A Wake for All Saints 2 (Board Event)

Post by Strawberry »

Follow the black flame trails for a night of scary delights once more…

Courtesy of the Baroness of Battlefield Park, for one night only the Baron’s haunted armory has been opened once more to all souls living and dead for an evening of tricks and treats. Bring your best costume and maybe your cutest arm candy for drinks, dinner, dancing, and more than a few scares.

Take the walking trail from New Haven or the carriage road from Seaside, both promise their share of spooks and screams.

Upon arriving at the Armory, guests are led down a corridor flanked on either side by creaking and groaning suits of armor, each armed with a different weapon, all of which have been recently polished to a shine. Upon closer inspection, each one seems to be a replica of weapons used by past Overlords and long reigning Barons. Current and former squires might even be able to pick out the Squire weapons amongst the less flashy suits of armor.

At the end of the hallway, guests are welcomed by their first choice of the night. Left, right, or straight ahead?

The party begins when the clock strikes nine and doesn’t end until the night’s last specters disappear with the dawn of All Saint’s Day. Unlike the ghosts of Battlefield Park, you can leave at any time, but feel free to stay (or come back!) for a morning after breakfast before returning to the city. A limited number of private rooms have been appointed for guests along with temperature regulated camping digs on the Battlefield Park grounds.

Guests and parents, please be advised that this event is intended for adults or those of comparable maturity. Those under the age of eighteen will not be permitted without a guardian and a liability waiver signed prior to entrance.

((Just a board event to celebrate the evening. Feel free to play off of it however you wish. Post here, reference it in live play, play some of it in one of the rooms, ignore it completely, the possibilities are endless. Click the links above to jump to the associated post for that feature for more info!

Feel free to post your character’s outfit or costume to this thread. As you’ll find later in the thread, there will be a costume contest! Winners will be chosen by dice roll in the Green Room sometime on 11/3 just to give people plenty of time to post. Winners get an icon and an in character prize, for more information on all of that keep reading!

Thank you to Anya for letting Karma borrow the armory for the night. I appreciate it!))

The Path of Hushed Whispers

Depart from the western edge of upscale New Haven and venture into the dark of Battlefield Park. Your path begins beneath a high wooden arch of grinning jack-o-lanterns and from there, your way is lit by the full moon above and the flickering black flame wisps that dance along the leaf strewn dirt trail.

It isn’t a far walk from there to the Armory but be sure not to stray too far from the path, lest your night go south fast. The howling of wolves and glowing eyes beyond the treeline follow those making the trek so even if you leave New Haven alone, you’re certain not to be lonely long. A lovely woman in traditional Vistani garb offers those passing by a chance to have their fortune told by the (in)famous Raven Lady. Follow her to their camp just off the path for a drink and a story by the fire or step into the Raven Lady’s tent for a reading. Take care not to rudely decline their hospitality or you may find your luck changing in the coming days, often for the worse.

Whether you venture through the camp or continue on your way, your final destination comes with the gates of Battlefield Park’s haunted armory. Here beneath the creak of branches fast losing their leaves you will find wisps and specters alike, unable or perhaps unwilling to admit that they are no longer amongst the living. Here the black flame wisps turn purple and beckon you to the open doors of the armory beyond. Watch your step though, you never know just what may be under foot!

The Horseman’s Trail

From Seaside, take the scenic route to the party by way of unmanned carriages, which have been repurposed from horse drawn funeral hearses. The seats are crisp pine lined with soft crimson velvet. The typical glass sides of the hearse-carriage have been removed, allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy the autumn chill. Hot cider (spiked or not) is available for purchase before departure. Once your carriage departs, there is no turning back (at least until you get to the end and hop a ride back!)

As you cross the candlelit Horseman’s Bridge, a curious moaning greets your ears on the other side. Alarmed cries ring out and the pop-pop-pop of gunfire answers. For a moment, the forest goes still. At least until the moment you get across the bridge where pale figures wearing military uniforms of far bygone eras greet you. They speak of an incursion and beg for your help. If you decline (and who would blame you?), their demeanor changes quickly and their visage becomes that of spectral ghouls that chase your carriage down the left-hand path and into the safety of the forest beyond. If you agree, you are soon given all you need to assist them in defending Battlefield Park down the right-hand path.

A zombie hoard has risen from the grave and it is up to you to remedy it! Your ghostly commanders ensure all willing bodies are properly outfitted with top of the line paintball guns and an endless supply of neon colored ammo for maximum satisfaction in the splatter. Upon closer look, the zombies appear to never get close enough to the carriages to get their teeth in anyone, but their unsettling groans sure do sound convincing. Hold off the hoard and your reward is in safe passage to the armory beyond.

The Left Course - The Black Tower

Should you take the left hallway, you’re in for a treat. At the end of the hallway is a single door leading to a winding staircase that seems to climb up, up, up for an eternity.

No sooner do you (and maybe your group) get into the stairwell does the door slam shut behind you, locking you within the tower. Your only choice is to get moving. Unlike last year, the stairs go down, winding deep into the basement of the tower. Water drips from broken cracks and leaves the entire place smelling dank and mildewy. When you reach the bottom, you find yourself in a crypt.

