4] : Total: 5

Pausing, she eyed the tower a bit more thoroughly this time, making sure to look where she had made her mistake previously so that way she wouldn't repeat it. She very well might have had her eyes closed this time as she scurried up along the narrow planks to reach the top. Once there, she paused and raised both hands high into the air to signal to her adoring fans down below.

Hearing the shouting of the crowd, she turned and eyed the slide with a large grin. "Oh now this is going to be fun." She took a few steps back before taking a running leap and a dive towards the slide...belly first! Hitting the bullseye at the end, she bounced, posed, and then splashed into the water!

Once more, jet skis came to her rescue and soon enough she was on the beach amidst a thousand camera flashes and more people asking for autographs. Miranda was happy to oblige!

Kira took the time to consider that. “That is good. I have enough to deal with right now. I do not need *her* making things more complicated.” She took Sere’s hand and pulled her towards the bar. “Come, let us take a seat. Salvador is about to run the course, so I would like to wait until he is done to make my attempt.”

Once they came close to the bar, Kira held up two fingers, but she gave a questioning look to Serenity. If she did not want to share a **Sunset Punch**, she would not be upset. But she did wonder how it made running the course easier.

_Kira Adia Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [5] : Mod: 5 for **Total: 10**_

As *gatito* passed the second obstacle, meaning the way was free, Kira hopped onto the posts for the leg sweep. She had activated a rune to disable her own magic for this challenge. Unfortunately, the posts were slick enough that she chose to take them one at a time, as opposed to a quick hop-scotch across.

Kira paused to cheer his success. That was nearly a mistake, as she slipped on the slick trampoline. She caught herself in time on the wrecking ball itself and used the momentum of the fall to push through, managing to guide herself into a roll that just made it to stable ground at the end.

_Kira Adia Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [19] : Mod: 5 for **Total: 24**_

That roll gave Kira a good push in her forward momentum, and she used it. With a short sprint, she dashed into a leap that all but skipped the first ledge in the tower. As she hauled herself up, she stopped thinking like a girl on an obstacle course and let the Huntress take over, as though she saw the path to the top before her. She chose a route that didn’t seem intuitive, but she made it in the end.

Kira turned to face the beach and held her hands up with a cheer before taking stunning slide into the ramp down.

Attempt #1

When the person working at the tiki bar noticed them and started to ask, he lifted two fingers and dipped a nod. It did not take long for two Sunset Punches to be served up before them. Salvador immediately picked his up and chugged it, wasting little time. The obstacle course was calling his name.

Delahada Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [1] : Mod: 5 for Total: 6

"You'll do fine," Salvador said to his companion, quietly. He gave the gatito a light clap on the arm, with a private smile turned over his shoulder just for him. Then he launched himself up onto the first set of platforms. Just as he was getting ready to hop from one to the next, his foot slipped and he fell directly onto the rotating bar. Much to his surprise, though he made not a sound, he was immediately plunged into the sea. Splash!

( Immediate failure! Lol! https://discord.com/channels/297389900335153163/454679486156374027/998403621962129429 )

Attempt #2

Maybe he was silently blaming his stupid high metabolism for failing him. Just to be on the safe side, Salvador claimed a second order of Sunset Punch. He gave the person on duty a nod and grunt of thanks and picked up the drink. There was a moment of pause where, perhaps, he considered that he might have chugged the first drink too fast. He went a little slower this time, turning to watch Kira's progress and the gatito's trip down the slide.

Delahada Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [17] : Mod: 5 for Total: 22

Before jumping to it, Sal paused at the starting line and crouched down to rip the holes in his knees wider. He tore free the bottom half of his jeans to discard the extra water weight, turning them into shorts. Then he rose up and studied the first stage, making mental calculations in pause.

Once he was satisfied with the math in his head, he jumped onto the first platform. This time he had it down. An easy hop over the first rotation of the bar, making it to the next platform and the next.

