Hunters Guild Presents: Volcanic Panic!

Post by Hunters Guild »

Image

While nothing more than a light quake; easily overlooked by the hustle and bustle of the city of RhyDin, far to the north an eruption occurred! Awoken from their molten slumber Magma Turtle Dragons have begun to wreak havoc!

Their insatiable hunger have caused the
Northern Dire Boar to escape to the south — and in doing so they have begun to invade the city and need to be stopped!

The Hunters Guild calls upon seasoned hunters and would be adventurers alike to both clear the streets of this dire boar mess and also quell the magma-spewing beasts that caused the problem in the first place.

GOLD MARK
SILVER MARK
BRONZE MARK

WANTED: Magma Turtle Dragons

These Magma Turtle Dragons stand at a height of twenty feet and are extremely dangerous. There have been sightings of them in the northern regions of the Wilds as well as a few roaming some miles north of Seaside Beach.

Be advised that they are following the Dire Boar trail and will no doubt attempt to enter the city from these two locations.

Currently the guild is investing just how long these creatures have been slumbering beneath the earth. It has been discovered that they are of draconic heritage, they do spit molten lava, and Hunters are advised to consider the usage of fire resistant equipment and potions when dealing with them.

Attention: Fire Resistance Potions and Enchantments are now on sale at the Hunters Guild!

WANTED: Northern Dire Boar

No wonder the Magma Turtle Dragons are hunting these beasts... they have a really good taste to them. Though like anything that tastes good; it can be bad for you. These Dire Boar can go into a rage and will relentlessly fight to the death. With bone crushing jaws and body piercing tusks it would be best for Hunters to use traps against them.

COLLECT: Summersand

Summersand is contaminated sand near the fallen meteroite at Seaside Beach. Gatherers will need to do a good bit of digging to find pockets of Summersand.

Warning: Do not touch Summersand with your bare hands as there is a high possibility of terrible rash breaking out. If you are inflicted with a summersand rash please visit the Hunters Guild and purchase a salve for a modest fee.

