Winterfest 2021: The Yule Ball (Dec 17th)

Post by Strawberry »

The Yule Ball

Prepare for a winter wonderland and a very (black and) blue Yule and venture by way of horse drawn carriage to a castle on the hill at the far north edge of Seaside. Enjoy the thousands of lights that decorate the path there and the tens of thousands that light up the castle where the ball will be held. Pass through a courtyard of ice sculptures on your way into the castle where Rhydin’s hottest DJs spin tunes for party goers in a ballroom bathed in blue light over black tablecloths, chairs, and other decor.

Passed hors d'oeuvres and drinks compliment a seated meal from a five star menu and magical snow falls overhead without ever touching patrons or their food. Find each of the unique trees stationed throughout the manor and drop by the drawing room to talk with Krampus about whether or not you deserve a present this year. Spoiler… the Governor says you do, so the well paid Krampus will assuredly send you on your way with a neat little gift or two.

Enjoy dinner, including pancetta-wrapped beef tenderloin with whipped horseradish cream, cherry pecan baked brie, prime rib, herbed potato stacks, balsamic green beans with pearl onions, mini corn cakes with smoked salmon and dill creme fraiche, and deserts like yule log chocolate cake, pumpkin pecan cheesecake, and acadian syrup cake with roasted pears and caramel sauce.

Don’t forget the drinks-- who could?

Row 1: Hot buttered rum, cranberry mimosa, classic hot toddy
Row 2: Bourbon berry punch, mistletoe cranberry martini, the Grinch (midori, cherry, and citrus)
Row 3: Mulled wine, Holly Jolly (vodka, elderflower liqueur, and freshly squeezed orange juice), white hot chocolate (with or without alcohol)

The party goes until the last revelers take their leave, ushered back to the city in horse drawn carriages once more. Be sure to grab your gift basket on the way out.

With the Minister of Culture came the Minister of Technology. Rhys arrived with Dris, ready to schmooze and dance the night away.

Reign borrowed from her sister's closet to find something suiting for the theme;

Ettyn was there! Maybe a little late, or maybe a little preoccupied with someone using swords to make ice sculptures outside, or the food and drink spread inside; but she was there! She'd originally picked out a red dress for the event, but hearing of the theme, swapped it out for something dark blue with a gauzy layer, and black heels with a silver sword down the back of each -- a nod to the spurs she had once favored, and given up to a shrine as she'd come into closer balance with nature and the Wilds.

She did keep a little red, however -- a pop of it on the soles, which she had it on good authority from a friend that it was always a good thing.

Anya was in attendance. She arrived on time but left early, begging off to finish some work in the busy holiday season. While there, she availed herself of a few more drinks than she should have if she wanted accurate accounting at the end of the night, but seemed confident she'd manage.

True to her prior statements on dance, she was happy to participate when the music took a turn towards the classical end of the spectrum. She left those who had developed a taste for the more modern alone when things came back to the present.

She added a black velvet choker to her sleeveless gown and wore her hair loose, a rare departure from her usual braid.

The current Overlord of the Duel of Swords himself, Salvador Delahada, made an appearance.
Though he kept the socializing to a minimum, he was accompanied by El Gatito and Rekah.

For the second year in a row, the gatito arrived at the Yule Ball with Rekah Illyriana on his arm. And this time, he convinced Salvador to come along, too, much to his delight. Feeling a little emboldened by the Spaniard’s presence, he switched things up and chose a more feminine silhouette for the evening, wearing a floor-length gown with a plunging neckline and a skirt overlaid with tulle. He kept his accessories simple, opting for drop earrings and a delicate body chain that glimmered against his golden skin. His dark curls bore a hint of midnight blue color, fitting the evening’s theme.

Yule Ball sounded festive to Jin.. so she went with something festive!
Nevermind the awkwardness of seeing many others in more formal attire.

Angel opted to show up perhaps a bit late, and dressed for the occasion as he always does. With careful attention to detail and a freely offered smile.

With him was Brinna, who did not wear the dress he'd chosen for her, much to his chagrin. She, however, seemed rather pleased with herself, and danced with any that agreed to do a waltz with her.

After a stressful weekend and Monday following it, you decided that you just wanted to stay away from Rhy'Din the whole week until the one upcoming event that you knew was going to be a good time. So after you got wind of the yule ball's theme, you holed up in your apartment and got to work on making your own outfit, because you knew it would be therapeutic and fulfilling. You were sending WIP pictures to your lovers the whole time, and now it's done. The snowflakes actually do glitter on this one, which felt scary to try to do, but after the glitter was sealed, ended up looking really pretty!

While you plan to be accompanied by your lovers, you are more than happy to dance with anyone who asks, and in any style they wish. But you'll be especially happy to dance with anyone who can spin you well, because like all your other long full-circle skirts, this baby flies real good.