Delahada Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [3] : Mod: 5 for Total: 8
Delahada Rolled 2, 6 sided dice: [4, 6] : Total: 10

No amount of math could prepare him for the trampoline. He was bouncing! Bouncing was bad! At first landing he found himself luckily launched over a wrecking ball, arms flailing. As he came down, he impacted the next and clung to it. This was probably not the way this stage was meant to be traversed!

Swinging as the wrecking balls rotated, he looked wildly around and did another rapid bit of mental calculating. He let go, hit the trampoline, bounced at just the right angle out of sheer grit, and launched himself clear. He landed on the first platform of the final leg of the challenge in a tumbling roll, and stopped there a minute to catch his breath. He was also swearing under it.

Delahada Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [12] : Mod: 5 for Total: 17

Salvador got up and shook out his arms, tilting his head one way and then the other to crack his neck. He bent his knees and readied himself like a runner at the starting block, and paused in his pose for a long moment. He studied the remainder of the course, once again running the math through his mind. And then, without warning, he launched himself forward.

The scaffolding had been up for well over a week, collecting sea salt and slime, making the footing treacherous. This was not the same as scaling buildings and leaping rooftops. For one, he was not wearing his boots. The wet, wooden planks under his bare feet were distracting, but he powered through.

Once or twice he slipped, but recovered before his tumbles could take him into the drink. He leapt at the tower, loosing his grip with one hand and twisting aside. The fingers of his other hand stuck and held as his back hit the wall. Swinging back forward, he got a good foot hold and reached upward. Then again, and again, until eventually he managed to just barely roll onto the top of the platform at the finish line.

There he stopped, flat on his back, and stared at the sky, letting out a heavy, relieved exhale. The sound of the surf beat in time to the sound of his pulse pounding in his ears.

( A narrow victory! https://discord.com/channels/297389900335153163/454679486156374027/998420344056586240 )

When the bartender brought them over two glasses of Sunset Punch, the gatito’s mouth formed a small ‘o.’ “I forgot all about this,” he admitted. Since Sal was chugging, he got busy, too. He didn’t want to be left out!

A few more hasty gulps saw to the death of his punch. He wiped at the corner of his mouth as he lowered the glass to the counter top. The tug upon his shirt made him sway a step after the Spaniard. He considered the two women for a heartbeat, then continued on and headed down into the surf with his companion.

“I hope I have better luck with this than I did last year,” he said quietly, with humor.

That private sort of smile earned one in kind, plus a sweet little rumble. He crossed his arms, waiting while Sal climbed up onto that platform—and promptly bit his lip when his companion found himself plunged into the drink almost right away. A little titter escaped him. Ahem!

Since the platform was clear, he climbed up there himself. Keeping his eyes upon the sweeping bar, he hopped it when it came around, then hopped to another platform, and on to the second part of the obstacle course.

For some silly reason, he hadn’t been expecting the second part of the obstacle course to be quite as slick as it was. His feet slipped a little on the trampoline portion, but he kept his balance as he crossed it, ducking under some of the wrecking balls and pushing at others. He breathed a sigh of relief once he reached the stable platform on the other side.

But the toughest part of the obstacle course was yet to come. The wooden scaffolding had been his bane, last year! He’d had to try numerous times to climb it before he’d been successful. He perched his hands upon his hips now and stared at it.

“Well,” he said, at length, “here goes nothing.” He took a deep breath and took off, running toward the base of the scaffolding as quickly as he dared. When he was close enough, he launched himself at it, caught a hand hold, and began climbing. The wood was every bit as slick as he remembered and he cursed quietly once when his foot slipped off a piece of wood for a moment, but he quickly recovered and continued to climb.

Up and up and up. When he finally reached the top, he swung a leg up and climbed that last little bit. It only hit him that he’d managed it in one try this time once he was straightening up to stand and survey the dark sea and beach. He threw his fists in the air with a hoot of triumph! “I did it!” He laughed into the wind.

Dris thanked the bartender for the Sunset Punch, taking the one that Rhys handed to him with a smile. He clinked his glass against Rhys' as soon as he had it in hand. "Sláinte, mo ghrá," he said sweetly to the man. The bard lifted it a little in salute after the clink, and then he started drinking.

