Challenge for Cadentia (Velgr’s Generosity Grant)

Post by Rhys Germain »

Late Tuesday evening, a folded letter addressed to Anubis Karos was left pinned to the cork board in the Arena. The paper was plain, without a letterhead, and the words were printed by hand.

Lord Karos,

My partner and I share many wonderful memories of the desert and, having been given a challenge grant, I have decided I would like the chance to make some more there with him. I challenge you for your barony in Cadentia.

—R. Germain

A copy of this letter was later sent to the baronial seat in Cadentia.

To the one who is known as "R. Germain",

Challenge is accepted. But...I do have to enquire...you know that you could have purchased an adobe cottage or constructed a Desert Modernist villa instead of bothering me? You mention my name once in greeting, and then say nothing of me, the ring, or the duels, only waxing fondly of the desert. I suspect that you have only seen the smile in her sunset, and have no clue of her anger. I also suspect that you have no respect for this bloodsport whatsoever, and see it as a spot of fun before your epicurean jaunt.

I hope that you prove otherwise. For your sake.

Lord Karos,

As I mentioned previously, I received a grant and that influenced my decision to challenge. Cadentia is beautiful and that is reason enough for me.

You don’t have to approve of that reason; you only have to fight me. Meet me in the Arena on Monday at 9 o’clock and you can tell me more about the wrath of the desert.

This fight happened tonight and it were a rollicking good show, aye?

This here challenge came to us via the Velgr Generosity Grant. The Grant were given to the challenger Rhys Germain, by the Champion of the Might of the Dragon, Rachael Blackthorne. The Grant allowed Rhys a test-free challenge!

Rhys fought under the colors of black and silver. He had no second, but his person of honor was his partner Dris.

The defender of the barony of Cadentia was the Golden Wolf, the Reality of Nyarlothep, the Lord of Tears, Anubis Karos. Anubis fought under the banner of the silver Eye of Ra, graced with a cobra lacing through the eye, emerging with hood flayed and fangs bared from the eye and a black banner. The Baron's second was the Overlord himself, Salvador Delahada, and his Lady of Honor was Tetra in absentia.

The Baron selected to settle the match in a single fight!

Fighting with a matching pair of serried daggers, the Baron was the first on the board but started things off with a kick more fitting of the Outback than the Arena! Fighting with a unique long sword of his own, Rhys was able to answer quickly, but couldn't get away clean, getting on the board while the Baron still maintained his lead. Both fighters were looking for openings, but they wound up trading blows again, with Rhys chasing the leading still. After the fighters re-set themselves in the ring, the Baron managed to land a blistering uppercut that seemed to stagger his opponent and brought him to matchpoint! Rhys tried to bring it back, but Anubis followed up with a stab of his dagger to close out the match!

Anubis Karos def. Rhys Germain, 5 - 2 in 7 rounds.

Well-tried Rhys! Congratulations to Baron Karos on his first defense!
