As Friday April 30th dawned, a thrum of excitement rose in the mirror clearing in anticipation of the naming of the May Queen and the opening of the way across the Veil and to the Fires. Those milling about sprouted into an impromptu festival by mid-morning. It started slow, with a young dryad selling roasted nuts from her tree to those gathered. From there, it quickly grew with vendors continuing to join the party and pitching tents and carts in the small clearing and into the growth of trees on the edge until by the evening the woods were several booths deep in a half-circle around the mirror.
Vendors mundane and magical called out, selling food, goods, and wares. Not to miss a chance, the enterprising owners of the Red Dragon Inn sent their mobile bar drawn by a unicorn and manned by a spunky dwarf standing on a keg until Conner showed up in the evening to take over.
The bar, with some rustic seating dragged in from the woods nearby, had the clearest view of the mirror, brimming with the spirit visages of May Queens past and ones potentially to come. As the hour approached, two Druids emerged from the woods and took their stations beside the mirror, anticipating the moment when this year's May Queen would be announced.