Now that the way was clear, Dris heeded Rhys' challenging call and climbed up onto the first platform. He took a deep breath as he watched the spindle turning dangerously round and round. Then he exhaled and leaped, wobbling one way with a stifled shriek-turned-shout as he jumped over it and made it safely to the next platform! "Hah!" He threw up his arms in a victory pose.

Catching a glimpse over his shoulder, Dris jumped to action. "Yipe! I better move!" And so saying he leaped out onto the trampoline. The nimble bard fared much better at avoiding all those swinging red balls than his boyfriend had. He twisted and spun like it was a dance, and bounced out to safely land upon the next platform with a merry laugh.

Having loitered long enough, and seeing Rhys launching himself onto the trampoline behind him, Dris jumped to the ready. He yelled as he leaped out onto the platforms, like a man running for his life. Here the bard showcased his very high dexterity and made it all the way to the climbing wall without slipping even once. Dris definitely was not a muscular man, but he scaled the wall to the very top with a skill and grace that may have made people suspect he had done this sort of thing before.

Dris rolled onto the very top platform and hopped up to his feet, throwing his arms up high in the sky with a victorious laugh and jumped up and down. "I did it! I'm the king of the world!" Maybe it was by his own power of prestidigitation that the fireworks went off overhead. Just a few.

Maggie took the bottle from Misty and drank the Sunset Punch. "Too bad that thing isn't down here in the water. Another swallow of Sunset Punch was had to finish the bottle. A dolphin nosed it to shore for one of the cleaning crew to grab if Maggie forgot when leaving the course.

Well, this is a courting, so it must be a donnybrook!" She giggled and got ready jump over what looked like a big padded bolster. Before the thing came around again, she dove for the water!

Mairead Harker Maggie waited at a ladder to the platform for what looked a bunch of humungous red Christmas ornaments hanging from an X or plus sign frame over a trampoline. "Ok..." Maggie started climbing that ladder and eying the obstacle. "Watch for falling Christmas tree balls!"

Mairead Harker Maggie made use of her dance training. She bobbed, weaved, and cartwheeled her way to the opposite platform!

Maggie was eying that third obstacle like she might a chess board.
Maggie started out carefully on that third obstacle. After jumping across the first few platforms, she nearly slipped off. "In for a penny, in for a pound!" It was something her Da often said when he was ready to go big or go home! Maggie took a deep breath and took several running jumps. She pirouetted in the air! Maggie ended up looking like she was doing a performance of Félicie's dance battle in Leap!
Maggie went down the slide and found her dolphin pals waiting on her.

Hyejin Ri — Today at 12:32 AM
"It's a good thing I did. I've failed three times now" Hye-jin said ruefully as she accepted a fourth Sunset Punch. "I'm getting up there and riding that slide though. Even if I'm out here until dawn!" she assured, expression settling back into the stubborn look.

Hyejin Ri — Today at 12:40 AM
Hye-jin grinned as she saw Yuri ahead of her have success. Then she was pausing to catch the timing and springing over the Sweep the Leg as well, clearing it as nimbly as a fox once more.

Hyejin Ri — Today at 12:47 AM
Hye-jin gave Yuri a thumbs up from the platform, and eyed the Wrecking Ball trampoline again. She tried to negotiate it faster this time, and managed to dodge around all the swinging wrecking balls and make a leap to the beginning of the next stage.

Hyejin Ri — Today at 12:50 AM
It must have been knowing that Yuri was catching up that gave Hye-jin the extra motivation. She went leaping and scrambling over the scaffolds and platforms. On the last jump to the narrow ledge she wobbled a bit, but caught her balance with a waving of arms and stuck the landing! She was at the very top now, and taking a breath to cheer for her victory at last on her fourth attempt.

Attempt #1

Rhys reached over to clink his glass against Dris’.Iechyd, cariad,” he replied, mirroring the salute. Then he began to drink, as well. Thanks to the bartender, he knew that you were supposed to knock back the Sunset Punch as quickly as possible, so he guzzled it.