Quiet as the dead…

But anyone who has spent any amount of time in Rhydin knows that the dead seldom tend to stay that way for very long!

There you are greeted by a pair of ghostly children, a little girl named Rose and her much smaller brother, Thorn. Rose begs for you or your group’s help because there’s a monster in the tower that has taken their baby brother, Walter. They don’t know what the monster looks like, but they say they can hear its howling. As if on queue, a mournful howl echoes through the tower, chilling your blood and making the already ghostly children even more pale.

So begins your “fight” through the Black Tower, where you must solve riddles and find Walter before it’s too late. Creep through the crypt to find the secret passage upwards. Wander through the drawing room and the Den of Wolves, but watch your step lest trapdoors send you sliding back to the crypt below. Will you be tempted by a ghostly feast in the grand dining hall? Perhaps the spectral maid can convince you to sit down and get comfy for a little while in the study.

Can you find the hidden room with the clues that may lead you to Walter? You’ll come to find out the little boy has been taken not by a monster as the children had thought but rather by his own cultist parents who are readying to sacrifice him to a dark lord. Not that dark lord, Potterheads, settle down.

Race against time and past cultists as you climb the rest of the way to the top of the tower. Find clues, answer (silly) questions, complete puzzles, and explore the secrets of the Black Tower. When at last you reach the penultimate floor, there you will find a circle of cultists around a baby (doll). Rose and Thorn make one last appearance to arm you for your battle to save their brother. Of course it seems to be with paint filled water balloons… but it’s sure to be a messy fight, keep your wits about you and rescue Walter!

Once the cultists are defeated and Walter is once more with his (ghostly) siblings, the tower is calm once more and you are victorious!

After one last flight of stairs, you emerge on the viewing deck of the armory’s watch tower. There you can see most of the manor’s grounds illuminated by moonlight and flickering flame of torches and bonfires alike. Bask in your victory, take some selfies (or have our photographer snap your victory shot!) and then make your way down the tower by way of a pair of open air slides that twist and turn down around the tower to the ground floor, sending you hurtling back to the bottom at breakneck speeds. Go solo or race a friend! Just be sure to mind the stop at the end and then head back inside to check out the other festivities.

The Right Course - Howl at the Moon Trip

Venture down the right hand corridor and through the great oak door to find yourself outside once more. There you are greeted by druids in festive garb that offer you a queer treat* and an offer to join them on the Howl-o-ween Run through the woods. Regardless of if you partake in their earthy offering, you’re still welcome to run with the druids on a jaunt through the woods as they pay their respects to the Hunter’s Moon, mother earth, and the thinning of the veil.

Soak in the sights and sounds of the forest at night and revel in the full moon’s light. Run beneath the trees and through the creeks on a journey to the Druid King’s Camp, a festive and boisterous party within a party set not far from the haunted armory.

There you can indulge in more illicit offerings if you so choose. Completely optional! Open your mind, howl at the moon, laugh and sing around the giant bonfire. Carve a jack-o-lantern and then smash it to bits in an offering to the changing of seasons and the coming decay of autumn and winter. Explore your artistry and then give it back to the earth in a beautiful splattering of pumpkin chunks.

Then when you’re ready to return, follow the spider’s trail back to the armory and the safety of the manor’s gates. Be mindful not to cross the chains that block off the marked graves as we do not wish to disturb the spirits more than they already are.

((*They’re plainly marked as potentially hallucinogenic and anyone taking one is given a warning as such. The treats may invoke visual or auditory hallucinations, distortions in the environment, an opening of the mind, and other interesting effects. Feel free to use it however you wish.))

Dead Ahead - The Dinner Wake of All Saints

Through a grand set of double doors, venture into the ballroom where dinner and more awaits. The eerie tunes of a band playing all of their songs in the minor key offers a mournful soundtrack for dancers and dinner guests alike.

Long tables draped in gauzy white tablecloths and set with fine crystal place settings, pitch black centerpieces, and pure white candles are set around the perimeter of the ballroom, offering plenty of seating to those entering. Waiters, both living and spectral, bring around menus and serve drinks to the hungry and the parched.

After dinner, spend the night dancing to the musical stylings of the Ghostastic Four, a string quartet fronted by self proclaimed siren vocalist and DJ, Callisise. Their tunes are sure to enchant you the whole night through, especially once the band hangs up their instruments so Callisise can break out the turntables for a late night set of post-EDM and house music.

Be sure to break out the best of the best costume-wise, for Callisise will be judging you accordingly and handing out prizes for the best dressed!

((Please post your costumes to this thread. Winners will be chosen by RNG on 11/3))

Wake Awake - The Morning After

Crash at the manor or take refuge in one of a number of Vistani-themed tents set up on the armory’s grounds and then chase away the hangover with a breakfast buffet to send you on your way. Featuring bottomless mimosas and bloody marys, a build your own omelette bar, and a hauntingly delicious waffle station, there’s sure to be something to sate all appetites.