=== Streets of RhyDin: 2021-08-31 @ 11 ===
[11:13:10] Death Knell: A small herd of Northern dire boars had squeezed its way through a narrow break in the city walls between Dragon's Gate and Battlefield Park, a relic of some previous conflict -- marked by the arcane forces that caused stone and mortar to melt into a single substance in spirals. Unconsciously, Ettyn followed more of the reality-warping patterns that went down the dead-end alley while she focused on the trail left by the boars: scorching tracks, and the competing smells of fur, sweat, boiling spit, and charcoal. The hoof prints were different sizes, though subtly, and she eventually picked out five in all.
[11:14:37] Death Knell: She stayed low to the ground, her half-plate armor (mithril mail and dwarf-steel plates and flexible chimera-hide) surprisingly quiet for its bulk. Black eyes were wary, flickering over her surroundings, and she continued to sniff the air and listen as she crept down the alley.
[11:19:58] Death Knell: Around the corner from her, not as far from the intersection of the dead-end alley and the narrow wall-side street as she'd hoped, were five of the boars rooting and snuffling their way through a farmer's market. The florist's and butcher's stalls were both being ransacked, clay pots shattering, dirt scattering, as well as bloody -- now sizzling -- meat being dragged across the cobblestones, grasped and torn in the boar's fiery jaws. They did not see, hear, or smell her -- especially not surrounded by the enticing smells of the city, and these boars were careless and impulsive trackers by nature. She adjusted the quiver at her back, unshouldered her heavy war-bow, nocked an arrow...
[11:20:18] Death Knell: ...held her breath, but as if she never needed to breathe to begin with...
[11:26:50] Death Knell: Four arrows flew in rapid succession, striking the boars in their broad necks or their flanks. On the third, she focused, eyes darkening as she drew further back, and struck where she knew hide and muscle were the weakest, and the path to the heart was the most open. One of the boars dropped with a shriek, and the others wheeled around, some limping. In one smooth motion she drew back into the alley from the corner, slinging the bow back to her shoulder, and brought her hands together. With an unearthly *wail*, a longsword of flickering light and shadow appeared in her grasp. She dug her feet in and waited, baring her teeth. The boars sounded *furious*.
[11:29:37] Nexus Guide: Garlthuin has entered
[11:32:58] Death Knell: She did not *quite* wait for them to arrive. She heard them thundering along, hooves skittering with the *whoosh* and sizzle of flames and sparks as they began to turn, and spun out to face them. The unharmed boar was not leading the charge but coming up to flank her, hoping to charge her down with its strength. She swung out wide to catch it across its chest, and had to dig in and brace herself to keep from falling when she stopped it, losing her momentum and the follow-through she'd hoped for. The blade was wailing *louder* now, mournfully, and darkness enveloped it -- necrotic pulses empowered each strike as she twisted the weapon twice, sharply, and the boar let out another high-pitched shriek and dropped. Three left, and about to converge on her.
[11:35:29] Garlthuin: Noises, sounds not usually heard within Rhïdin's high, stone walls were heard. The discussion with Zokar was cut short. Both of them rose from a their crouched positions on the highest of the ancient buildings of the old city. Zokar simply gave a nod that Gar saw in his peripheral. It was enough and the Ágra-lem launched from that stony perch to take flight. He cut through the air with the sky above and the streets and buildings below.
[11:38:09] Garlthuin: Wings beat on the wind strong and shoved him forward and turned, alternating course and height where he needed to along the way. One of his ears turned and his battle-scarred face turned to the left. Whole form thrust off that air-path without another thought until he found the beasts that were making the noise. Skors and sword were not pulled. They were not called for or necessary yet. Sounding like a dragon on some distant wind, he hovered above with a slow, rhythmic beat of his wings...and watched to see what was fully going on.
[11:39:59] Death Knell: Ettyn twisted the blade out and watched and listened as the three boars encircled her. One charged her extended leg and whooshed past as she stepped back at the right moment. The second pressed into her space, letting out a porcine scream as it tried to press its tusks into her middle, not quite reaching as she backed a step away, and she pivoted back again; this time, it was to hip-check against an attack on her thigh, the third boar clattering noisily against the dwarf-steel plates protecting her there.
[11:43:44] Death Knell: Something was flying overhead, wingbeats like a dragon... she looked over her shoulder briefly, grit her teeth, and pressed the attack again. Whatever was coming, that split-second was all she could spare. She brought the blade down powerfully, nearly severing a boar's head with the first strike, then bashing her knee under its jaw to complete the cut with a spray of boiling blood that steamed against her armor. For her size and bulk, she moved *fast* -- the follow-through built into a half-pirouette that severed blood vessels, nearly but not quite collapsing the last two boars. They remained standing, ready to press the attack again.
[11:44:08] Death Knell: The closest sign of their destruction outside of the alley was the hastily abandoned farmer's market, with its scattered supplies and a few smoldering stalls.
[11:45:08] Garlthuin: The Gar hovered a few minutes more. Perhaps she could handle this. He would not assume. One green eye narrowed in his study of her and the beasts. His right hand rested on the hilt of a sheathed, large stone-sword at his side. Wings worked up and down, defying the air around him and easily staying aloft even when the next rush of wind came through. When he saw her blade come down towards one creature, he dove towards one of the other two.
[11:47:47] Garlthuin: Like a fierce spear through clear water, the Ágra-lem cut through the air head-first until he was close enough to coil into a landing of clawed feet. A massive wingspan of twenty or so feet was drawn in close to his back without a though to it and the stone-sword was already out of its sheathe by the time talons found cobblestones. A shreek did damage to some ears as he killed the second of the animals before green eyes looked about for the third.
[11:52:51] Death Knell: Ettyn began to duck away from that wingspan, though it was drawn in as Gar landed, and a quick flicker of her gaze determined what she had hoped for -- this one seemed to be hunting the beasts that had thundered into the city from the Northern Wilds instead of her. She bared a toothy grin at him, stretching the scars on her face with the expression, then looked back to the last wounded boar. Once again it tried to press into her middle, this time with some contact its tusks scraping over mithril mail and embers dissipating harmlessly against chimera-hide. She'd been lucky to get through this fight unscathed. She didn't press it. She twisted away from the attempted strike, holding her sword high and at an angle down towards it, and let it sink into its chest and through its heart with a final flare of necrotic power.
[11:53:52] Death Knell: The final boar collapsed. The black mist that had emanated from the first seeped out of the other creatures now, too, and all seemed to be flowing into her, darkening her lightless black eyes. The longsword in her grasp, Dawn's Strife, continued its mournful wailing.
[11:57:47] Garlthuin: The Ágra-lem half expected fear to be in her eyes, but her grin told him another story. A satisfied chuff sounded deeply from the stone-guardian's chest. The third beast taken down was left to Ettyn while he rose to his full height, looking like a huge, stony statue that had come to life. Green eyes that could see in the day as well as night searched the area around them. "Any others?" Guttural sounds of words sounding like they were being dragged over rocks. Asked before he finally look back at her and the longsword she held. The wings were fully tucked behind him as he turned about slowly to look upon her and the already fallen boars.
