For those unfamiliar (or rusty) with how it worked with the other sports, here’s the gist of it:
1. Players post in this thread, three-four nominees for a 64-duelist fantasy tournament structured like DoS Madness. A nomination is not a guaranteed entrance, but seeing as the pool of DoM duelists is smaller than the other sports, it’s a strong likelihood that with a little justification, most people nominated will be added. I am running this not as staff but as a private player and as such, I have final say. Please do NOT nominate your own character. Due to the fact that this is an OOC tournament with no actual duels occurring, there will be no limit on the number of characters played by any one player. Strong nominations include characters that have achieved measurable dueling accomplishments, rather than "fun characters" that may be amusing in play but haven’t accomplished feats in the sport. Consider characters throughout the breadth of DoM history; after all, there are 2 decades of it to choose from. Nominations run until we get 64, or until roughly the beginning of April, whichever comes first. And they start right… about… now.
2. After nominations are sent in, I (and whoever else I wrangle to help sift through the histories) will rank all 64 players based on a variety of DoM accomplishments. They will then be seeded according to those rankings; i.e, numbers 1 through 4 are 1st seeds,numbers 5 through 8 are 2nd seeds, and so on.
3. Tournament matches will be set up and decided by poll voting on the post, which will also include historical and other information about the characters. As Duel of Magic typically operates in best of three formats for challenges, there will be four options:
- Duelist A wins, 2-0 in a Best of Three
- Duelist A wins, 2-1 in a Best of Three
- Duelist B wins, 2-0 in a Best of Three
- Duelist B wins, 2-1 in a Best of Three.
Base your vote on two criteria: who you think is better at dueling, and who you think would win the particular matchup. Arrive at this conclusion however you wish but please remember, this is about skill, not popularity, especially since many of these combatants haven't been around for years.
Votes are restricted to one per player per matchup. Do not vote on additional accounts. With each matchup, I'll try to provide some stats and background, as well as any other information that might be beneficial to your decision. In addition to voting, the thread is for adding any perspective and information that you may wish to add.
Once nominations and brackets are made, I’ll try to run the first round over the course of 2 weeks, with subsequent rounds being completed in 1 week increments. This isn’t a hard and fast guarantee on timeline, as I’ll be doing this in my free time outside of my work, school, DoM, and personal life commitments. So please have patience with me!
