Challenge for the Tower of Water

At the May 2022 Archmage Tournament, I picked up this neat little second place prize called the Keeper's Blessing. I thought to myself, who better to test this Elemental Fury Crystal out on than the man I helped introduce to the sport in the first place! So here I am, issuing challenge to you. I'm eager to see how much you have improved since we first faced each other in the practice ring many moons ago. What say you?

Ettyn will be behind the bar as much as possible during the challenge - but she and the serving goblins all know the recipes for tonight's challenge drinks!



In honor of the reigning Keeper of Water, the Twilight Isle ringside bar will be serving Texas Twirlers! Made with Big Red soda, orange juice, vodka and a splash of club soda - but a mocktail option is available, substituting the vodka with another part club soda.



And for the challenger and holder of the Keeper's Blessing, a Mean Fiddler (he's not mean, but it's a mean drink)! Made with Irish and scotch whisky, green chartreus, sweet vermouth, campari, cinnamon syrup, and angostura bitters, and garnished with - of course - a maraschino cherry.

Tonight we saw Sheridan Driscoll fight his challenge to Jackson Payne for the Tower of Water. Dris won the Keeper's Blessing in the last Archmage Tournament and decided to use it for this.

Jackson couldn't be there, but he sent a golem named Billy as his proxy, and gave him his speaking manner. Billy hoped to help Jackson get a second defense for his reign as Keeper of Water.

All three matches were fought in Poseidon.

The first match started with Dris in the lead, and left Billy playing catchup. Dris reached match point in the sixth round, and Billy scored again in the seventh, but a trade in the eighth meant Dris won the first match.

Billy started the second match in the lead. Dris started to catch up in the fourth and fifth rounds, but Billy pulled away with the help of illusory copies of himself and won the match in the eighth round.

The third round saw Dris open in the lead and race to match point by the third round. Billy staved off a shutout with a defense in the fourth round. But after mirrored spells and no score in the fifth round, Dris found his way to a win and the Key of Water in the sixth.

Well cast to you both, and well won to the new Keeper of Water, Sheridan Driscoll.
