Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes!

This Thursday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, come down to the Cadentia Bazaar to see who is the Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes!



Space has been cleared out at the Bazaar’s Cultural Center, vendor stalls and the usual evening entertainment of dancers and fighters moved to the sidelines to give a clear field of fire for the brave combatants. A long, gleaming saloon-style bar -- complete with a gleaming rail and spitoons! -- is where the competition’s judge Mallory Maeda will be serving drinks and taking sign-ups for the first hour. Specials on margaritas, whiskey sours, and Moscow Mules -- show off your best gallon, bowler, or other western-style hat and get one of those for free!



At 9:00, Mallory will relocate to the headless statue in the middle of the Cultural Center, where she will oversee the competition to determine the Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes! Everyone who has signed up will be announced in brackets, and Mallory will call two fighters at a time to line up in the mosaic circles to stare each other down. When she says, “DRAW!” it’s up to the fighters to be the first one to point at and “shoot” their target (“bang,” “pew-pew,” and other sound effects are appreciated and encouraged). Single-elimination -- when you’re out, you’re out! But the fun’s not over. The Golden Perch’s own gnomish bartender Hilda will be making a guest appearance to help man the bar while Mallory officiates the fights -- and rumor has it she can be an eager gambler, and will take on just about any bet you give her!



In the end, there can only be one Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes. The top prize is 500 silver nobles and a weekend stay at Cadentia’s luxurious Riad Alhazu. Second through fourth prizes are 100 silver nobles apiece and a midnight camel ride and stargazing tour around the Cadentia oases, with an available detour through the Twilight Isle Portal!

There will be a few minutes between announcing each pair of fighters and when Mallory tells you both to “DRAW!” and I encourage you to take that time to pre-type a SHORT post and be ready to hit send! Just don’t do it before she says “DRAW!” -- a misfire may result in you forfeiting the match! I will do my best to arrange a demonstration “fight” to take place during the first hour of the event -- if you are interested in doing this, please contact me!))

Black and silver were the colors Mallory chose for running the lightning-fast competition in Cadentia. Her boots, long coat, and open vest were all black with silver spurs, buttons, and buckles, with a white shirt worn partly open to show a myriad of colorful tattoos; one silver concho belt was looped around her waist, and another served as the ribbon of her wide-brimmed hat, resting atop her polished and gleaming black horns. She didn't expect troublemakers, but she was ready for them: while she didn't wear a big iron at her hip, who needed one of those when you were packing fingerguns?

Cowgirls and Indians was one thing she had always loved to play when she was younger and one didn't have to imagine that the southern musician wasn't about to not go above and beyond for this little event. Dating a rancher helped too! Brown chaps with white embroidery decorating the side snugged against the dark pants beneath them. A darker brown, long sleeved shirt hung from her shoulders and was hidden away behind a tight fitting vest of brown leather with golden patterns crisscrossing through it. A burgundy scarf bunched above the vest and complimented the gray stetson hat that smothered the mass of mahogany curls. It wasn't just the outfit though that made her stand out. No, it was the pretty white mare she rode in on through the desert. Twelve hands tall if not a few more, the beast was pristine and magnificent, proudly prancing in the direction of the Cultural center and not seeming to mind the hustle and bustle of the occupants. With ease, the musician rode atop that horse and smiled in anticipation of the night's events. Maybe she'd stay mounted on the horse for the tournament as well. She wouldn't need her hands to keep the well trained and tame animal in place thank goodness too as she had to have them ready to prove that she could be the fastest finger guns in the waste!

After speaking with the Bazaar Council, Mallory has confirmed that there will be a gilded trophy for all participants in the tournament, shaped like a six-gun!

Of course, like others Dill was going to be there. Many people and non Mortal beings have been at the end of Dillon’s finger guns. ‘No!’ They cry out, or ‘who are you and what are you doing in my bathroom?!’. Such was his skill with the finger gun. But also he’ll probably lose because he’ll see something shiny and get distracted.

Rhi was fashionably late to the event and opted for something dressy.

Last night, we had eight competitors enter, but only one could win the coveted title of Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes! Competition was close, only a fraction of a second separating the quick from the dead* in each match. And the high tension resulted in two misfires!

In the first round, Eregor gunned down Guy, while Tenrowe managed to outgun Dillon -- after Dillon's daring display with a knife and live ammunition! Rhiannon stepped in at the last minute for musician Reggie, but went down to Mai's gun; and when the courier Coydog stepped into the ring, it was her opponent Suturi who delivered with a hand bazooka!

In the second round, Tenrowe outgunned Eregor to advance with the fury of an invisible minigun; Suturi misfired against opponent Mai, who kept cool under pressure and took her down as soon as I declared "DRAW!"

In the third and final round, it was Tenrowe and Mai who faced off for the coveted title, and after a tense misfire from Tenrowe, he prevailed on the word "DRAW!" Well fought, everyone, and a hearty well won to our Fastest Fingergun in the Wastes. You should all be getting your trophies in the mail in the near future!

* Miraculously, no one actually perished in an eight-person all-out (finger)gun duel.