Rhys watched the rotation of the large, horizontal spindle as he approached the first obstacle and climbed up onto the platform, trying to get the timing of it right in his mind. Then he got ready to jump.

Rhys Germain Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [3] : Mod: 5 for Total: 8

When the spindle approached, Rhys went to jump—and his foot slipped! He barely got enough air to clear the thing, but clear it he did! He grunted like he’d pulled something in the process and continued on to the next platform. “Don’t jinx me!” he called to Dris.

Once he was out of the spindle’s reach, he looked back to Dris and shot him the bird in play. “Uh huh. Come on and dream your ass up here.” The bard was up! And Rhys was waiting for Maggie to complete the next stage. He looked her way when she called out about the Christmas ornaments. “You first!”

He realized then that Maggie had conquered the second obstacle, and he clapped his hands together. “Way to go, Maggie!” He continued clapping as he made his way over to the second leg of the course. There was a bit of splashing before he climbed into position and got ready to brave the oversized Christmas ornaments.

“Duck a lot,” he echoed Maggie as he got ready. Dris’ quacking made him laugh some more. Enough so that he mistimed his start and darted right into one of the rotating balls. he scrabbled at it like a cat on a window ledge and was summarily swept off his feet, and right off of the trampoline and into the water. Splash!

((Forgot to roll for grit here until I’d already written the outcome.))

Attempt #2

Rhys made his way back to the bar, dripping water off into the sand on either side of him. The bartender saw him coming and handed over another glass of Sunset Punch. Rhys set it down long enough to applaud for Hye-jin when she cleared the second obstacle. “Way to go!” He continued to applaud for Maggie when she cleared the third obstacle.

Then he set about guzzling down his second glass of punch.

When he was finished with that glass of Sunset Punch, Rhys went back out into the water and splashed his way over to the first platform, where he quickly climbed up and took position again.

Rhys Germain Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [19] : Mod: 5 for Total: 24

This time, he was more prepared for the slickness of the platform and he hopped over the sweeping spindle without issue. Then he quickly hopped from platform to platform until he was clear of the spindle’s reach.

He wasted no time making his way over to the second part of the course. As he climbed up the ladder, he took a deep breath and hoped he’d have an easier time with this one, this time.

He jerked a look toward the third part of the course when he heard Hye-jin scream, and he waited where he was for now. At least until he knew if she was okay.

((Didn’t forget this time!))

Rhys exhaled with relief when Hye-jin surfaced. Since she seemed to be okay, he focused back on the task at hand and started out across the trampoline. The surface here was slick, too, and he went to his knees when his foot slipped out from under him. That seemed to work in his favor, however, allowing him to duck low under the oversized ornament that came swinging toward him. Once he was clear, he scrambled forward and stayed low until he was clear of the trampoline.

He glanced back to check on Hye-jin and grinned when he realized she’d already cleared the first obstacle again. “Get it!” he called to her. Then he turned his attention toward the third and final leg of the course.

Since Dris was only about to start that one, Rhys took his time hopping from platform to platform and making his way to the base of the scaffolding. “Come on, sweetheart! You’ve got this!” He clapped his hands together to urge his partner on, then threw his fists in the air when the bard reached the top. “Nicely done, love! Way to go!” He had to laugh when he spotted the fireworks.

Rhys Germain Rolled 1, 20 sided die: [16] : Mod: 5 for Total: 21

Rhys could barely see Dris up there at the top of the scaffolding now that he was at the base of it, but he could hear him. “You can do it!” he called to Hye-jin, in echo.

Then he turned his attention back to the tower, the last piece he had to conquer. After taking another deep breath, he started to climb. Wary of slipping on the wood, he didn’t rush himself. “Slow and steady,” he murmured to himself as he went. “Slow and steady.”

Because he was taking his time, his hands and feet were sure upon the ledges. Eventually, he reached the top without mishap, and he spilled over onto the wood with a big sigh of relief. “I did it.” His declaration was much more deadpan than Dris’ had been!
