Post by Rhiannon Brock »

Baron von Trunk,

No one in my family has held Dockside, so, I would like to have a go at it. I look forward to meeting you in the ring.

That was the only thing written in reply on the corkboard. It was, however, penned in a very accepting shade of blue ink.

transcript of video record from the Dockside Challenge in the Arena on 2021-1-17, Tenball the beholder calling

Tenball: "Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and luggage! Welcome to the Arena! Tonight we have a challenge for the Barony of Dockside!"
Tenball: "Our challenger is Rhiannon Dawn Brock of House Túr Gairdín! She fights under a banner of a rearing black unicorn on a field of stars, bordered in purple! Her seconds are her husband, Eregor Túr Gairdín, and the Baron of Seaside, Salvador Delahada! Her court of honor is her husband and their three children, Alin, Lena, and Brian!"
Tenball: "Defending his status as reigning Baron of Dockside, we have Olaf von Trunk, fighting under a banner of Walgreens receipts, which might explain where he gets all of his assorted trinkets. His second is Robert the archeopteryx, and his person of honor is, ah, that guy at the Bistro counter!" He waved a tentacle towards the afortmentioned guy.
Rhiannon Brock: Rhi waved to the crowd.
Olaf von Trunk: Olaf creaked his lid open, and a live archaeopteryx let out a shrill cry and went flapping out to behind the counter. Those poor, poor Bistro employees.

....

Tenball: "Baron von Trunk, what format do you choose for tonight's challenge?"
Olaf von Trunk: Olaf threw a foam finger at Tenball. Only one, though, and it was holding up one finger, and it said #1! on it.
Rhiannon Brock: "Are we using Nerf?" Rhi watched as the foam finger flew!
Olaf von Trunk: It did not appear that Olaf had selected a weapon at this time.
Olaf von Trunk: So, who knew what he would choose!
Olaf von Trunk: The Beamer had run out of gas halfway through a portal.
Tenball: "Single duel it is! Nerf weapons at your discretion! Lady and luggage, please step into the ring and begin when ready!"
Static Rest: Olaf went waddling into the ring, not floating over the ropes -- definitely climbing over them -- just doing so without any limbs.
Rhiannon Brock: Rhi must have come prepped for a joust since she had a horse waiting, but not near the Bentley! She had a nerf lance as she headed for the ring.
Olaf von Trunk: The prehistoric bird had made its way into the Bistro kitchen, terrorizing the staff over the butternut squash.
Olaf von Trunk: It was definitely darting in and out of sight behind the Bistro counter, visible to those watching!

Ring Rogues 1: Olaf von Trunk scores! (HC / TH | 0 - 1, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Olaf von Trunk: He creaked open his lid -- and threw an opened and half-empty box of defrosted broccoli cheddar Hot Pockets at Rhiannon's head.
Tenball: "Rhi opens up by aiming her lance towards Olaf's top hinge, but the Trunk seems to feel that she isn't eating enough and counters with Hot Pockets!"
Rhiannon Brock: She tried to clunk Olaf's lid to keep it closed, but there were Hot Pockets flying! "Oh, heck, you, Olaf! Broccoli??"

Ring Rogues 2: Olaf von Trunk scores! (TH / FSS | 0 - 2, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Rhiannon Brock: She tried to poke at Olaf with the nerf lance, that wasn't working either!
Olaf von Trunk: He started disgorging a bunch of tiny Pogs -- mostly decorated with skulls, yin-and-yangs, holographic frogs, and the like -- at a high enough velocity towards her to launch himself back out of range of the attack.
Rhiannon Brock: She shook her head and laughed at both the voice and the Pogs in flight!
Tenball: "Olaf spews forth... what the heck are those? Anyway, the force of it jets him out of range and earns him another point. Two-naught, Olaf!"

Ring Rogues 3: No action this round. (LC / LC | 0 - 2, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Rhiannon Brock: Rhi dropped the ungainly nerf lance down on the ring floor.
Olaf von Trunk: He tried to disgorge a Swiffer Wet Jet but the handle got caught in his lid.
Tenball: "We get a break in the action as Rhi drops her Nerf lance while Olaf is trying to disgorge... a Swiffer? I'm sure they can use that to clean up after his second in the Bistro."