Then take a moment of reflection to pay your respects to the fallen who call Battlefield Park home while you wait to catch a ride on a carriage back to Seaside or take the walking path back to New Haven. Just be sure you don’t take any ghostly hitchhikers with you.

Karma could be found throughout the evening, channeling her best Morticia Addams;

The hostess of the evening indulged in all the things and was first to offer to go with if someone was unsure of one of the activities. She probably ran both the tower climb and the howl-o-ween run dozens of times throughout the night. Only briefly did she have to abscond to take a few urgent phone calls that seemed to dampen her mood just slightly when she returned. But not for long! She quickly returned to her peppy, party-girl self soon after!

What was Morticia (besides awesome in all the ways) without Gomez?

Well, Caleb tried his best to be the Gomez fitting for this Morticia.

At all times, there seemed to be a cigar in his hand, and when Kar... Morticia vanished, he seemed to grow despondent, as if the moon had gone from the night, leaving the stars to fade in it's missing light.
Though you may run, you can never hide..

There’s a Muse in the air that loves to howl at the Moon to her favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll tune, so naturally, she’s on the road to that particular trip.

She looks like she stepped out of that nebulous time in Rock ‘n’ Roll of post Woodstock, but pre-punk Rock. Somewhere between Band-Aids and Flying Garter Girls—not a death rattle, but a thinning of a different kind of veil—a last kiss goodbye. It’s all a golden age and it’s all happening to this wild child with her hair all done up in a catch me if you can crown of Botticelli Venus curls that the wind has its way with before the night is through.

The voluminous coat is worn like a shield between her and the “real world,” the white top beneath is a rather gauzy affair—a vintage blouse that looked as if you’d pull the strings here, it would fall to pieces there. White eyelet at the bottom of the blouse gave just glimpses of all that flawless skin peek through —just like the peeks of raw vulnerability on Penny’s face when she found out she was sold to Humble Pie for 50 bucks and a case of beer. Right before that smile through the tears and that c’est la vie breeze of a hand through blonde curls as if she couldn’t let on the record had scratched before she asked, “What kind of beer?”

It’s only Rock ‘n’Roll, but she likes it.

The moon worships the skin she’s in and even though those boots were made for walking, she’s running with the Druids.
Did she partake in the more illicit offerings? A certain little Lady never tells, but there’s a secret, citrine gleam in blue-gold eyes, and her howl is such a pretty croon beneath that full Hunter’s Moon.

The boots didn’t last long when she kicks them off to dance around the bonfire with fellow revelers, laughing with pure, joyous abandon. Though at a certain point, Alara might have been seeing and hearing things as the night wore on that weren’t really there. The eerie tune of a haunted music box had the shifter’s skin shivering, or a blade turned scalpel as it carved into the flesh of a pumpkin, but perhaps it was a trick of the firelight.

She carves her own secret words into her pumpkin that make her smile before she smashes it like a bottle and so many memories that got broken like a backstage prop.

This Penny Lane knows better not to disturb The Dead, for they might be missing more than Jerry and have a hankering for her elusive life force that could not be harvested, not even under this beautiful Hunter’s Moon, so she blows them a kiss instead.

This Black Magic Woman is sampling one or two of those jello shots before she’s out to find more mischief for the night. Who knows which path the Hunter’s Moon might illuminate next for the woman. Maybe she’d steal away to Morocco for a night to find a new crowd.

Anya had been enjoying her time a Battlefield Park, getting to know the ghosts and their stories. But tonight took it to an entirely different level. She was thrilled to have the Governor hosting at the Barony and even more excited to be able to explore it again with all of its new spooky trappings. She'd almost gotten used to wandering the halls with spirits. The change of scenery was more than welcome.

Throughout the night, she rarely stayed in one place. Her goal was to see everything Karma had put together which meant she was on the move winding through the expansive attractions in a dress that nearly made her one of them.

Maggie revived a costume she'd worn before and had borrowed from her aunt. She visited the cemetery near the Haunted Armory. Most of spirits seem to enjoy the festive atmosphere even if it was only to scare the bejesus out of people!

It was easy to have a costume when she had wings of her own! The redhead wandered the grounds and took in the sights, staying through all of the festivities (even if she was quiet for much of the time).

Silver-and-red hair was bound in a low, loose knot by orange ribbons and black-striped silver dragon wings rested loosely behind her, emerging from her shoulderblades above the lower neckline.

Kira had nearly forgotten about the party at Battlefield Park. She had not originally intended to go, but between her injury and feeling stir crazy from her recovery, she decided to make an appearance. As it turned out, Governor Karma had recently sent her a dress as a gift, and it only seemed appropriate to debut it at Karma’s own party. As an added touch, she carried with her a wolf-head cane to use as support.

She took things slow and spent the majority of her time socializing with those available. She took in the sights that she could, but felt it was best to not push herself. Doubtless, there were some present who would reminder of such.

Since one of your girlfriends has opted to emphasize looking really really nice over a more costume-y look, you have opted to show solidarity with her using your black and teal formal dress.

Due to recent, uh, mishaps... you are very protective of Kira tonight.
