Piper and Pilfer - the Governor's Office Welcome Corps

Post by Jaycy Ashleana »

(( October 6, 2020 ))

Jaycy had become (by necessity) an early riser; there was just too much to do in the day for her to stay abed too long these days. This morning, however, her pre-sunrise leavetaking had a more genial purpose; she'd intended to find a few new friends that her partner and the city employees might enjoy. She missed Skiddles, the miniature monster that she’d adopted at the conclusion of the Redemption Charity Gala and she missed her children and she missed the exasperatingly amusing antics such creatures could bring. The Office could use some shenanigans and she’d noted on a previous Isle visit that familiars were being offered for the month.

Bella, the Familiar Witch was waiting for her (as if she’d known that the redhead had intended to pay a visit this morning) and presented several of the options with a smile. A pair of voidfox cubs flickered in and out of visibility as they scampered and scrambled in chase of each other while Jaycy and a few others watched. She grinned, peering at the weasels before turning once more to the fox pair. Finally, settling on them, she filled the paperwork and took the carrier that would hopefully serve until they could be taken to the Office.

“Aye, a den even though they’re indoors most of the time. Feed ‘em pretty much anything.” Nodding, she repeated the advice and peered down at the pair of male cubs, discernible by the color variations in their markings (one pinkish red, one blue). “Aye, keep them away from shiny things, dwarves, and spiders.” Jaycy suddenly blinked, surprised out of her parroting. “Spiders? Oh… right. Rhydin. They don’t need more powers.” The two shared a nod even as the redhead snickered. With a grin, she saluted the witch and disappeared in a flash of rainbow light with her new friends.

The collection of four familiars waited with varying degrees of patience (because of course she’d fallen in love with two more and intended on taking them home!) as the redhead bustled about in an empty office near the elevator, turning it into a veritable palace for the duo. Beds, toys, and a contrived den dotted the room once it had been cleared of furniture. She set food and water bowls near the door, quickly filling them before releasing the pair into their new home base, pretending that she didn’t see them blink in and out of the carrier already four times while she’d worked!

With a sigh, she peered at the two. “I’m not sure what to call you both yet. Hopefully, we’ll figure out something soon. C’mon, you two.” Not surprisingly, they didn’t listen and Jaycy shook her head, smiling slightly. Instead, she went through the office and called a “staff meeting” so she could introduce the pair to the rest of the Office denizens. “Arlene, you’re in charge of them.” The young woman blinked at being singled out by the woman and shook her head. “Erm… really? I kill plants.” Jaycy just grinned. “You’ll do fine. They’ll love you. Don’t worry if they disappear, they’re magic.”

Arlene sighed. It was Tommy all over again. She was a bean counter.

With a hum, Jaycy scooped up her other two new friends and disappeared.

A few days later, the pair had gained both names and reputations. The pinkish red scamp had a fondness for those warned shiny things (and, to be honest, all things) and had a habit of secreting all manner of items in his den. The blue one didn’t share the same thieving tendencies but he did seem to be a charmer … when food was around. He’d quickly become both a favorite and dreaded sight in the kitchen at lunchtime.

Jaycy added a placard outside the door to their “room,” which was always left open.