Ring Rogues 4: No action this round. (FDU / FSS | 0 - 2, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Rhiannon Brock: Rhi tucked and rolled to get away from whatever else Olaf might be spitting out!
Olaf von Trunk: He managed to get the Wet Jet out of and *under* himself and skidded around to the side.
Tenball: "Both of them take evasive action. Olaf, clean-up in Aisle Rogues!"

Nexus Guide: **Ring Rogues 5: Olaf von Trunk scores! (TH / FLP | 0 - 3, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Olaf von Trunk: The handle broke off, so he tossed it at her a split second before he went charging straight at her, groaning loudly, lid flapping wildly. Incoming!
Rhiannon Brock: Her horse may have been smarter than her rider. The black mare butted the back of Rhi's head with her nose. Whickering, Star stomped twice with a front hoof and the ironwood staff fell from her mouth the floor. Rhi didn't have time to get it in gear, so... staff and handle were having a meeting!
Olaf von Trunk: Belatedly realizing (somehow!) that there was an entire horse with him in the ring, his loud groans of defiance quickly turned to panic and distress.
Olaf von Trunk: He remembered what had happened the last time there had been a horse in the ring with him, even if it had been his own.
Rhiannon Brock: The horse was just outside the ring. Rhi got to her feet and now had a grip on her staff.
Tenball: "Rhi's horse takes the offensive on her behalf, but Olaf turns a broken handle into an aggressive defense, or possibly wild panic, to widen his lead! Three-naught in favor of the Trunk!" Beat. "Yes, definitely wild panic!"

Ring Rogues 6: Everybody scores! (HC / LC | 1 - 4, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Rhiannon Brock: Rhi twirled the staff and swung it at one of Olaf's hinges.
Olaf von Trunk: Maybe his vision(???) wasn't so good! The proximity of the horse had him waddling in circles as quickly as he could, too panicked to avoid that hinge strike, but it did send his wooden bulk careening towards her shins.
Olaf von Trunk: Unclear whether or not that was a deliberate strike.
Tenball: "We have a trade and Rhi is on the board with a swat at her opponent's hinge, but Olaf is at MATCH POINT! Can she turn it around, or will the Trunk close the lid on this challenge?"
Rhiannon Brock: Deliberate or not, Rhi was butted by a trunk and stumbled back, tail over teakettle!

Ring Rogues 7: No action this round. (SH / FSS | 1 - 4, Olaf von Trunk leads.)

Rhiannon Brock: Rhi set up a riposte, but the fast attack she expected didn't come.
Olaf von Trunk: Naturally, Olaf -- brave warrior that he was -- continued to run in circles, wailing woodenly about an animal that wasn't even in the ring with him.
Tenball: "And we're back to no scoring as Rhi poses to spring a trap while Olaf does the Steamer Shuffle in circles. Still four to one in favor of the Trunk."

Ring Rogues 8: Olaf von Trunk scores! (LC / TH | 1 - 5, Olaf von Trunk leads.)
FINAL: Olaf von Trunk def. Rhiannon Brock, 5 - 1 in 8 rounds.

Rhiannon Brock: A quick spin took the staff low as she tried to get some leverage under the trunk.
Olaf von Trunk: He came eye to, uh, lid with the horse outside of the ring, flapped his lid rapidly in distress (hard enough to rebound that strike), and went fleeing in the opposite direction. Right into and through Rhiannon, if she didn't avoid him!
Rhiannon Brock: Rhi went careening across the ring. Apparently in some weird tradition Trunkish dance.
Olaf von Trunk: The fans in the Dockside skybox clattered excitedly. Or maybe that was just them cleaning up the receipts.
Olaf von Trunk: Olaf ended up outside of the ring with Rhiannon, and seeing the completion of that traditional Trunkish move, bent the corners of his lid, wobbled side to side, and tipped forward in a very strange luggage-y bow. The dictates of decorum had finally cut through his hippophobia!
Tenball: "And that's it, folks! Rhi tries to apply a bit of leverage, but Olaf charges right into her to take the match and retain his Barony! Well defended, Olaf, and well tried, Rhi! Thank you all for coming out tonight! Please enjoy the buffet, and be sure to tip your servers!
